I don't think it's the right trade to make. If the Sabres were in a good position and just needed some better backup play to vault us into a high playoff seed then sure. But the fact that we're likely to be sellers means that this trade would be a lateral move.

Yup. Last night the shot where Vanek went down on his knee to shoot it in the 80% open net from the slot and Hank got the very edge of his pad on it. The relief of the power play being over and the fact that they probably wont get booed for a while gives them a momentum boost similar to the boost good teams get from a penalty kill.
