The last thing this team needs right now is to target high profile FAs that will command top dollar and term not to mention that there's no reason Tavares would come here for the same reason there's no chance Kane will re-sign here. This team is a disaster and they want to compete. Re: Kane, I'm wondering if JBots wants to trade him sooner rather than wait for a bidding war at the trade deadline. If Kane gets injured, which is in the realm of possibility that could hinder our returns if it's anything serious.

Considering just how terrible other teams have been playing I'm having trouble fathoming that despite all the suck, the Sabres are 6 points behind any other team not named the Coyotes.

I don't think i've watched more than 1 or 2 full games this year. Typically I'll listen to the radio on my phone while I finish up my day, get dinner ready, etc and will sit down and watch the third period, which is usually when they start putting pressure on the net once they're down 2 or 3 goals.

I am in no way rooting for losses but the reality is this team is awful. So I'll be keeping an eye on this to see where we stand. Currently we're tied with the yotes for last place and are 6 freaking points out of 3rd last place. I don't get the feeling that anyone here is actively hoping for a Sabres loss, rather, lifeless hockey has led to apathy and at this point there's no point in getting emotionally invested when you know the only thing the team excels at is their ability to under-perform and not score. Also people need to accept that Kane is not going to be re-signed here. Why on earth would he want to do that? He will get money with a contender elsewhere. There is no motivation for him to stay with Buffalo.

If the Sabres win tonight then the Bills will win on Sunday. Mark it. I know I'm coming off as overly negative in the posts here but I'm just being an realist. Tampa is elite this year. Us beating the Oilers (3rd worst team in the league) and playing a decent game against MTL (6th worse) isn't enough for me to think the Sabres have a shot at the Lighting. Side note. If the Coyotes beat the Oilers tonight and Tampa beats us we will be in the basement.

The Sabres have as much of a chance at beating Tampa tonight as the Bills do this Sunday against the Pats.

Aside from figuring out how to get Eichel's groove back? The goal for the rest of the season is to lay a foundation for next year (again). I'm expecting Kane to be traded and he's not re-signing here. He's a true competitor and has never been to the playoffs. There's no reason he'd want to come back to a losing teams. Contenders will offer him money in the off-season and he'll take it. I'm expecting a late 1st in return for him or a blue chip prospect. I'm sure there will be conditions on how deep the team goes. I'm also expecting Gorges to fetch us a 3rd or maybe even a 2nd if Botteril can work some magic. Teams looking to make a run need solid defensive depth and Gorges is perfect for that in a limited role. The rostered goalies on this team will not be here next year. Jury is still out on what happens with Reinhart. Sign him to an attractive bridge deal or trade him, it could go either way at this point. Let the kids in Rochester continue to marinate and win together. I can't remember the last time we've had a player developed in Rochester whose came up and really impressed and became a key member of the team. I think Girgensons and McCabe are the only players on the roster drafted by the Sabres who have spent more than 50 games in the AHL.
