    It doesn't shake out well for a while. Best case scenario: Risto becomes a #1, Nikita becomes a 2/3, Gorges plays at a #4 level for a couple more years. Sabres sign a good #2 in the off season. That D corp probably hits its stride in 2017 at best? It's much more stable with Myers in the mix.

    McDavid tanking to get picked 2nd overall makes him 60% more likely to be a Sabre. Boo ya!

    Size can't be taught. It's a tool in Myers's box that he uses inconsistently. When people refer to his height, they are referring to his untapped potential. You are using hyperbole in the opposite manner. Myers is a pretty imposing force when it comes to separating a forward from the puck. Obviously, we all want him to throw his body around like Nikita, but there are effective defensemen that aren't physical. Ehrhoff and Sekera come to mind, both were criminally underrated on this board. If Myers was 6'1" maybe you wouldn't think it was so pathetic when a forward muscled him off the puck. Myers is still developing. I don't know how you could possibly assert that he is done growing as a player.

    I didn't realize he was still an RFA. In that case, yeah bridge contract has no downside.

    I agree. This is the exact kind of player you don't bridge. If he continues developing into a shutdown 3rd liner, it's a great value. Elsewise, we can count on him being a consistently physical 4th liner for the duration. Even if you have to give him 2 mil per, I'd do it.

    Thanks for linking that Fasching goal, Dudacek. He didn't stop moving his feet for one second on that play. Digged, pivoted, protected, and found a soft spot in the defense.

    I don't think Hodgson is ever going to be a blood and guts player and have the fire. He was a fine complimentary piece on our terrible team last year, though, so what happened? I certainly don't blame Nolan, some players and coaches just don't mesh.

    I don't think avoiding the show is worth it the trouble. Just take them as two different stories and accept that there'll be some central story elements for TWoW spoiled. Reading the first three books after I watched the show didn't make them any less nuanced and amazing, I understand why it bothers people, though. As for the bolded, I don't see how else they could've gone about it. /tinfoil on These are big spoilers.

    For all his being an offensive lineman talk, Marrone did so little to actually improve the O-line while he was here. Incognito is a good signing.

    Myers's size is important to his game because he uses his massive reach to shut down large areas of the ice, not because he destroys dudes with bone shattering checks. He's never been inherently physical, but that doesn't make him any less of an effective defenseman. He certainly did when he signed on the dotted line.
