  1. And the particular sign I'm thinking of is the one that's about a half-mile from those bridges on the southbound lanes. That usually makes crossing the bridges that much more difficult.
  2. We're still doing these, right? Complaint #1 - Nobody had started this thread yet. Complaint #2 - Overhead electronic road signs. We've had them on I-87 in the Albany area for several years, but about 99% of the time, they're blank. The idea (which is a good one, IMO) is to inform motorists of any potential accident or upcoming road work that would affect their commute or travel. Unfortunately, it backfires...every time the sign has an announcement, people slow down to a crawl just before they reach the sign (as if they have to study it), then move on. We could be cruising along at 65mph with no problems, then we hit the brakes and slow to about 20 just before the sign, then speed up and resume our normal speed.
  3. Not sure which is worse....that dry snow you speak of or when the wet snow is melting from the trees, acting like huge rain drops.
  4. Wet snow. I got 3 inches of it last night and it likely won't be easily picked up by my testosterone-based snowblower, so I'm going to have to shovel a 300 sq ft driveway tonight.....if the 35-degree weather doesn't melt it. But hey...I'm a third liner.
  5. True....though either sandwich would have cleaned out the colon effectively.
  6. Complaint #1: We have a new guy where I work. Smart guy, knows his stuff, willing to learn, and pretty much has a lot of good qualities about him, except.... He'll walk back to his desk while I'm in the middle of a conversation with another co-worker and he starts asking about said conversation, which usually has nothing to do with him, so we need to re-hash it and start from the beginning. Again, nice guy, but does he need to know about every single thing I talk about with everyone else? Complaint #2: I got a coupon for a buy-one-get-one-free new waffle sandwich at Dunkin Donuts, so the wife & I proceed there for breakfast this morning. She gets a ham, egg, & cheese, while I order a bacon, egg, & cheese. They throw them in the bag and we go our separate ways to work. Upon arriving at work, we both find out they're croissant sandwiches....not the waffle sandwich we ordered. :censored: Too late at that point to go back to DD. :censored:
  7. Along these lines.... Coming home from work earlier this week, I'm at the off-ramp of I-87 (just north of Albany) waiting for the light to turn green. I'm about 4th or 5th in a long line of cars coming off the ramp. As soon as the light turns green, some yahoo behind me lays on the horn....we're talking milliseconds after the light changes. I'm still struggling to figure out why he (or any impatient idiot) was doing such a thing. Was he trying to alert the guy who is 6 cars in front of him that the light turned green and he should've moved quicker? And another complaint....I'm a network engineer for my income. I work with server admins and developers all the time. Why do they need to incessantly argue with me about how MY network devices operate, when they clearly don't know how to spell TCP?
  8. We have an ISP-type that convinced us they should take over all of our email handling. We're an organization of 9,000+ with a pretty large IT group that generally knows what it's doing, yet they completely underestimated our abilities (yes, I'm one of those IT people) and treat us like dogsh*t when it comes to the details. Not to mention, they sold us on their experience and how they do this with a lot of customers...but every question we have for them is usually responded to with "Uh, we'll have to research that and get back to you."
  9. Complaint #1 - Phone books. First of all, does anyone use them anymore? They're a waste of paper these days. Second, we get one delivered every so often (every 6 months, I think) and when they delivered the latest one last week, it got buried in the snow in my driveway, so I never saw it. As I ran my snowblower through the driveway, I ran over it and it subsequently got stuck in the rotors - I had to finish my driveway with a shovel, then wait a day or so to wiggle it out. :censored: Complaint #2 - Why does everyone I work with need to hold a conversation (that I'm not involved in) next to my desk...especially when I'm actually trying to work or on the phone? :censored:
  10. :worthy: Thank you. Does anyone ever say anything to these morons? I'd be ticked if I paid that much money for lower level seats and couldn't see the play right in front of me because a few idiots want to be on TV.
  11. Slow walkers....when I'm at the office and I get up from my desk to use the restroom or pick something up from the printer or (most maddening) when I'm walking to a meeting, there's almost always someone in front of me who just walks painfully slow. It's not like I'm sprinting or going at one of those run-walk speeds, I'm just walking at a normal pace and I can't get around this person. Get the H out of the way!!!
  12. I've got it down to a science where I hit the ATM once a week and get enough cash for that week (which usually isn't much, anyway). The only thing I don't like about using a debit card is noting every transaction in my check register, but it's quite convenient to not have to remember my checkbook when shopping. My complaint....college bowl games. I love the season and watching a lot of these games, but I was done with them after New Year's Day. I hate how the NC$$ stretches them out so much - either finish them on New Year's Day or by Jan 3rd.
  13. Christmas Eve traffic near a mall......'nuff said. The worst part is that a major area mall is across the street from work. I've decided to take the day off on 12/24/09.
  14. Well, I can't disagree with him coming in and cleaning up the budget, either. What I don't like is the approach...layoffs, spending cuts, and taxes are the easy way out, IMO. Layoffs should be a last resort, which I realize some companies end up at, but they're usually a cop-out because the top dogs don't want to stop spending on things that benefit them.
  15. Never was this more evident than yesterday morning....as I'm driving the wife into work on slushy, snowy roads that had yet to be cleared from the 2-3 inches we got (in Albany), three people cut me off. One guy did a right-on-red as I was probably less than 50 feet from the intersection, one guy cut me off on the interstate while changing lanes, and the third guy said "Screw this red light thing, I'm going straight through the intersection" while 3 other cars are about to rightfully pass through it. And on to my complaint: Governor Paterson....I took a state job to get some stability, and now he's talking layoffs.
  16. Shopping malls. Yeah, I was suckered in because I had to buy presents for the family and the mall is right across the street from my office. I hate it when vendors at a kiosk-type stand shout out to you to "borrow" you for just a minute while she shows her hand & nail products, then demonstrates them on you....when all you want to do is keep walking right past them. At least she was hot.
  17. I hate those drivers who stop 30 feet behind the car in front of them at a red light, then slowly creep up closer to that car while the light is still red.
  18. I see you haven't gotten the hint yet. B-)
  19. The Ford CEO....why will he only work for $1 next year IF the government bails him out? Greed aside, wouldn't he think that if his salary was $1 next year, that the company could use the other $99,999,999 (or whatever the actual number is) towards salaries of the assembly line workers that are losing their jobs?
  20. Tendonitis. I've had bouts with it in different spots. Several years ago in my right forearm, two years ago in my right shoulder (so bad I needed physical therapy), and now in my left leg. I hate limping around.
  21. Along the lines of this.... I hate it when people drop to 50mph in the right lane of a highway within a mile of an exit. I live just north of Albany off of I-87 Exit 9 and I'll very frequently find someone doing this at my exit. It's a *relatively* busy spot, but not so much that we need to be extra careful because there are soooooo many cars trying to get off there.
  22. I'm with you, but I didn't think CNN was too bad about this. They usually have a little image of a video camera next to the link to tell you that it's a video.
  23. They were booing their own GM for giving props to the Rays for having a great season.
  24. My complaint.....I'm a network engineer and I hate when my unit is constantly being asked by our developers to monitor activity between servers to see why THEIR application fails, only to turn it on us by saying it's a firewall problem.
