  1. 8 for Shattenkirk and the Blues first (we can add a middle piece to that). Bogo, Girgensons (or Foligbo) and a 2nd for Eberle.
  2. An odd thing to report, but James Mirtle says: Hearing there will likely be at least one trade today. Some of the latest NHL rumours: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/trade-rumours-fly-as-the-busiest-stretch-of-the-nhl-off-season-begins/article30517289/http://twitter.com/mirtle/status/744890080863543296/photo/1 Says the Rangers are the most active team. Stepan could fit Arizona which would allow New York to get into the Stamkos chase. Says Boston and Buffalo are teams after Shattenkirk. Mentions Bogo could be dealt.
  3. All the home openers will be announced today at noon. The full schedule comes out tomorrow. So we'll know at least one game today but possibly a few others if we're a part of other teams' openers. Sabres open at home against Montreal on Thursday October 13th.
  4. No and no. Based on the rumors around Eberle and who they might be targeting using him I don't think the cost would be this anyways. Pysyk, Girgensons, Bogo, 2nd rounders, MAYBE next year's first (top ten protected?), Ennis and a few others are all the pieces we could dangle here. I think Eberle is worth more than they'll get for him if they trade him. I would definitely do a Pysyk, Girgensons and a 2nd. Or Bogo and Girgensons.
  5. That was incredible television. There certainly was a moment where I found myself gasping for breath as they shot the scene I'm talking about perfectly. Made the viewer feel in the moment.
  6. I don't think that makes it a "great" championship. Improbable, yes, but the odds aren't all that defines a great championship. It also hurt that their championship game was one of the worst all-around display of basketball I've ever seen on a big stage. Basketball is going to have a hard time topping this year with the way the Cavs won and the greatest basketball game I've ever watched in the championship game between Nova and UNC. The Love situation will be interesting. The team has earned a mulligan on whatever they decide to do with him. There's rumors the Celtics have interest in him, and they possess the third overall pick. If I'm Cleveland I would do that deal straight up in a heart beat because a young player could be a great infusion into that team. Especially if you can get somebody like Buddy Hield or Kris Dunn, two players similar to Dwyane Wade - elite defenders who can score.
  7. I give Eberle a ton of credit for putting up 25 goals in 60-some games this year after the start he had. He had the injury and so many people were down on him and he's been a bit of a forgotten man out there after the continued addition of elite forward talent. I think I'd rather be paying Eberle $6 million than Stamkos $10+ million. This is the guy I want on Eichel's wing. I want Eich's other wing to be homegrown.
  8. I think he's a great fit. I don't think his defensive game is as bad as advertised, either (his shot suppression is that of a high-end third liner). I think Eberle and a defensively-sound winger on the other side would be an awesome combo.
  9. Is Eberle known to have attitude problems? Also, $6 mill per for three more years is a pretty good deal, IMO.
  10. That was the most incredible championship in any sport I've been alive for. Incredible. LeBron with the greatest championship (entire series) performance I've ever seen. He led both teams in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. Incredible. 52-year drought ends on a three-game winning streak. No team has EVER won the NBA Finals when being down 3-1 (Cleveland was only the third team to force a game seven in that scenario). Steve Kerr, in two amazing seasons, had never lost three straight as an NBA coach. Golden State only lost consecutive games twice this season (against OKC in the conference finals and here in the finals). They hadn't lost three straight all season. They also had to do it by beating the best team (by record) in NBA history three consecutive times.
  11. I wonder if there's some momentum building for basketball to become America's sport. They don't have the injury issues other sports have and also don't have the drug issues. They promote offense, too. Very entertaining and player driven.
  12. JR Smith, after hitting two huge threes, may have just ended the game for Cleveland. What a stupid play. Horribly predictable.
  13. The big difference is that the way the NHL calls games prevents offense while the way the NBA calls games promotes it. The NBA has the right formula.
  14. Looking at his possession numbers Eberle is actually better than I expected. His linemates also benefit quick a bit when playing with him. I would love to pick him up, but I don't know that Pysyk or Bogo as a centerpiece would be enough.
  15. Welp... There's always next year Cleveland.
  16. I absolutely have interest in Hall and Eberle, but I'm not giving them Risto for them.
  17. Steph is missing open shots but Draymond is picking up for him. Cleveland needs to stop treating Draymond like he can't hit these shots. Good game so far.
  18. http://www.csnne.com/NHL-rumor-Boston-Bruins-Dmitry-Kulikov-Florida-Panthers Boston has been talking to Florida about Kulikov. Other reports say Florida is also looking to extend him and that trade talk is because teams are calling them and not the other way around.
  19. http://edmontonjournal.com/sports/hockey/nhl/hockey-world-edmonton-oilers-almost-never-trade-their-first-round-draft-pick Oilers are divided between Tkachuk and Dubois if they stay at 4.
  20. But, on the "NHLExpertPicks" subject, it looks like they were just stealing content from Bruce Garrioch. He mentioned in an article that the Bruins, Oilers and Sabres have talked to St. Louis. Garrioch said Murray is being "aggressive" in looking for blueline help. http://www.ottawasun.com/2016/06/18/calgary-flames-eye-move-into-top-three-or-four-at-nhl-draft Other rumors in there: Flames trying to move up for Puljujarvi or Tkachuk Blue Jackets listening on Foligno, trying to move Tyutin and Hartnell Panthers could be looking to move Nick Bjugstad and/or Dmitry Kulikov (lefty) Rangers listening to offers on Stepan Unlikely Eric Staal heads back to Carolina Blues prefer to extend Shattenkirk Teams are showing interest in Matt Dumba I know Garrioch isn't well liked (by me or other board members), but these are all interesting to think about. And there's no doubt the guy has some type of connections.
  21. No, not legitimate. Look for: 1. Blue checkmark. If it's a verified account it means it's a verified individual who has a legitimate reason to distinguish their account. Doesn't automatically mean their Tweets are gospel, but it's a good sign. 2. An actual name of either an individual or association with a team or news organization. If it's just a generic "NHL rumors" or "MLB daily" account then it's probably just a rumor-mongering account. 3. Look at the information itself. Is it a ridiculous assertion? Probably fake. Is it really basic info that any random person could just say? Another sign it's one of those "throw at the wall and hope it sticks" accounts. I don't mind the posting of this stuff as long as it's clarified that the source isn't legitimate and it's just being posted for the sake of discussion. I'd probably make this move, but it's not my most preferred use of Pysyk as an asset. I would rather have Stamkos than Yandle almost regardless of cost. I also saw one reporter, Joe Yerdon I think?, mention that he doesn't think we'll pursue Yandle. He doesn't believe Yandle is the type Murray would want to pair with Risto.
  22. I was fully confident that Bogo does not have and will not have a no-movement clause, but I'm now just as confused. I understand Murray, apparently, went on WGR and said none of his players have no-movement clauses, but it sounds like his NMC hasn't kicked in yet anyways (if it exists). So this quote can be true and Bogo and also have a NMC that will activate later. On why an acquiring team would honor a NMC - I have no idea unless Bogo had a no-trade or no-movement clause at the time of the trade and only agreed to waive it if the Sabres would honor the terms of his contract. I hope his NMC is irrelevant, anyways. I like Bogo. I want him to stick around. I won't cry if we acquire a guy like Shattenkirk, Lindholm or others and move him due to excess, but I wouldn't move him unless this is the case.
  23. The draft strategy has definitely changed since Tim Murray came in. He considers himself the head scout. He is a rink rat. He is the one making the decisions.
  24. Tim Murray was only part of the 2014 and 2015 draft.
  25. Continuing on this: "Since we're giving up $15 or $16 million in dead cap dollars next season, we are going to give the kids a chance to make the team." Sounds like Holland is pretty sold on the fact that they can't move the contract. I can't imagine there's more than two or three teams in the league that would even consider it, and if I'm those teams I don't accept anything except a first or Anthony Mantha for the contract. Holland said it's "a hard no" if teams demand Mantha or a top prospect for Datsyuk. Ken Holland also said Pavel informed him about a week into the three-year contract that he would only be playing two years of it.
