I never really forgave the NBA for pulling out of Buffalo......but there is still no way I could ever imagine cheering for the Clippers.
-
I admit I thought it too. Especially with Jack Ramsay passing away.
-
I saw that, but blaming Miller exclusively seems a bit lazy to me. This is a flawed team.

is Patrick Kane the best in the world?

Goal numbers aside, Gretsky would have been the best player in any generation. He was an even better passer than shooter. His vision was unreal. -
What you should really look at in drafting is the player taken directly after and you get a better idea of the real process...... In which case you get: Dubnyk, Tuskiak, Pokuluk, Denny, Berglund, Mathias (after Enroth), Vasynouv (after Weber)..... and so on ..... .. Basically drafting is looking at thousands of 12 year olds girls all year and trying to guess which ones will turn into supermodels by the time they turn 18.

But don't discount the wave of drunkeness that accompanies the opening of free agency. I was factoring that in.

Just to be clear, No apologies. Miller wasn't good enough. He killed his market value. I only look at it in a diagnostic way. Miller was caught between styles. The Sharp goal yesterday was particularly bothersome. You could tell his instinct was to challenge...he pulls back...and then tries a pokey. Man alive, that was ugly. All in all though it was pretty clear to me that he was coached to stay back in net. Corey Hirsch had Miller breathing out of his eyeballs to no avail.
-
I don't expect Miller is going to get too much with dollars and term once he hits the market. I'm just guessing, but I think 4.5 million X 2 is probably what he could get at market given his most recent performance.
-
True. He went against his own formula.
-
I've enjoyed some of his stuff. He does seem to rely a little too heavily on Jared Diamond for my tastes....but i could be watching TMZ or something. A few years ago he did something on the Selucids that I found very interesting.

Failure brings out some emotion doesn't it? I really think St. Louis needs to restructure.....move a D man for top 6 forward talent for starters.
-
Kessel is symptomatic of Toronto's problem. Building a team from the outside in is a sure recipe for inconsistency. When it works it is beautiful, but without controlling center ice, other teams can dictate too much of the game.
-
Those numbers weren't good, and it really doesn't serve as an excuse for Miller, but you could sense some indecision in his game which was never typical of him. That millisecond of hesitation ends up in the back of the net if it is Kane or Toews. What I can't get over is how many times Chicago got behind the defense on the rush. That can't happen.
-
Both players have a lot of mileage left. FWIW....the Blues really asked Miller to play a different style. 3 more PP goals and this is probably St. Louis's series. Ott did Ott's thing. He hit everything, and chirped, but it really didn't rattle a composed Chicago. Both guys will be in the league for years to come. \

He needs to find the goalie of the next 9 years, not the goalie of the past 9. and....Having okay goal-tending isn't such a bad thing right now.....cough (McDavid)

Hitchcock gets teams playing a disciplined system very quickly. It is a dogged system that requires discipline, but he finds success with it. Hitchcock's weakness is that he doesn't change script very easily. He always seems to get out-coached when the situation demands improvisation and flexibility. St. Louis needs to fire Hitchcock not because he's a bad coach, but because his players need to outgrow him to go to the next level.

The thing with that strategy is that getting out of the first round is often the hardest part. You usually need the attrition from the first series to apply depth as an advantage in the 2nd series. St. Louis really shot themselves in the foot with the last 10 games of the season. They could have been playing Dallas going into round 2 with hardly a scratch.
-
I don't think Halak was the answer for St. Louis.
-
I really don't think it makes sense for the team or for Buffalo to invest in Miller. Ott is a possibility. The upside of St. Louis losing is that he probably goes to market. Who wouldn't love playing with Ott. He's probably the funniest chirper in the league.
-
I really think the top 6 is what failed in St. Louis. 2 for 29 on the PowerPlay in the series for 6.9%. They couldn't punish Chicago for bad penalties. That and you can't give a team like Chicago clean breakaways. They cash them in. Hitch really lost a game of patience to Chicago. Mistakes cost them bit in this series.
-
Well, and embarrassing period for the Blues. Chicago never lost composure or got rattled for long. Goodbye first round pick...... @#%%$^@!!!!
-
Dallas is in the playoffs a year early. While it is more success than anyone expected, it is a measurable success attributable to natural causes. Jim Nill has had a pretty impressive 12 months so far. Disagree?

I smell moose.

What an irritating response. This is exactly what a new thread should be for. I don't know what your name was before, but somehow you've managed to post over 3000 times and managed not to be infected by any civic or community ethos. We have a long off-season. We could put a lump of coal in your ass and it would turn to diamond before the sabres drop puck again. Consider unclenching and having a little fun. This is a game we are talking about here. It's a good hockey topic. As for Kane - if I was starting a team, I'd probably take Toews first. Although Kane wouldn't be far down the list. Edit: I see others addressed this, so apologies for piling on, but I needed the vent.
