I mean, some people also said Eichel would be better in the NHL because he was a half inch taller and like 5 pounds heavier at draft time. Motivated reasoning is fun! I expect him to be established as our best D and getting 1st unit PP time by the midpoint in the season. Quite possibly sooner.

Are they underperforming, though? The second half of Bylsma's final season, last season, and an offseason that didn't meaningfully improve the on-ice talent (absent growth)...it's all looked the same. Mayhaps they are who they are? That's Flagg's point, I think.

Dak has had pretty heavy criticism since last season, I think. He had a great rookie year, but he hasn't reached that peak since. Frankly, he's a case study in why you don't crown someone too soon. Kinda why I scoffed at changing my opinion on Allen during the preseason, as some seemingly thought should happen, and why I rolled my eyes at the chest-thumping following the Vikings game.
