  1. Oh my! No self respecting Quebecois would EVER cheer for Toronto my friend! Ils sont terribles!! Really though. Cross the border at Constable,NY into Trout River, Quebec. You will see hardcore Quebecois. They are very proud!
  2. There is only one who has raised the colere of the Norde. Needlessly at that. This Norde prefers the old quebecois tradition of consommation d'alcool to anything else really.
  3. I usually really enjoy GDT...then there is the snark.....for the first time EVER I may evoke my right to "ignore"....
  4. I have a wonderful Polish mother-in-law. Xmas eve dinner is our big Polish meal. Sausages, homemade ######, handmade pierogi, borscht, and whatever they call that smashed up pea dish...and butter drizzled over everything :P. Very delicious. Very deadly. wow. My abbreviation for sauerkraut is censored! Didn't realize that was offensive!
  5. My wife's fav player. She's bummed. I liked him too but those fry pan hands! I won't miss the drops.

The AHL and NHL are far closer to each other in talent level than you are giving the league credit for. You should really watch some AHL hockey. Sabres beat Vancouver with a AHL heavy squad. Guys like Varrone and Dalpe put on as good a show as Mitchell/Flynn. It's easy to look down at a league that you don't follow but truth is there are lots of AHL guys playing in the NHL every game. Grigerinko will play at the NHL level one day. The kids only 20. Watch him play for the Amerks before you judge. I'll put this whole Nolan thing aside. Grigs is good/humble kid that will do good things for some NHL squad one day. You'll see. I would, in all sincerity, give you my two season tickets to any one Amerks game if you would want to go. Just to see for yourself.

Only way to tell for sure is watch the stats next year. I'm guessing Michtell and Flynn have the same or lower numbers. Myers and the talent gang improve. If Nolan is still here grinders will seem like heroes as they put up numbers similar to talent. That's only because Nolan botches talent! Give guys like Hogdson and Grigs a coach who coaches talent and they will flourish too. You can see that with Grigs now. Watch some ahl hockey. He is above most of the talent he plays against(and with). I built my own backyard rink one bucket at a time just like Nolan did. I've loved and played hockey for 42 years. I've played a loooooot of hockey. I'm smart enough to know that head down grinding isn't the only way to play the game. Talent SHOULD be rewarded. Grinders do realize what they are and feel guilty when they get more toi than that other guy they know shines like a star. It affects the locker room and moral. For everyone. Could you blame Grig for a lack of effort when you aren't allowed to make plays that you see develop that your coach is too blind to see? "Head down and grind? But I just say a beautiful chance to get one in the net!" Hockey is x and o. Nolan is not.

Grigs has loads of effort in rochester(and any roads game for that matter). Very good rookie numbers at the ahl level. Yet one game with Nolan and he is a slacker? C'mon. there's trying to enlighten people and there is just trying to win a disagreement.

How can Nolan possibly determine what Grigorenko can do based his limited exposure? Apples vs. steaks?

Nail meet Head. That's the point I feel people are trying to make. Mitchell ONLY scored 78/1000 more ppg with 2:35 more toi WHILE playing on higher lines with better talent and getting more pp time than Hogdson.

I'm sorry. I need to point out that Mitchell and Flynn went to the more talented team. Shouldn't their numbers improve being surrounded with more talent? I feel it's more of an indication that Nolan didn't use the talent correctly while Flynn and Mitchel are what they always are. Head down grinders that Nolan loved.(I'm certain he still loves them)

I should have pointed out that those numbers are from this year. My objective is not to prove Hogdson's worth. I intended to illustrate that Nolan doesn't appear to have a clue what he is doing. Agree or disagree. Numbers don't lie. Myers', Stafford's and Stewart's(talent guys) numbers have all improved post trade. Mitchell's and Flynn's(skate hard grinders) have not.

Hogdson scored at a rate of roughly .177 ppg with 12;59 toi Mitchell scored at a rate of .255 ppg with 15;20 toi Mitchell scored 78/1000 more ppg with 2;35 more toi per game. Projected over 82 games Mitchell would have 6.4 more points than Hogdson with 211 more minutes played. I know Nolan isn't an x and o type of coach but.....cmon.

I'm sorry. I'd like to know your source that is noting his lack of effort for the Amerks? Where they there when he started a fight to stick up for a team mate? Or the night he received the Ahl player of the week award? Or his hustle to the bench after every shift? Just curious. I consider myself an astute and knowledgeable fellow and I can't remember seeing him lack for anything other than a decent linemate and competent coach in the 26 or so home games I've seen so far.
  15. You do need that air movement to stress the stems so they don't fall over as they develop. Remember, though, that seedling is living strictly from stored energy. That is what drives stem elongation until the cotyledons(preliminary "dumbo" leaves) fully develop. Photosynthesis in those leaves mainly works to develop that bud of regular foliage that starts in between the cotyledons. Once those preliminary leaves fall off and the growing bud is developed you can feel at ease that the seedling has started full scale photosynthesis. You need to be careful with temps until then. Excessive heat during sprouting cause that stored energy to be used up more quickly(results in spindly seedlings). You really only need a small amount of light until those cotyledons drop. Mimic nature. The spring soil temps. Intensity of light(compared to mid summer). I usually sprout seeds in potting soil(phosphorus is required for proper root development) under enough light to maintain temps. Once I see permanent growth I crank up the lumens. Sounds like you are doing things the way you should. Keep experimenting. Think like a seed! It's the right time of the year to get stared. I start in a few weeks but I put in a big spread and I need to wait until a tractor can be driven in the fields. Just a small farmall with a plow and cultivator. 1 1/2 - 2 acres. I plan to get everything in by june. It's just too wet before hand. Ultimately you want to time it out for your location. I've seen July gardens do as well as early June gardens. If you started early and you can't get them in the ground you can water with a dilute nutrient solution for a while. A well developed root system(as opposed to a nice looking plant) is want you want to put in. Too much plant without the root system to support it will result in a wilted and stunted transplant. You will work your nards off but it will be worth it!
  16. Peppercorn is not tolerant of low temps. I believe zone10-11 are its limits. It can be done indoors with a move to the patio for some extra light. No temps below 60 degrees and I believe it does best with soil temps at a steady 75-80 degrees which is very hard to do in a pot. A good grow light and an insulated environment like the one weave describes could work well. I hope to have replaced my temporary indoor garden with the permament equipment I have in storage.(been finishing the new house). My second favorite hobby is pickling. Especially homegrown and wild foraged. Homegrown peppercorn would put the garlic/pepper/fresh egg recipe over the top. A nice robust porter homebrew washes it all down nicely! Hot Damn!!! I'm excited for summer! Keep us posted if you give it a go.
  17. One of favorite hobbies!! The increase in lumins/sq in is the first step to eliminating spindly seedlings. If you are adding lights and containing them in the mylar and foam you sould add a thermometer and monitor temps. Don't let it get any warmer than 70 degrees in your growbox. I keep mine at 65 if I can. I usually keep the seedling in the cool basement until the stems and roots have developed. I then move them upstairs to increase lumins even more. By then they are looking for warmer temps anyways. Good luck!!! Nice selection of heat by the way. I managed to keep a couple ghost plants alive throughout summer but only got a couple peppers. That's all I really needed:) Guess I should add that without a decrease in temp that the extra lighting and insulation causes you will still get spindly stems. They will just grow faster and eventually fall over and be prone to rot.

Grigs is certainly going to be a fine nhl player one day. There is nothing wrong with his defense, or battle in the corners, or his compete level. I've watched him enough at the Blue Cross Arena(die-hard at every game). Stats don't always tell the whole story. Grigs has talent. He needs to have talent on his wings to thrive IMO. We haven't had the opportunity to see many players like Grigs in Rochester lately. Too many times I've seen him win the battle in the corner and fight his way toward the crease only to see his dandy of a pass get bobbled by one of the gringers Cassidy has to pair him with. Start of the season the Grig, Armia, Carrier line was hot. Its amusing for me to think that some folks have lost interest based on a few NHL games. Look at his wingers in those games. Give him some extended time with an upgrade at talent on his wings. Or trade him. Either way the kid is a humble/hard worker(take every chance I get to meet these kids) who is going to be a productive part of an NHL team. I hope it's ours.
  19. Well he has another half season to improve i hope. I sure hope you're right man. He did have an assist last night. He also had several turn overs. A couple at the blueline and a real nasty one in the corner. Turned it over right in front of the net for a good scoring chance. The fans are starting to turn on him. I heard a few regulars calling for his head last night. It's as good a time as any for him to start getting it together. Good. They may as well play in Rochester and leave the tire fire in Buffalo until next year. If anyone needs to go back to Elmira to make room, I'd rather see Kea go. Tassone played very well last night. Lots of hustle and some good hits. He even had a few scoring chances. Brady Austin continues to impress me. Big kid that's not afraid to use his size. One of those little Monster ran Makarov last night and Austin stepped in to fight the guy. Not a great fight because said Monster was trying his best to tie him up and not take it in the face. Austin took the extra two for roughing as he punched the guy in the face as he went to the ice. I was more than happy to take the extra two minutes just to show the opposition that running out goaltender is a big NO NO! Hall of fame night this evening and the wife is driving. Beer Beer Beer. Go Amerks!
  20. Well, to spoof Tom Cullens..."G O O N...That spells Matt Pelech." I do agree that this team is in need of some toughness. They let themselves get pushed around too much but I am not in favor of using a roster spot for a guy with his stats. I'd much rather have a tough guy that is actually good at the hockey as well. The John Scott types don't have a place in either league IMO. Guys like Deslauriers and Kaleta are the type of guys that I prefer to watch play(over a pure goon that is). GMTM, please keep trying though. I like seeing progressive managing. PTOs are our friend at this point in the season. Once again, IMO. Go Amerks!
  21. Amerks with a nice 3-0 win over the Wild. Good work against a sharp looking Iowa team. Makarov with a well deserved shutout. McCabe was a healthy scratch. Brodie Reid has been a beast since day one. He had another goal tonight. That's 3 in 3 games. He is everywhere he should be. Sets up camp in front of the net and isn't easily moved for a guy that's listed at 195 lbs. I'd keep an eye on this guy. I think he would be an upgrade over Flynn.(And I really like Flynn) Shift changes were better. Leduc looks decent when he is paired with Pysyk. As always Schaller was solid. A no-brainer call up IMO. New guy Pelech doesn't seem to have a long run here. Not much to see there. There seems to be a rotating door at back up goaltender with Luwein injured, Fullerton released, Nagle on a PTO and Hackett a healthy scratch. Seems GMTM isn't afraid to pull the trigger. I like it. More wins please.
  22. Yesterday's game was one of the better recent games. They started strong in the first but had a rough time the remainder of the period. They came out hard the next two thankfully. Crunch had a lot of PP but that was more a result of poor officiating than poor play. I thought the first time we played Utica was the worst job I'd ever seen by a ref(I think there was only one that game) but yesterday was insane. D'Amigo got a 5 min major for fighting after he was jumped from behind having his helmet ripped off, dragged slew foot style to the ice and his head split wide open. Schaller was called for a crosscheck in a situation where he never even touched the guy. Blatant. Obvious. The Crunch took one interference call I think but they were holding everywhere on the ice. I saw one in particular where Schaller had an arm wrapped completely around his neck in the corner going for the puck. I don't want to whine too much about the officials but it was really ridiculous. The justice, though, came in the way of a shorty for the Amerks. Our PK was fantastic all day. We nearly had more than one shorty. I agree with Ink's assessment of Ried. From what I've seen in his two games, this guy is a keeper. Good forechecking and a badger-like persistence led to his unassisted goal. The thing I am most impressed by... he can play with anyone it seems. No chemistry necessary. Rudy was the best man on the ice. He has a great shot from the point and usually always has his man tied up. Makarov was once again a force out there. He made some impressive glove saves. I know there are a lot of folks looking forward to McCabe playing for the Sabres. Not me! He turned it over in his own zone twice on the same PK! His passing needs too much work for my liking and he still has that lazy glide to the bench for the change. Why leave your team a man down while you saunter over to bench? You do realize your relief can't take the ice until your in the vicinty of the bench, right? Somehow he is out there for PP and PK though.(Deepening my dislike of Cassidy) The best part of the whole game was the absence of the guy who sits in front of me. You probably know the guy. Yep. The one who screams "shoot it" no matter what scenario or where possession is. I agree that one of the faults of this team is their reluctance at times to take the shot. They do not, however, need to shoot willy nilly. I still have faith in the talent level of this team. I still stick by my opinion that Cassidy needs to go. There are a lot of good plays made. Just in need of someone to clean up the sloppy stuff that gets them into trouble. I wasn't a huge fan of Ron but he took care of the slop. Please GMTM, find us a real coach. I want another Calder. We deserve it! This is all opinion though. Seen through somewhat beery eyes.
  23. The Amerks problems can't be pinned on any one thing really.I go to every game. I may miss a Wednesday here and there. I feel the time is ripe to replace Cassidy. There is too much talent on this team. Seems he plays guys that are struggling when he has other options. Jake McCabe is my biggest gripe. His passing is terrible. Constantly misreading plays and turning the puck over.He had a goal last friday but coughed up at least five times. I was really hoping for better out of him. The thing that irks me the most is that Vanek-like coast to the bench for the change. For God's sake! Hustle!!! You're getting paid for this! I don't care that you're bummed you're not in Buffalo. You don't even play like you belong in Rochester! Armia runs around like he has two heads. Finishes every check and runs his ass off to make the change. Thumbs up as well for Brady Austin. He works as hard as Armia. Grigs gets thumbs up from me as well. He has great vision out there. Like I've said...Cassidy doesn't use them right. My final stand out is Luwein and not in a good way. I took my father in law to sit in my wife's seat and the score was 3-0 before he even made a single save! He makes little old ladies I've seen sit there quietly for years shout out loud. GMTM needs to find an upgrade behind the bench.
  24. This would be a fantastic road to take this story down...it fits right in with the rumor that the movie starts with the discovery of Luke's hand(assuming the mechanical one) and lightsaber, spawning a search for him.... somewhat following the expanded universe's story line where Luke temporarily falls into darkness. Your vision where his downfall stems from his failure to successfully revive the Jedi religion is superb though. You can see the signs of instability in Luke's character throughout the original trilogy. I am hoping for a far darker show this time around.
