Oh, this is a traditional rebuild. We’re jettisoning the current core and anointing a new one. It doesn't get any more rebuild than that. The Darcy sell off was a tank, a very specific type of rebuild. We won’t know if this is a tank until the season unfolds. If winning is met with more selling, we’ll know we are tanking.

Robbery and assault are dissimilar crimes but I don’t see a moral distance between those either. I see what happened to those 2 girls as equally reprehensible. Sammuelsson blossoms into a rock in 2nd pairing role and anchors the PK. Boston and Montreal slide back badly and Ottawa isn’t quite ready for primetime. The Sabres start fast out of the gate and maintain a Deluca .500 pace to the trade deadline. KA sees what we have and we are buyers at the deadline. The team falters down the stretch but the new vets and hot start are enough to sneak them i to the last playoff spot. They are crushed in 4 games by FLA but the learnings are valuable.

@GASabresIUFANIn this scenario bad contracts are not a negative, with 2 caveats, 1. Term is relatively short and 2. They have gas in the tank. With those 2 caveats “bad contracts” represent veteran players to take the pressure and teach the kids to be good pros. Those two things are needed regsrdless of contract size and will be critical to rebuild success anyway.

I think Z is very much capable of handling the pressure of that role. He won’t wilt. But that line will not look good on a lot of nights.

I think we will miss Risto and it will show in games this season vs. last 1/3 of last season. No Jack so that variable is eliminated. Although Sam will definitely be missed as well.

Yeah, I know it was a list of what’s currently available. The criticism of that list isn’t a criticism of you. It is what it is. I really hope the team recognizes the deficiencies this time and corrects them before another core is wasted.

That was how I took it back then, and said so in this forum. I’ve refrained from calling him a cancer or bad character guy because there is no real evidence of it, but my gut tells me Jack isn’t the right leader for this team, and never was. Maybe someday in the future he had his epiphany and becomes a leader. He probably needs to be in a locker room where he’s not the default alpha male to experience that epiphany.

Absolutely. They should be good enough to make the roster based on performance and good enough to gain respect. The second part was most def missing post tank.

I think Jack needed a couple of players with the game and attitude to command his respect. Gionta wasnt enough. Jack is/was a very headstrong guy IMO. We didn’t have the right vets in here to get through Jacks head. Cozen, Mitts, etc do not appear to be cut from the same cloth as Jack. I’d bet Gio would have made a good mentor for this group. The one thing missing from the group Doohickie lists is success. We still need to bring in 2-3 vets that are playoff veterans and know what sacrifices are needed so they can show the kids how to get to that next level.
