  1. Armia, Larssssson and Grigs with goals. more of that please.
  2. At a minimum an outbreak would involve public transmission of the virus. If we see that, it would be an indicator that things have gotten worse. Don't confuse the CDC Virus experts with some Doc who signed up help out in Africa. There's a huge difference between an MD and a public health expert with decades of experience in viral epidemiology. I fully agree with your last statement. This is something to pay attention to. Any disease this deadly with no known cure would warrant our attention. Lastly. You need to write a book of metaphors. In my opinion, you are hands down the best on this board. :)
  3. The CDC never said anything of the sort. They said the probability of an outbreak is essentially nil. So far, there has been zero transmission outside of the hospital. The Experts were right. But the general attitude in this post is exactly what I'm talking about. i don't see a problem coming to you for advice on Horses (you're an expert), or weave on Whiskey, and I don't see a problem with going to viral epidemiologists for advice on handling a virus.
  4. You crazy kids with your weekends and evenings and your occasional sleeping. I did get to stop at home today for an hour between my day job and my better one. Last 3 days didn't see that, so that's pretty fantastic.
  5. My sons are going as two Knights and a baby dragon. I will be a wizard. I'll be spending this week working on a device that will allow my to throw real fireballs. If I'm successful I'll post a video.
  6. Most people don't have the time or free mental bandwidth to learn everything about everything. We used to be able to defer to experts and move on with our lives, but somewhere along the way being an educated expert moved from being something our nation treasured (Apollo, Vaccines, Manhattan Project) to being something our nation despised and dismissed. Academic Elitist shouldn't be a pejorative.
  7. Interesting Article on travel bans: http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/why-an-ebola-flight-ban-wouldnt-work/
  8. If one wanted to bring chaos upon the US and Canada, one could go around brainwashing and arming mentally unstable homeless people. It could represent a huge risk. Not saying that is what happened here, but the story sparked that thought in my head.
  9. I really really really want to take that logo and build a dedicated page to the CHL linked up to the SODA feed from xml team with the standings and stats and stuff. I need to catch the flu so I can have time. It wouldn't be hard to build and it would be super fun. Maybe some way to integrate it in here. http://www.carrionhockeyleague.com/ is unregistered. so there's that...
  10. human panic predates cable news. We could have the perfect journalistic leaders and still have panic. It's a herd response. Like a stampede.
  11. You are aware that panic is as much of a public health concern as Ebola, right? And that "But the facts!!" is not an effective response to the human panic reaction? I'm not so much pissed that he traveled for risk of transmission. I'm pissed because now we get to listen to 3 more weeks of panic. All he had to do was stay at his place and the public would be like, "What a responsible doctor!" and "See NY is so much better than Texas!" but no, Dr. Lebowski couldn't miss league night.
  12. The number of proven 10+ goal scorers (who should have at least 1 goal by now) on this team that have yet to score is, for me, proof that either Nolan is right, and the guys aren't trying, or he is.the.worst. The complete lack of scoring could also be just luck. Is this team special enough to continue to have a sub 5% shooting percentage all season?
  13. Either Nolan is in on the tank, or he is.the.worst.
  14. They figured that after the last 3 games, they'd need to bring some extra D to even make us notice.
  15. HOLY ###### YOU'RE A ###### DOCTOR WHAT THE ###### ARE YOU DOING GOING ###### BOWLING IN ###### NYC ###### 6 DAYS AFTER YOU ###### GOT BACK FROM ###### TREATING PATIENTS WITH ###### EBOLA. YOU ###### ######. ######.
  16. Oh, absolutely, it's relatively small now (he looks so lonely: https://goo.gl/maps/nx2Kj), but Malaki didn't want 25,000 US troops either. NFW might be a little strong for the Turkey solution, that's all. Kuwait is the bread and butter in the ME. I think they already have about half what you're asking for, and they pretty much do whatever we say.
  17. The clarification on projection makes sense, I apologize for not catching it initially. Turkey currently has the 6th largest American Troop presence in the world outside the combat zones. Behind Japan, Germany, UK, Italy, Bahrain, and Spain. So that's the third largest outside of Europe. We've been there since 1955: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incirlik_Air_Base
  18. I think eliminating offsides, or creating an "offset-offsides" (puck crosses center ice, you may enter the zone immediately) would do the most to open up the game.  :(
  19. This means that the Shia led government in Iraq was never going to be a check against Iran. You wrote upthread that they would have been an important check against Iran. Best case would be they don't actively team up with Iran a la Syria, but they would never serve as a "check". What does a 25,000 man base in Iraq provide that a 25,000 man base in Iraq provide that a 25,000 man base in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, and Turkey doesn't provide? Our positioning in the theater is only marginally improved with ground troops in Basra and Baghdad.
  20. Just a clarification. A Shi'ite majority dominated government in Iraq would not stand as a balance against Iran's ambitions. It just wouldn't ever happen.
  21. If Obama had the ability to fire congressmen and hire new ones.
  22. Will we need a CHL word for Magic Number?
