so 9 out of the last 10 guys have been home runs and its just as likely they draft a guy who may be only a double? Plus Fleury is only 22, kinda young to write him off. You are worried about the time line of the current players when Jack is 22 and Rasmus just turned 19?
-
you'd have to have Pod ranked considerably higher than the other guys left on the board. Assuming Pod is still there at 7, my best guess is that the Sabres would have to choose between one of Cozens, Dach, Turcotte, Zegras and Byram or Pod. I think I would go with the North American player over the Russian. not only because of nationality but because of position. Keep forgetting about Krebs, will be interesting to watch him at the u18s when he has other good players to play with.

may not be yours but definitely the majority of people would have that complaint. What young player would you be able to trade for that is better than the list of 7th overall draft picks? those are some pretty good hockey players on that list. You want to get a guy like Skinner? to get a good player who is coming close to UFA status, it doesn't take the 7th overall pick to get such a player. Why wouldn't you want to draft the likes of Turcotte, Zegras or Cozens and have them in your control for the next 10 years or so? I'll bet all of them are NHL players in 2020.

Here are the players drafted at 7 since 2010 Jeff Skinner 31 Goals in rookie year Mark Scheifele - Takes 2 years to become NHL regular but is just put up 38 goals and is a Jet until 2024, 13 years after they drafted him Matthew Dumba - now a 50 point Dman UFA in 2023 11 years in the Minnesota organization Darnel Nurse - just coming off a 40 point Season - 24 year old Dman coming into his own he will be an RFA in 2021 Hayden Fleury - 22 year old Dman just played 67 Games for the Hurricanes. Bottom pair at this point. Ivan Provorov - bit of a down year but still put up 27 points and has played in 246 games in NHL barely 22 years of age. Clayton Keller drafted in 2016, plays 1 year at Boston U and now has 2 NHL seasons 65 points and 47 points Lias Anderson - will big part of the Rangers rebuild Quinn Hughes - Will probably be battling Hiskanen and Dahlin for the Norris for the next decade. You may get a better player for the 2019 20 season but highly unlikely you get a better player for their career not to mention one you can control for the next 10 - 12 years. I still think its hilarious that the major complaint about Murray is he traded all the draft picks (though never one as high as 7th overall) and now here we are again and there are still those who think trading draft picks is a good idea!

looks like all the top forwards except Dach will be there. Should be fun watching, i really like that we know the Sabres draft position before the Tournament.
-
Kirby Dach invited to the u-18s but declined due to injury sustained in playoffs
-
Can you list the last 10 7th overall? Think you”ll find there aren’t many “maybes”
-
Agreed but not impossible.
-
Think the pick has to be of Dach, Zegras, Turcotte or Cozens. If all 4 off the board - then I go Byram.
-
If I remember correctly, NHL Central Scouting loves size.

Bad news for someone hoping to watch him at the u-18s?
-
a legit 2nd line Center through trade or UFA. Everything else will fall into place.

Bad news. Team USA at World u18s already missing Turcotte and now Zegras left todays scrimmage with an Arm injury and did not return. Though, the counter argument would be that if guys like Boldy, Cozens and Krebs have strong tournaments, it could vault them above Zegras and Turcotte on a lot of teams draft boards. Increasing the probabilities that they are both available at 7 Edit. Word is that he is fine and left for precautionary reasons as it was just an exhibition.

Unfortunately, he is not on the initial U18 USA roster due to injury. He was injured the first half of the season and now another injury. If you are hoping for him at 7, this could help drop him

i dont think its necessary, Sabres will have plenty cap space. They could be the one taking on a bad contract if the team was willing to give up a draft pick or prospect.

For those keeping Track: So far ive seen Sabres taking Cozens, Caufield, Dach (2 times), Zegras, Turcotte, and Boldy

more mocks NHL.COM https://www.nhl.com/news/2019-nhl-mock-draft-after-lottery-results/c-306630982?tid=277764372 Sabres Picks: 7. Buffalo Sabres Kimelman -- Cole Caufield, RW, USA U-18 (NTDP): Ignore Caufield's size (5-7, 162), because the 18-year-old might be the best pure goal scorer available in the draft. His 54 goals this season were one off center Auston Matthews' single-season NTDP high, and his 108 goals in two seasons at the NTDP broke forward Phil Kessel's record of 104. Seeing him lining up alongside centers Jack Eichel or Casey Mittelstadt would give the Sabres' offense a jolt from the right side that Jeff Skinner provided from the left this season. He'll play at the University of Wisconsin next season. Morreale -- Cozens: The right-shot center will provide the Sabres with additional depth through the middle. When using his speed and attacking, Cozens is very difficult to contain. He's a fantastic skater, tough in all areas of the ice and finished tied for 10th in the Western Hockey League with 84 points (34 goals, 50 assists) in 68 regular-season games. Lepage -- Dach: Here is a big power forward who would strengthen the Sabres down the middle. Dach not only brings size but plays at high speed and has a good touch around the net. McKeens Hockey https://www.mckeenshockey.com/nhl-blog/post-lottery-2019-nhl-mock-draft/ Buffalo Sabres – Trevor Zegras, C/W, USNTDP (USHL) This pick could have gone in many different directions, but many of those directions passed through the US Under-18 squad in Plymouth, Michigan. I am picking Zegras here, more because of his versatility than due to our actually ranking him higher than any of the other available talents. Buffalo lacks much of anything on the wings in the system, both on the NHL roster and in the system. They would likely select Podkolzin if he drops another spot but would be very happy to have Zegras develop on their watch.

Cap is about $83 Million. I'm taking a bigger swing in the UFA market myself. With Risto it will be interesting what the new coach thinks they can do with him. I could see most thinking they can "fix" him or put in a position to be successful.
-
my quick calculation that if the Sabres offer slight raises to Erod, Larsson, Ulmark and McCabe and have 2 of Nylander, Smith, Olofsson or Thompson on the opening night roster. Sign Skinner for $9mill. Move Scandella for a bag of pucks or late rd draft pick They still have about $20mill in cap. They need to go out and spend that money (maybe even over pay to bring in a 2nd line Center). One of Duchene, Hayes or Pavelski need to be on the opening night roster next Oct.
-
why are we still worrying about size? Top point producers this past year - Kucherov 178lbs at 25 Patrick Kane 177 at 30 Brad Marchand 181lbs at 30 Johnny Gaudreau 165lbs at 25 Brayden Point 166lbs at 23 Mitch Marner 175lbs at 21 Thats 6 of the top 11. 168lbs at 17 IS NOT AN ISSUE
-
i dont mind keeping Larsson on the 4th line. Girgensons time has come and gone - time to pull the plug. If Sabres sign Skinner for $8mill Per. What would they have left to spend in FA? Assuming Scandella is moved off the books.

From Sportsnets Sam Cosentino Kirby Dach, C, Saskatoon Blades (WHL), 6-foot-3, 199 pounds: A cerebral game with everything in place to become a top-notched NHL player. Would love to see more consistent push-back.
