Kane with a couple brutal decisions to shoot this period. One time he had Eichel wide open in the top of the slot, the second time it was Reinhart. Aaarrrgghh- 374 replies

We don't have all the pieces, but Eichel and Reinhart are both still rookies. Two seasons from now, they'll be able to carry the team rather than just being contributors.

Yes! Success! Excellent. Not a purchase you will regret. I've been playing for 6 years and I'm still on the same everything except for new gloves and helmet.

John Scott looked bad as an AHLer. He played maybe 30 seconds in the 3rd period when St. John's was trying to come back from a 3-0 defecit. He tried to fight somebody at one point and got a penalty (I have no idea why, seemed like the refs should've let the fight happen).

I'm going to a Binghamton vs St. John's tonight. Maybe Big John will beat someone up or shoot the shoots into inner nets.

Doc is fine. NBCSN feeds are really bad about random stories and junk being talked about during gameplay. And I refuse to believe that tv only guys are fine because they're "highly regarded." So? If the general population doesn't like them then that should speak for itself. TV is for the viewers, not "those inside the game," whatever that means.- 490 replies

I prefer a good radio call for the TV feed as well. Being a "passable tv guy" basically means you know how to talk better than Rob Ray. Dunleavy has some good goal calls, that's about all he does for me.- 490 replies

Familiarity breeds contempt. Max is a great player and is only 27. He's signed for 3 more years at an extremely reasonable 4.5 mil per. His production is roughly equivalent to Pominville's (but more goals) at the same age and I think he's better defensively. Man, if we traded for him my mom would go NUTS. Max is her favorite player in the league.

STL was not ready to implement a completely different style of goaltending mid-season. Elliot and Halak were reflex guys, whereas Miller is an aggressive positional guy. Vanek was hardly the only MTL forward struggling in the playoffs that year (5 goals and 5 assists in 17 games, hardly even struggling), but he was certainly the coach's chosen scape goat (probably due to him being a misused offensive specialist and his contract expiring). Not to mention Vanek was well past his scoring prime by the time he got to MTL.

YOU CAN'T SLAP MY EMOTIONS AWAY -
Reinhart and Risto are protected assets. No way I'd trade either of them for Subban's contract. I think that Eichel will be better than PK. I think that Risto will be better than PK defensively, and worse offensively (we will see how much worse, hopefully not by much). I think that Reinhart will be about as effective a player as PK. PK is definitely the best player right now, but sacrificing one of our young guns for him isn't worth it. Not to mention it would give us even less cap flexibility.
-
I've always thought that we lost in the playoffs because of overall roster suckage, not because Pommers, Vanek, and Roy were wilting under pressure. If those 3 guys are your top 3 forwards, you're pretty much going to get what we got.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have always had a special thing about cars. They're more or less metaphors for the owner's soul. Walt broke Aztek's windshield very often. It was always his fault, and always had to do with him running his business. First the airplane debris breaks it, and he overreacts to a cop and gets himself pepper sprayed because he feels like everybody should feel bad for him (HELLFIRE RAINED DOWN ON MY HOUSE!). Then, Jesse throws a rock through the windshield when Walt is being a douche about Jesse cooking alone (specifically right after he tells Jesse that he's going to work for Gus, and Gus only bought Jesse's meth to give Walt half of the money). Then, it breaks again when Walt runs down two rival dealers at the end of season 3 to save Jesse. And finally, it breaks when Walt drives out into traffic to avoid taking Hank to the laundry. Then in season 5, after the Aztek gets fixed yet again the mechanic lists all of the things that were replaced and how sturdy the car is. He finishes by saying that this car could last Walt a very, very long time. Walt responds by selling the Aztek to the mechanic for 50 bucks and buying a fancy black Chrysler 300. This decision reminds me so much of (season 1 episode 5) when Elliot was offering Walt a job to give him insurance to save his family from the financial blow black of Walt's cancer. Instead of doing what's best for his family, Walt does something stupid for the sake of Walt's ego. I really like that the windshield was always the part of the Aztek that broke. I think that it's meant to represent Walt's view of the world becoming more and more warped. Hell, he thinks it should be okay that he drives around with a broken windshield, just like he rationalizes away every other obviously stupid thing that he does. So Walt drives the sleek, black 300 around town pretending that he's a badass kingpin and life is good until Hank gets killed. Then he tries to drive away from To'hajiilee but discovers a bullet hole in the gas tank. And that's the end of that car. I've always seen Jimmy's car in a similar light. It's sad and kind of pathetic. It's called the "Esteem." It gets established in the fake out shot where the camera pans from a white caddy. Yellow is very much the color of Jimmy McGill during season 1. It's the coolest hot color, reflecting how he has a slight inclination towards crime while still trying to maintain legitimacy. Outside Chuck's house the streetlights are yellow, the soap in the bathroom of the courthouse is yellow, the window in his office/bedroom is tinted yellow. The red door is behind the driver's seat, I've always interpreted that as his criminal past. As far as the metaphor: Jimmy's car is routinely denied access when trying to leave his place of employment. The parking booth is representative of Jimmy's psyche, with Mike playing the part of his conscience. Jimmy becomes more and more comfortable breaking the law as the season goes on, which happens to run parallel with his relationship with Mike and the booth. By the end of the season, he's going through with no charge, without having to pay anything. The only reason it takes him a while to get through is because he himself wants to stop and talk to Mike, because Jimmy is still sorting it out.

Thanks for the kind words, PA and Bruno. I didn't really take special notice of Pryce's shoes. Hot colors are associated with crime, and his fiery shoes match his new H2. I think the shoe specific shots are supposed to reference how fast everything changed for Pryce. The first time we saw him was a shot of his boring guy loafers walking around the minivan, and he's come a "long way" since then in his 5 or so drug deals. I can't get over how hilarious that hummer looks barely fitting in the parking garage.

I think that Reinhart is faster than O'Reilly, and is such a smart player it's only a matter of time before he figures out 3 on 3. It might help if he got a single shift of 3 on 3 before this game, but Dan gonna Bylsma.- 351 replies

My girlfriend left for her second semester yesterday. She's studying abroad in Brno, the second biggest city in Czech Republic until July. This is gonna suck.

That third period really sucked. The game was pretty exciting before that. Lehner didn't even come close to stopping the shootout attempts, but played another very strong game otherwise. I agree that Evander Kane tips this game in our favor. And if that's the "good" Foligno then I'm done with him. Kid is a 4th liner who can play up a line in a pinch. I don't think that he can fill in on the second line. Yuck.- 351 replies

I think Larsson deserves the patience that many here have for Foligno. He finished last season producing quite well on the top line with Ennis and Moulson (and Girgensons before he got hurt maybe?), and this year he's been a beast centering the third line for us. I think it's more than reasonable to expect him to be a strong 3rd line center who can chip in 30-35 points.
