  1. You wouldn't be letting them down. In most cases they let themselves down. Does nobody take responsibility for their lives anymore or does everyone just make one giant excuse after another as to why they are in the situation they are in? I mean I get the noble effort thing but honestly maybe what they need is to get a kick in the ass to make them re-assess things.
  2. It doesn't have anything to do with whether I agree with them or not. People always have options no matter what the situation is.
  3. Depends on what the degree is in. Hint hint...computer science would probably be a good field to get into...just saying.
  4. Sure they do. Online classes and government grants to go back to school are a real thing. In some cases depending on where they enroll, they might even get PAID to go back to school while getting a degree.
  5. Really? Because I changed careers at age 40, which people laughed at me for and told me nobody was ever going to hire a first time developer with no CS degree at that time, then after proving that wrong I worked fulltime and went to school fulltime for 2.5 years, becoming a software engineer and 4 years later I'm being paid 6 figures in Buffalo and basically more than doubled what I was making prior to that. Where "wages are lagging way behind the nation". So don't feed me that bullcrap, I'm not hearing it. People are great at making excuses for why they are where they are but not so good at doing something about it.
  6. Maybe its time they do something for themselves for a change. Taking this time to properly assess their situation and then take an ACTIVE role in changing it for themselves like enrolling in colleges using government grants to get a degree that will pay them something more than part time minimum wage would be a good start... Is it really humanity, or is it like giving out participation trophies to avoid having the real, hard, truthful conversations nobody wants to have?
  7. Honestly, if you are expecting to make ends meet by relying on part time jobs like this, you probably should be re-evaluating your life choices during this time and making better ones moving forward. Just saying. It's not like they won't be getting paid for the games when the season resumes. In effect, these people are expecting to be paid twice? Must be a nice gig if you can get it. Wish my boss would pay me twice for pushing up code every day...
  8. Corona?
  9. That I agree with...what happens in districts if parents start refusing to let their kids go to school? Are they going to fail them? If enough parents refuse it will force their hands.
  10. A National Emergency is getting ready to be called as of a 3PM Press Conference by President Trump to invoke the Stafford Act... On a side note...if he really is trying to turn the US into a dictatorship, as some have speculated, now would be the time he would strike...
  11. Hearing it will be through the original end of spring break, whenever that is...
  12. I'm excited because at least I found out today how to set up separate desktops on my machine so I will be able to have both work screens on separate monitors since I need to use RDC to get into my work computer through the VPN and then RDC again from it to get into my Dev Box on the server. Hated working from home with that setup previously because I could only use one monitor for work, but now will be able to work more efficiently...
  13. Have a co-worker that knows someone at a governmental level who tipped him off that there will be an announcement coming today after school that all NYS schools will be closing until further notice for a minimum of 2 weeks... Told him it had been decided last night but will not be announced until after classes today... Take it for what it is worth...just passing along what I heard
  14. No, he took his girlfriend
  15. Umm...he would be included in the high risk group already since he is over 60
  16. What is interesting is to see what happens if the season gets suspended and then resumes at a later date...it will likely alter the outcomes for some teams...and probably change who wins the Cup. Players who are injured now can get better and come back to play. Teams on a hot streak or cold streak will basically reset back to equilibrium and it will be the teams that can come together the fastest in a short end of the season push and playoffs that will do the best and it may not be the teams who are the best right now.
  17. With all the free food hanging out on the cabinets that people bring in? Hell No! ? Wouldn't it be more important to give it to the people most at risk or do their lives just not count?
  18. Great excuse to have long marathon sex sessions... As a software engineer, I sadly can't get excited about being told to stay home either because they would just tell me to login through the VPN and work remotely...
  19. I had the pleasure of delivering something to Jiri Nvotny's townhouse, where Ales Kotalik and Thomas Vanek just happened to be hanging out. Nvotny was super nice and very talkative with us and Vanek was prety cool too, but Kotalik was an absolute D-Bag. Nvotny's girlfriend was there as well and OMG...she was stunning...from the Czech republic and just drop dead gorgeous. Anyway, the point of the story is that we asked how Connolly was doing and Nvotny said he was feeling better(he was out with his long concussion at the time) and that he was one of the most skilled players he has ever seen and did stuff in practice that was just unbelievable. Vanek seconded that and said he was the most skilled player on the team...saying a lot considering that was the President's Trophy winning year for them.... Then Novotny asked if the guy I was delivering stuff with had ever been to a game and he said he hadn't...so he took his number down and told him he would leave tickets for him one day. We both thought he was being nice and didn't really mean it...lo and behold 2 weeks later, the guy received a call from Nvotny and he let him know he left 2 tickets to the next game for him at Will Call for him to pickup...I thought that was super cool of him...
  20. The Sambucol extract is what has been tested in studies but its likely elderberries would also work, just might need to eat/drink more of it because its not as concentrated
  21. From what I understood Americans are able to come back, just not Europeans trying to come here.
  22. Its possible it COULD prevent you from getting it, but that would mean you would have to take it religiously every day and that would get expensive...far easier to start taking it at the first sign of symptoms.
  23. The flu tests suck, btw. They take this giant Q-Tip and shove it up your nose...and it does NOT feel good...but the results come back in like 10 minutes.
  24. Definitely going to stock up on Sambucol Elderberry extract...numerous scientific studies and tons of evidence from people who use it have shown that it prevents viruses from being able to enter cells and replicate by blocking the receptors the virus needs to target on human cells to gain entry. It has shown to be effective against a wide variety of viruses, so there is a good chance it would be effective with COVID-19 as well. Might not be enough to prevent someone from getting sick but a good chance it could really reduce the impact and lessen the recovery time and severity. IMHO, the elderly and other people who are at higher risk of death should have supplies of this on deck ready to go. Its like the Karate Kid....if a virus cannot enter the cell, it cannot replicate. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3056848/ https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325055 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/04/190423133644.htm http://www.sci-news.com/medicine/elderberries-influenza-virus-07145.html https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15080016 2 Studies directly pitting Elderberry vs. Tamiflu in flu patients -- Elderberry wins: https://theherbaltoad.com/blog/elderberry-vs-tamiflu/ Cocktail of Elderberry, Green Tea and Cinnamon extracts shown to be effective against HIV: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19641233 Elderberry MetaAnalysis study shown to substantially reduce Upper Respiratory symptoms(COVID-19 is an upper Respiratory disease) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30670267 Long research article citing numerous studies and talking about the effectiveness of elderberry in each(very effective against flu, bacterial infections and gingivitis): https://www.researchgate.net/publication/259696401_An_Evidence-Based_Systematic_Review_of_Elderberry_and_Elderflower_Sambucus_nigra_by_the_Natural_Standard_Research_Collaboration
  25. Yes, exactly my point. They are using a death rate calculation where the denominator is much lower than what it should be, thereby greatly inflating the numbers floated out there. And why is there no concern about a REALLY deadly Lassa Virus outbreak in Nigeria right now that actually IS killing up to 25% of infected people?
