  1. This. It's a marathon, not a sprint. And for the love of God, I hate Boston sports fans. Once the Patriots and Red Sox started winning titles, they all came out of the woodwork feeling entitled.
  2. The wife & I went to bed at the second intermission...I turned the bedroom TV on, watched a bit of the 10:00 news, completely forgot about flipping back to the game, then fell asleep. I will happily take full credit for this win.
  3. This x 1,000,000 Signature win. I never expected that, but Lehner was stellar.
  4. If he was really ticked off at Bylsma for pulling him, then I say sit him for a week. Nilsson has been the better goalie, anyway.
  5. I've had a cold for almost 3 days now...the worst part is that I wake up feeling like $#!@& and only slowly feel better throughout the day. I've taken Nyquil, but keep waking up every hour & a half to cough or blow my nose or something. :wallbash:
  6. Right - the company has been preaching 100% participation for as long as I've been there. I think the "coercion" comes in where every other department achieves 100%, so we get pushed to do the same. I'm not trying to say we're doing "forced donations" (though I admit it's pretty close to that), but if 849 of the 850 people in the company donate, why not bug the guy to throw in a buck?
  7. Well, he's just been vocal about it - he's made it clear that he won't donate...unless he's given an advance. Plus, our community dept can tell who has and who hasn't donated. I guess that's the tracking, but it's also so mgmt can bully persuade people into donating. Agreed. I don't think our company is consciously trying to guilt-trip everyone, but I can see how it comes off that way. I just think that because it's in the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate (he even claimed once that he was one of those, yet we can't disprove that), he can give up a measly dollar.
  8. Didn't this all start with the old lady who spilled coffee on herself, then sued McDonald's for not saying it was hot? My complaint - my company runs a holiday donation program every year (where the money is donated to local charities) and we are all encouraged - though not required - to contribute. Our goal is to have exactly 100% participation, meaning every person in every department company-wide contributes *something*, even if it's $1. My cheap, knucklehead, I-don't-care-about-anyone co-worker hasn't contributed once in his 4 years. Not a penny. Management knows this and a have actually given him $5 a couple of times so he can donate in his name so that we achieve the 100% goal. This year, we're one of the few departments (if not the only one) to not have 100% participation yet and we all know who hasn't donated. I know he's technically not required to contribute, but his lack of participation just adds to everyone's frustration with him (his work habits are another long complaint that I've discussed in the past). He has an income, so we all think he can afford $1. Am I expecting too much?
  9. Amen. In theory, I like the stuff I'm supposed to be doing. I don't like how some managers micro-manage me and stick their noses in areas that aren't theirs and really don't affect the overall operation of things. I don't like how the guy who is supposed to work with me on the same things is acting like a government employee who just watches the clock, eats from the free salad bar, doesn't volunteer to do any tasks, and hates it when you assign him something to do off-hours (yes, we're IT...off-hours work is part of the job).
  10. A little late, but my condolences, Swamp. I had to put down my little 13-year-old, 15-pound shih tzu about 7 years ago and it still brings a tear to my eye. (btw, how do I simply insert a jpg image into this???) I'm getting the overwhelmed feeling at work - all sorts of projects at the same time that one manager gives me more work than the guy I actually report to. I declined a meeting from the first boss because I had a conflict and I think they took a serious issue with that (as in, "how dare you decline my meeting, since my stuff is more important than everything else"). :censored:
  11. Anne Hathaway is hot. In this picture, at least.
  12. In other words, every city's reporter says their team is the leading candidate.
  13. When Union College recruited the players that started making their program better, they were sold on playing time. They weren't necessarily the best players being sought after, but they were team players with enough talent to be 2nd or 3rd liners on the good junior teams. This translated to wins. I really hope this point is what sells Jimmy.
  14. Can't shake this exhausted feeling every afternoon...maybe it's work because I seem to fight with and/or correct everyone in the office.
  15. Is it time to look for a new job when you dread coming in every day to the point of mini-migraines? I really can't stand the open-cubicle environment we have now - very distracting and difficult to work in. Plus the room is hot. And before you tell me, putting my earbuds in and cranking the music doesn't help. Let's not forget the one manager who loves to micro-manage everything I do and I technically don't even report to this person. And Vesey still isn't signed.
  16. Picked up a bourbon from these guys about a month ago and I'm sold...big time https://www.facebook.com/yankeedistillers/
  17. Best Family Guy scene. Ever.
  18. I've been so physically and mentally exhausted since Tuesday morning that it's just a hope that today was Friday. The wife is out of town this week for the first time in a month. I started to get used to not being in a rush to get things done that maybe it took its toll on me throughout Monday. That and I kept getting nagged by my hypochondriac mother because she thinks I have some speech problem because I happened to slur a word or two while talking to her (I was quite tired and just wasn't focusing).
  19. I watched him walk all over the ECAC for the last two years. For the love of God, Tim...sign him now.
  20. "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part" is more accurate.
  21. Exactly...when you go out drinking with them, you essentially become one of them. Had that happen at a job years ago and that person eventually became a manager and we saw that person turn from a good, smart employee to toeing the company line every time he spoke.
  22. Sounds like a multitude of things went wrong with that whole scenario. Perhaps your friend was trying to help the disgruntled employees, but providing feedback at the bar probably wasn't the best forum to do so. I just ran into the same scenario a little over a year ago - our executive held 1-on-1 meetings with the 5 of us who are the most senior within the department. When asked what was wrong, we were all honest and indicated one particular boss was too nitpicky, was micromanaging everyone in the department, and generally holding us back. We were told the exact same thing "You're wrong, so have some thick skin and buck up."
  23. When you're the only network guy in IT and 6 people want your time...three of which who assume you'll drop everything and work on their problem.
