  1. So, traveling under COVID is weird. I’m in Detroit for business. Traffic is less than normal here. Rest stops on the way had almost noone in them. Food vendors closed so you had to hit the vending machines. Made great time though. The hotel has maybe 10 rooms booked. No breakfast buffet. You have to “order” your continental breakfast choice and eat it in your room. Restaurants here opened up at 50% capacity yesterday and the one I ate dinner in had just a fee people in it, which made me feel alot better. Still not comfortable, but at least it isn’t busy.

    Whoa! Spoiler alert.
  3. Yes. The police are showing that they will do what they are told, regardless of whether what they are doing violates a basic bill of rights tenet.
  4. This is where the 2nd Amendment guys really need to take notice. The police are more than willing to follow orders to shut down 1st Amendment displays. Should the time come, what makes anyone think they won't do the same for 2nd Amendment? Just following orders.....
  5. Tom Rivers is a local treasure. He's published a couple of books about the area. Spent a year working in the fields along side tmigrant workers and published the story.. Good stuff. Close. South and west of Rochester. It's a weird place to drive through. The roads are higher than the fields, so you are looking down on them.
  6. Got the kayak out this morning and did some trolling with it. Holy workout, Batman. I paddled about 3 miles out and 3 miles back. My shoulders are spent. Way more paddling than I normally do. It was a good morning though. The walleyes were hitting early. I put a 19.5” in the freezer and lost 2 others. Caught a channel cat as well. They really pull the kayak around. And the bass turned on once the sun was high. Ive earned my afternoon beverage.
  7. My son worked a few summers in the muck. Onions, tomatoes, potatoes, squash...
  8. I see what you did there.
  9. NS bringing the heat.
  10. Resigned from the emergency response team assignment that they have, not from the BPD. And I say, good. Help them further their decisions and show them the door if they don’t understand why that incident was wrong. This city doesn’t need that kind of mentality on its police force. Some of the complaints are that these guys were suspended for following orders. That Supervisor needs to be gone as well if true.
  11. Somewhere on the Twitterverse I stumbled upon someone cataloging the police brutality events at these protests. They were counting specifically camera documented events. If memory serves it was over 200 like 2 or 3 days ago. The number of attacks by cops on media personnel alone is staggering. If this society is going to move forward, all this will need to result in substantive change to how policing is done. Like I said, the tree is badly diseased.
  12. Any good business person knows that you don’t make future decisions based on sunk costs. The cash the Pegulas sunk into the Sabres won’t matter if it makes business sense to sell the team.
  13. So much for my comments in the now locked thread that at least this police violence wasn’t happening locally. A local news crew caught on film a Buffalo cop violently shove a 75yr old man who was just in the way. The man fell, hit his head on the pavement and the video footage shows blood streaming out of his right ear while he remained motionless in the road. a dozen cops walked right by as he lay there unconscious and bleeding and not a cop stopped to check how badly he was hurt. A 75 yr old man down and badly damaged and not a single public servant stopped to check on him. It took a National Guardsman to check on the man and get medical help. And the news crew filming? They were immediately forced to leave. The BPD official statement was that the old man tripped and was hurt. If it wasn’t for that news crew the truth would never get out. Its really difficult for me to not express myself in the way I want. This sort of thing is EXACTLY why these protests are happening. Its time to cut the tree down and plant a new one. This one is too diseased to save.
  14. Eating at a quiet outdoor restaurant is awesome. Did a drive by to see if they were busy. Only a handful of patrons so........ it feels like home.
  15. Stop feeding them or get a Jack Russel Terrier.
  16. I wonder if the league trend in how powerplays operate changed last season and our penalty kill scheme just wasn’t well suited to it?
  17. A gun store is one of the very few exceptions I'll make to the idea that killing someone to protect property is wrong.
  18. So much has occurred. I don’t really know what happened in Philly.
  19. Well, ironically, the 2nd Amendment was written to fight the very type of actions Trump announced today, but I doubt many 2nd Amendment supporters will be willing to use it to protect against the actual tyranny being threatened.
  20. You weren’t asking me, but I think the end of a democratic United States is well within sight. Between corporate money determining policy (and candidates) and an increasingly authoritarian government that has lost its checks and balances, I think we are 75% of the way there.
  21. If you haven’t seen the videos and pictures of the journalists who have been injured by police actions, you should seek them out. There are many videos that plainly show police targeting people with visible press credentials and shooting them with rubber bullets, pepper pellets, and tear gas and flash bang Grenades. There is clear evidence that the press is being targeted and journalists are getting injured. One lost her eye to a rubber bullet over the weekend. Disgusting behavior that has no justification.
  22. Taken from Twitter: Message from Cleveland police tonight: “No media is allowed downtown unless they are inside their place of business. Period.” @CLEpolice The police are out of control. They’ve shot at and arrested credentialed media and press. They’ve been complicit in some of the violence. The veil is off and they are having a tantrum now. And in riot gear they can do it anonymously. This behavior is exactly why there is rioting to begin with. Thank God we aren’t seeing this crap locally.
  23. Editorial bias.
  24. A tanker truck just drove into a crowd of protesters in Minneapolis on a highway that was supposedly closed for at least 45 minutes. No word on injuries yet.
