I actually think that Bailey profiles as a modern 4th liner, to borrow Flagg's phrasing, his head and hands don't catch up to his feet. He'd need to play with better mates defensively, but he can wreak some level of havoc with his speed, even if the puck isn't going into the net much.

Because a few of us think he's clearly better than the guy who would have been the worst forward on the team if we didn't also ice Nic Deslauriers? Ennis was worse than Matt Moulson by a considerable amount.

I don't think Pacino or De Niro are in the running, to be honest. They're tremendous in certain roles, but I think their range is lacking. Or maybe I'm just putting too much weight on their work after they got older and stopped caring.

You're signing up for expensive disappointment. Edit: Hagelin was shooting under 5% with the Ducks in half the season. That jumped to over 10% with the Pens, before dipping back under 5% this season. Don't really think there's death or revival there, just some seemingly random variation. Kevin Sylvester tweeted that out. Not sure if that's better or worse than not remembering where you saw it :lol:

Do you really think this works? Jones got $3Mx3 after a whopping 34 starts in which his numbers were worse than Lehner's. Darling just got $4.15x4 for numbers about the same as Lehner's, but with only half the starts and never a year above 35 starts. Talbot got $4.17x3 after 56 starts with Edmonton where he posted a pedestrian 917sv%. I understand being hesitant to commit 4 years to Lehner, but if you think you're getting him for something like $3.5Mx2, I think you're in fantasy land, RFA or not. And I'm pretty sure he's arbitration eligible, where he'd assuredly get a higher cap hit than you want, albeit for less term.

Okay, so are you in favor of trading him? Because I'm not sure how you convince his agent he should sign for meaningfully less than Darling and Jones. I'm curious what your pitch would be.

And he was bad at saving those. However, he also faced an abnormally large number of low danger shots from the outside, and he was terrific at stopping those. The theory is this inflated his cumulative save percentage. In a different system where he's facing fewer low percentage shots, so a larger share of shots against would be dangerous, he'd look less like a top-10 goalie statistically. I personally buy this, I just don't think he going to crater to the bottom class of starters.

Fraud? So not even average starter? That'd be quite the swing. I think he'll be exposed...as average. And that's fine for something like a $4Mx4 contract.

Lehner is young and in line for a 3-4 year deal. I'm really not worried about finding "the next one" in that time frame. Grubauer is the no-brainer to me.

I'm just wholly unconcerned about losing a middle of the pack goalie prospect. Since he was drafted, Ullmark had had one great season. That's it. Meh. The impending loss of Petersen and our love of MODO has caused us to significantly overrate this guy. I also think Carrier is better than a 4th liner on a contender.

He's a better NHL player than Ullmark.

I think there's like 4 young goalies I'd take before Ullmark. I don't think he's nearly as highly regarded around the league as he is here.

You just said the point. If he's not a Vegas target anyway, why protect him and risk losing Carrier?

Ennis is cooked, and may have just never been more than a good stats bad team guy in the first place. He needs top minutes and PP time to put up points, but if he's getting those opportunities, your team is probably pretty bad.

This is precisely what I would do, and what I expect Vegas to do.

I think it's far likelier that he doesn't than he does. But he's the type that GMs always talk themselves into as a reclamation project, only to have said project never get off the proverbial ground. I'll be annoyed if I have to watch him sabotage our top-6 again.
