Played well but his size and lack of chemistry was a killer for him. Game 2 & 3 were his games. Game 2 he looked green, lots of energy but little to show for it and ran into Hershey’s defensive tactics. Game 3 he looked a bit better as he was paired with Kulich and Weisbach. Set up one the Amerks with a point blank chance as well as he showed his dynamic offensive vision. Problem was that he usually was just not strong enough to fight off Hershey checkers who would grab him to prevent his natural shiftiness and then smother him. In a strange way he may of looked better in an NHL game just due to the less literal clutching and grabbing involved.

I feel many of the offers are far too short sighted, that’s what I mean by rentals. You don’t trade high end assets for a singular season use player unless you are making a Cup run or feel confident in signing the player. There is just far too much risk for the potential reward we desire. For example we haven’t had a single goalie stay healthy throughout the season in at least 6 years now. If Hellebuyck gets seriously hurt, then those assets literally are burned up into nothingness and additional assets would need to be used to fill the gaping goaltending hole. If he has a down year because he starting with a completely different team, we lose. Quite literally the only way the assets aren’t wasted or set to haunt us well into the future is if he comes to Buffalo, plays great, and takes us into a solid playoff appearance. Barring a reasonable extension, we have a very small target we have to hit in order to not look like fools around the league. Supposedly TSN we’re the ones who mentioned Hellebuyck is looking for Bob like money.

You can't win a rental without winning the Cup I'm unwilling to give Hellebuyck 8x10mil and trade 2/3 1sts in value to get him I'd rather just sign a UFA goalie and hope Levi explodes onto the scene than trade 13OA, UPL, Savoie/Kulich for Hellebuyck who will expect to either become a UFA or an absurd extension that doesn't work from a cap or year situation.

MLSE has a history of meddling and thus it creates fears of further meddling -
Regardless the rumors of interest does give me the thought that UPL will be traded. Essentially Adams won't want to put a rock wall in front of Levi; he'll desire a way to make Levi the 1B if he plays well enough. Any high end goalie or at minimum a consistent vet would put that at risk. He can waive Comrie without much fear, Levi underperforming is waiver exempt whereas UPL no longer is. Effectively I see practically no chance UPL is here if the Sabres acquire any other goalie since they won't want to just lose UPL on waivers for free or force a worthy Levi of staying in Rochester.

In the end I’ve watched us get burned far too many times to trust trading so much for a goalie for a singular season. It also partially stems from how good this particular draft is and that I don’t want to just throw away a top 15 pick for a rental. He could be the greatest rental of all time but barring a Cup win we almost suredly lose the trade over time. I guess the other option would be to try and get another 1st in a trade up and offer that 20’s pick or play with the Jets to get pick 18 back.

I’d offer 13, UPL, and Kisakov for Saros because he has 2 years left

Based on your suspicions however he wouldn't be worth the trade to begin with however. In my opinion while @Thorny is correct we have the prospect depth to survive a trade; that doesn't particularly make me willing to use that depth on a 1 year hail Mary who based on your readings would suffer significant regression due to Buffalo's style versus Winnipeg's. Additionally is the issue of a new contract. I don't want a Bob contract whereas we have a goalie who is overpaid by nearly 5mil a year and has been mediocre at best besides this year's playoff run. Plus he'll be looking for year we really have no need to give out. Even slow rolling Levi's starting role for 3 seasons would equate to a mere 2 year extension. Anything longer and we are more or less pushing Levi out of Buffalo. I would rather just sign a stop gap than pay a king's ransom to either have a rental for a season or a long term increasingly headache inducing contract. Goalies are just far too fickle of a resource to devote such large amounts of assets to potentially get a single year of above average goaltending.

Well that's my max to be frank, if NJ wants to top it then so be it.

This would be my counter Hellebuyck & DeMelo and WPG's 2023 1st (18OA) for BUF's 2023 1st (13OA), LA's 2023 3rd, Kisakov, UPL and BUF's 2024 2nd with the condition of becoming the 2024 1st if we make the playoffs.

I’d have reservations about trading so much for 1 year of Helle. Honestly if he had 1 or 2 more years on his deal or a short extension I’d be ready to pick him up from the airport.

Tampa created a market and has grown it over the years. For unknown reasons, the Bucs and Lightning have had great success with creating a fervent fan base whereas the Rays have always been the ugly step child of the group. Florida, like other Miami teams, have rarely had more than masses of fair weather fans. If the team is bad, they just don’t care. If they are good, it’s hit and miss with ticket sales since many transplants already have a team they follow. You see that with the Panthers, Dolphins, Marlins. The Heat, I’d guess have a better fan base but I’m not as well versed with NBA.

The eyebrow raiser is that supposedly Treveling’s dad is a part of MLSE already -
Why can’t we catch a break with players like this? Dumping a 28 goal scorer should fetch adequate value. It angers me we may either be forced to just keep him or actively lose a trade just to open a roster spot

Oh I agree KA isn’t dying on the hill of his quote; I just think Adams may not be interested in bringing back a guy who may of bailed on him. If it was truly a purely business situation it’s different; but if Adams thought he was signed and Ullmark played him along then I doubt he’d even give it a thought.

If he wins one in a few years I’ll be fine, just don’t want him to win so close to his trade akin to ROR

Someone needs to siphon their gas in the intermission or knee Eichel so his ugly mug can’t win the Cup
