  1. For me, it's two things. 1) I think there's been a market failure with QB contracts because of the emphasis on the position. I don't think the average tier brings the value to the team of the cap hit relative to what a replacement can bring. QBs are so important and the bad ones so bad, that teams are willing to overpay for the average ones. Tyrod's contract is market value, I just think the market is hopelessly borked. 2) The fact it's a 2-3 year commitment (three if you think $10 million in dead cap is onerous). Tyrod's play dipped this season. Was it the injuries, did he play above his talent last year, or did the league catch up to him? I'm not sure, but I'm pretty confident I don't want to commit to several years if there's a real chance it's B or C.
  2. Correct. But I've seen that several times, and it's also not on Netflix.
  3. After the 1st period, when (I can't remember if it was Ray or May, but it doesn't matter) quoted Dave Barr as saying the 1st period went well because they did exactly what they wanted: got pucks deep and forced Boston's defense to chase...I almost lost my mind in the GDT, but refrained because we were winning. I should have gone on my rant.
  4. Nah. Still, there's a lot to like even if there is still too much dead weight and a buffoon for a coach.
  5. If I wake up tomorrow to Bylsma being fired, I'll immediately begin to re-evaluate my spirituality.
  6. Honestly, I'm not sure the team deserves paragraphs.
  7. On the Leafs: they have as much dead weight on their roster as we do. Hyman, Komarov, Martin, Hunwick, Marincin, etc? The difference is they're winning games and chasing a playoff position, while we talk about games we could win and muse about possibly getting into position to chase a playoff position. Oh, and they're fun, have a positive goal differential, and are in the top half of the league in possession.
  8. I, too, am against the boycott of the enter key :p
  9. I don't even have a comeback for this beyond "at least we have Jack."
  10. 1) I'm agitated, so sorry for being a bit snarky. 2) I don't question that he played top pair, but rather that he's anything more than their version of Gorges (okay, that's overly harsh, but a good team's version of Gorges is certainly better than a bad team's version). 3) I don't think he's better than Kulikov, but there's no doubt he'd be a quantum leap over Gorges on our 3rd pair and having him on the roster would be an upgrade...of course, with Bylsma, he'd probably be riding the pine while Gorges got to play with Risto, so YMMV
  11. Hot take alert: The Buffalo Bills are closer to being a playoff team than the Buffalo Sabres. Defend that, Bylsma lovers!!!!! :nana:
  12. So that was Brian Gionta's bat signal to Tim Murray? I like the way you think!
  13. It's really close for me. At forward, I think it's pretty clear Matthews is currently better than Eichel, but I'd take O'Reilly over anyone else they have to offer, and I also think Okposo is clearly better than JVR as the veteran scoring winger. It'll really come down to Marner/Nylander vs Reinhart/Nylander, with the former right now being better than the latter, but who knows long term. On the blue line I'd rank Risto > Rielly > Gardiner > McCabe >nobodycaresthey'repoopy. Goaltending seems a wash to me. All that said, I'd love to see what our forwards could do (particularly Jack & Samson) with a coach that plays an offensive system.
  14. This is the message board equivalent of "I know you are but what am I?"
  15. Pointing to his +/- and hits totals as evidence of him being a genuine top pairing defensman particularly killed me.
  16. They were basically like the Rangers this year. Not identical, but a similar build and approach.
  17. Unless Fasching turns into a consistent 40ish point player, it's a bad trade because even if McNabb-Fasching is a wash, then two 2nds for Deslauriers portion is disastrous. It's the romanticizing what McNabb is that's killing me.
  18. Captain America: Civil War, is on Netflix. Awesome.
  19. He's an utterly average player. His GF% drops nearly 10 full percentage points away from Doughty, to under 50%.
  20. Putting Gorges into situations he's blatantly incapable of handling, leading to Gorges taking a bad penalty? Yup, that actually is on Dan.
  21. It was a good first period. We got curb stomped afterwards.
  22. Ah. But he was brought into the organization long before the Pegulas were owners.
  23. We absolutely have the talent to compete with Boston.
  24. I meant in general, not this season :)
