  1. Oh, the D&C and Alamo are definitely style plays. There were some really forced attempts at plays last night and a lot of errant passes. That's a skill thing. It's not always as bad as it was last night however. Also, most Sabres were wearing a Devils sweater over their own. Anyway.. Sharks.. I like the Sharks. I can't hate them. Just can't get there. So.. I can't wait to watch.
  2. Let me say this... If Bylsma is the reason behind all of this then I have to give the players a lot of credit for not staging a revolt against him. I'm not sure I could sit there and continue to obey a coach who was demanding a system that neutered the skill of the team. That said, some of the stupid things I saw last night can't be blamed on the coach. But that was last night and tonight is tonight. Go Sabres.
  3. In the 2017 draft a low 1st round is the equivalent of a 2nd round pick. I've not seen anyone predict even a semi-deep draft class.
  4. Yay.. back to hockey. I get a small reprieve around the office until March when everyone starts blathering on about NCAA basketball. Go Sabres.
  5. He actually has a house in Buffalo too. I am pretty certain they are living there and go back to their house on Lake Ontario in the off-season. I wouldn't be. He can slot anywhere in the lineup and be effective, has leadership, and on an expiring contract in a season with an expansion draft. He's a great rental player for a team in a seller's market. I think he at least gets a 2nd. I wouldn't be surprised if a team is willing to give up a low first rounder for him, the 2017 draft class is looking pretty thin.
  6. Interesting that McCabe and Gorges are suddenly playing and Fedun is out. It's the time of year where lineup changes can really pique some interest. Go Sabres. Probably won't see this one, but love to see a W.
  7. I'll put this out there. Gionta wants to be in Buffalo more than anywhere else. He does not want to be traded but he expects he will be. So basically he's not telling Murray to NOT trade him. I've said in other threads I expect him in MTL or CBJ and I think the Sabres will get a good return for him. I do believe they would want him back next year and I am pretty certain he would come back in a 1 year deal if it included a no movement clause. These are things I've been told by someone who knows him very well. I would trade him because he will bring in valuable returns and because they should be able to bring him back next year and he should be on this team. He brings a LOT to that roster and the locker room. Beyond anything else he's a leader and that leadership can't be undervalued.
  8. I don't disagree with you but I think if the players understand the plan they are willing to deal with having had their chance to make the run prior to March 1. If, at March 1, they've not done the job then they look to next year. The roster will be quite a bit different I would think with some of the younger players in Rochester coming up into permanent roles. The Sabres can use this year to make the room by moving out players who are replaceable by the likes of Bailey, Baptiste, Nylander, etc. Interesting read. The one point that I hadn't considered is the scattered shifts that Moulson, Ennis, etc. get with ROR and KO. They are showcase shifts so teams can see what they do with some good players around them. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like much. That said, if GMs and coaches believe that Bylsma system is suppressing the player talent then they're likely to ignore on ice results a bit and look more at the foundations of the player. Should be interesting.
  9. The Sabres are going to sell because they can and they should. Murray said it. There are teams that think they have a shot. He knows the Sabres don't have a shot. Limping into a wild card spot and being eliminated in Round 1 doesn't do anything. Gionta will be sought after and comes with no strings. Kulikov is the same. Kane should be highly sought after. Moulson not as much - existing contract and all. So, if he's able to move them for a good D prospect or two or better I think he'd do it.
  10. Murray tried to fix the offense and in order to do that in a timely manner some D had to be moved. What options were left? Keep the draft pick and use it I suppose.. no idea if that "D" would be in Buffalo at this point. I do think Bylsma is killing the team however. They have the ability to be better but they struggle in their own end far too much.
  11. I think that demonstrates just how much I pay attention to the NBA and completely forgot that the Nets became the basketball team in Barclay Center... hah. Go me!
  12. Let them relocate implies they'd have a choice. If Barclays throws them out they have to find a local place to play. So if the league becomes desperate they need to look at MSG or the Devils rink. No way they go back out to the old rink. Squeezing a hockey team into the MSG or Devils rink schedules would be tough given the NBA presence.
  13. But if Gionta were to come back next year on another 1 year deal would they give him the "C"? If they move him it's likely they would play the rest of the year with 3 "A"s. I'm not sure any player would accept the "C" if he were to come back and I am pretty certain he would come back. And I'll stand by it.. MTL knows Gionta and he was their "C" for awhile. They could use him. CBJ absolutely could use him.
  14. Quebec City has its doors open and waiting.
  15. Gionta does not want to be traded but he expects to be. I'll float CBJ and MTL as the most likely of locations. These guys are professionals. They all know if you are a UFA at a trade deadline you are available. If Murray wants to send a message then he needs to sign Kulikov but it's unlikely he does that because it's one more player he has to protect. The variables to this season are increased due to the expansion draft. UFAs should have a pretty good value because they won't be on rosters after the season. A GM who maximizes the value of that pick will make a perfectly strong statement about winning in the future. If Murray pulls a player back in on a trade at this point he's going to have to choose who to protect. No player on that team believes they are top of the mix right now. It could be that Kulikov doesn't go anywhere simply because the Sabres don't want to pull up another player for this season. Gio, in my opinion, is a solid bet to return on a 1 year if they wanted him next season. Kulikov, not as much.
  16. The technology does exist for this. The question is wanting to implement it or it being economically feasible to do so given how many pucks go out of play. The FoxTraxx was child's play compared to what they have at this point. Given that the NHL adopted a video review system it implies they wanted to improve over on ice officiating alone. Now the question has to be, do they want to mostly right or almost completely right? (I'm not allowing for 100% accuracy yet).
  17. There are many times when the team that didn't "desetve" to win still does. 1999 Game 6. You are rationalizing. By the video, the Sabres deserved to win. By the stats maybe not. But they put the puck in the net.
  18. Buffalo vs. Dallas. No goal. This time the wrong way. Twice.
  19. Or, the offsides goal that was inconclusive and the Sabres goal that was not allowed isn't at all to blame? They were sleepwalking in the first two periods but those two calls are terrible and change everything if called right. Even this last goal now. That's in.
  20. Agreed. These refs are bad. Spezza, 2 minutes for holding Bogo? Nah. Total garbage.
  21. That's a goal. He doesn't move until he gets up and it's very much over the line.
  22. Kane making sure his ASG break antics are forgiven? Rohrbach Space Kitty for me right now. I vary from beer to beer though. One period left.
  23. I guess D-LO should have played?
  24. I'd be depressed if my beer sucked like the Sabres... But it doesn't. Also, every time RJ says Honka I think of a drill sergeant. Not quite the same but my brain wants it to be.
  25. Pecan Lodge? It's a little over 2 miles away which could be hell in traffic or if you are walking it.
