He is very capable of becoming a Cirelli. As I said before, Cirelli’s best season is 44 points, very achievable for Peyton. His strong defensive game is what his coach uses to match up with others while still being a scoring threat. He also gets some PP time.

That lineup would be awesome. I haven’t done the cap math here, hoping it could work with Power and Dahlin extensions. I don’t know if KA would go after Wilson and Compher if he keeps KO around. I can see one of those guys picked up. Someone like Graves, hopefully him is a necessity in my opinion. If he does this to the goaltending then we know he is serious. It’s a competitive business and Comrie/UPL have dropped down the pecking order. I hope one of them remains in Rochester.

Spot on with keeping Mitts. I think they can get a 4D in UFA and then use VO + for an upgrade. The upgrade can be gritty 2 way forward, 5-6D or a veteran G. There will be opportunities as well to take advantage of cap strapped teams who want a shiny new UFA or just sign their RFAs. I’m thinking a Nick Leddy move from the Isles a few years ago or Pacioretty + just to take his salary.

That is a line I can see having a lot of success. Cozens’ speed on zone entries and forechecks, Quinn’s elusiveness and shot and Mitts setting the table with board work and slick feeds.

It’s not like our expectations are outrageous. I think we all realistically think this team can make it and even compete with a few roster tweaks. These guys have been around the NHL long enough to know they are on an upward trajectory and this is the logical next step.

This takes some of the pain of being a Sabres fan away for awhile. My favourite part is when he rips Tavares’ quote that they need to learn from that game. Dangle says learn, you should have a frikkin’ PHD by now.

We all hope for a Briere, Barzal or Point but he could end up like Erod.

Not sure about Matt Murray’s status but I can see Keefe trying him if Samsonov blows another one. The way Perry and the boys crash the net, Murray will break by the second period. UPL could beat VGK with this amount of shots.

I am not ready to give Mitts a 6-7 year deal but his versatility is valuable. Maybe he ends up on the third line but with PP time, sliding up the lineup when the bench is shortened and filling in the top 6 for injuries he could end up with more minutes than some top 6 guys. I want to see a team with 3 scoring lines so he is important to make that happen. I think a 4D can be found in UFA (Graves, Dumba) as well as a VO+ trade.

Bergeron and Marchand were underpaid for their careers but they wanted to be there and wanted the team to afford more players.

I know careers are short but Tavares, Matthews and Marner all making around $11M limits them so much. They are among the top paid in the league, on one team. You would pyjama boy would play in Toronto for free the way he fought back tears when signing. Matthews is all about the money, I doubt he has any loyalty to Toronto. Marner didn’t want to make less than those two after leading the team in scoring for a few years. Nylander holding out half a season is out of his Dad’s playbook. Back to your point on TNT and Cozens, the team was smart to lock them up early and the players didn’t try to bleed the team for every last penny.

I think VO and a draft pick can procure a 4D. Casey has way more value to Buffalo going forward.

Sabres are building a more balanced lineup. Dahlin and Power are better than any Leaf’s D. Leafs have tried many different guys in net, never able to find or grow their own true #1. Spending most of their cap on 4 forwards limits their depth and rounding out the lineup. Being Toronto their big 4 took all the money they could get, not taking a bit of a discount to have a better team.
