This is such bullcrap the NHL allows it to happen. The player should be forced to sign with the team that drafted him once they turn pro or have to sit out a year as a penalty. As it is now there is no penalty only a reward for players to do this,so why wouldn't they? I mean this basically allows the players to gain a benefit of being a free agent and going wherever they want if they decide to stay in college long enough. How is that benefitting the NHL? It's a clear circumvention of the intent of the rule and it needs to be fixed. Change that has the rights of an NHL player for 30 days once they leave college to one year once they leave college and you'll fix this bullcrap.

The rule should be you play for the team that drafted you unless they waive their rights to you and then you become a free agent. Not seeing why these kids can just go to school and wait it out and become a FA afterwards. No idea why it's not like that to begin with, this rule makes pretty much zero sense.

It's impossible to say...different styles, different eras...what rules are we playing by? Like in basketball...does the 72 win Bulls team beat this year's Warriors team? Well how can you say for sure? Different era, different rules..are we allowing hand checking like they did back then? The extremely physical play that occurred back then? What rules are we playing by?...likely Warriors would win under today's rules and Bulls would win under their rules...the teams are built to compete and win under the rules they are playing by at the time...
