Looks like the FG would have been the right call with Allen under pressure. Several bad decisions with things on the line.

Well no, not as things currently stand. Right now you could quadruple the staff and it wouldn’t matter. Current rules only allow for very specific scenarios to have a legal path onto the country. Everyone else is excluded. The rules need to change first. Edit to add: Here’s a good test if there is real immigration opportunities in this country. If you were a citizen of, say Poland, or Romania, with your current education and vocation, with no family in the US, could you successfully, legally obtain long term entry into this country. For nearly every member of this forum the answer is no. That’s not real immigration policy.

I like the authors thoughts. Turn immigration into “shall grant” instead of “shall not grant” as a baseline. Perform thorough background checks at application. And let staffing levels determine the pace of immigration. There is a real pathway to entry so the risks of illegal entry are no longer worth it for most. That way we are actually controlling immigration instead of having the immigration theater that we have now.

How did you pull that out of the article? Speed of the process isn't the problem. Total lack of a process for all but the wealthy and certain areas of academics is the problem. Our laws are the cause of illegal entry. If they had a reasonable opportunity to get a visa they wouldn’t take the risk. Not certainty, but opportunity. Right now illegal entry is the ONLY path for 90%+ of potential immigrants. That’s ridiculous.

We've talked about this in the President thread. I think it deserves its own topic. Most of the immigration hawks complain that potential immigrants need to stand in line and wait their turn and emigrate legally. I've countered in the President thread that there is no legal path, so waiting in line is not an option. If you don't give someone a path, a motivated individual will make one. Simple, open immigration IS a conservative concept, and a free market concept. It's the concept this country was founded on, and for most of its existence was practice. I've mentioned before that legal immigration is only really possible for the wealthy and the highly educated. Here's a link to a Reason magazine article describing it in more detail. https://reason.com/2019/12/18/there-is-no-line/

I'd feel alot better about this if, 1. Congress had been involved and 2. We were actually at war with Iran. Right now it feels like state sanctioned assassination, and that ain't cool. This won't help us get out of the middle east.

EDIT Bogosian Requests Trade, Now EROD wants One As Well

Too lazy to look up the numbers..... When did Johansson go cold? Was it before his injury? Did it coincide with Sobotko's injury? -
Because it takes longer than 5 years to upgrade virtually every position in the organization when you can't use trades because your tank players are NHL junk.

You're on ignore now.

It’s foolish to assume we have more time with Eichel. Pro athletes have their careers shortened all too frequently. Long term is a great unknown. We should be trying to win while we know we have Jack.

Did anyone else think that penalty shot call was ticky tacky? I'll take it anyway. Nice to be on the positive side of those.

We should have signed him today to throw hands with Kassian.

Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
Weave replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
A really big chunk of my current angst is due to the unwillingness of the baby boomer generation to call it a career and let the world continue to evolve. That generation is continuing to rule for themselves with no end in sight. Gen X won’t even get a swing at the plate and at this rate neither will Gen Y. -
Hire a hockey prez first.

He's still hung up on his campaign being spied upon even after his own Justice Dept. investigated it and called it a nothing burger? If nothing else, he's consistent. -
One team that has stopped believing in itself (again) against another team that just got its heart ripped out and shown to it, primed for the belief to be gone. At least this one is boys vs. boys. We got a punchers chance here.

Can't imagine it happening as long as the current arena is in habitable shape. If it ever did happen I'd be done with hockey.

Makes you wonder if that is why Miller gets sat down with so much frequency......

EDIT Bogosian Requests Trade, Now EROD wants One As Well
Weave replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Excuses. Plenty of other teams have managed to shed bad contracts. And this was always Erod. He's the same player. Resigning him was a bad read. Especially if he doesn't mesh with the coach's philosophy. -
I think what they are trying to stop is the "call up the tough guy to get even" stuff. Yesterday was right there with when we obtained Scott and the league made it known that they weren't going to tolerate Kaleta and Scott antics to make up for Miller-Lucic. And they threw the book at those two (rather unfairly IMO) with great frequency. The reaction to McCabe seemed eerily similar. That response was very manufactured. It appears to me that the league is OK with organic toughness in play but is going to take a firm stance against manufactured, staged toughness. And last night was the former.
