  1. I think it really depends on a combination of POV and how entrenched one is in hockey as a whole. If you are a Sabres fan from North Carolina who never lived in Buffalo; your views would differ from a hockey enthusiast from Buffalo. You may both love the team equally; but one would also tie external factors in with the team where as the non-local may not. If Toronto media throws shade at Buffalo(the city and team) a native Floridan won’t be up in arms where as Buffalonians likely would be. I guess a perfect example would be my love of the San Francisco Giants. I personally feel the city is a liberal train wreck but that holds no influence over my love for the team. If media goes after the team/city, I don’t have enough “skin” in the game to become angered by it. Yet purely attacks against the franchise an get my temperature up
  2. I think it has more to do with frequency, you can write off one game as your team sleepwalking. You can’t honestly get me to believe that Toronto decides to only let it’s guard down against the Sabres 3 separate times in a month. We had their number this year akin to how Detroit had ours
  3. Great game Always enjoy raking the leaves Power looked like an NHL regular; eventually he'll get up to speed and start making plays on his own but for now it is perfectly reasonable to just blend in and subtlety help the team. Dahlin hates the Leafs as much as we do it seems.
  4. According to Okposo he’s a tree
  5. Joy I do certainly see Levi signing in the future regardless; he has multiple friends here and has made a point to interact with a Sabres podcast, watch games with the GM and seems very genuine about how good he feels about the Sabres due to their trading for him.
  6. Doubt it means much to be honest. If anything it may make a LHD vet defender possible but I doubt they want to go into next year with Jokiharju as their elder statesman on defense. Fitz strikes me as a AAAA player or 7/8 guy. He’s a perfect gritty filler player but nowhere good enough to be a game in game out Top 6.
  7. That's still insane and no team would ever receive that much for their backup no matter how high end their potential is (as long as they already have a good starter) Also I'd never trade that much to get a goalie (also why are you talking about Shesterkin when they aren't trading him?) In my opinion we should throw 2x8mil at Kuemper. which is solid overpayment and gives him the ability to sign somewhere again at 33. We can't go any longer in term at that cap hit though. Colorado just resigned Francois so I'd guess Kuemper is likely a goner. I have zero interest in Campbell based on what his ask would be and how little actual solid play he has under his name. (He has less then 35 games good games to his name.) Koskinen is even worse than what we have already; I'll resign Anderson for 2 years before Koskinen Husso would be in a similar spot to Kuemper in a 2x7/8mil contract offer Binnington is a moody trainwreck so no thanks Reimer would be a good temporary stopgap. Georgiev seems like a bit of headcase Samsonov has yet to impress me.
  8. Lol, so in your opinion KA literally has 0 way of keeping his job barring him giving so much money or assets that it in of itself is a firable offense.
  9. Guess he was waiting to get a picture edited with him standing in front of Seattle
  10. He just joined the team and they want to give him a chance to settle in a bit.
  11. Let me just pose this situation Unlike skaters, goalies take more time and tend to spend more time in the minors. If I’m a college goalie, why leave college? There are 64 starters/backups in the NHL, you might get a few fill-in starts but even then most GMs are hesitant to send up a young goalie. As such you are most likely in the AHL, or worse, the ECHL. In both cases you make about 50k to 70k per year on your ELC. Unless you literally have an NHL spot assured; why would you bother? You are getting college mostly if not all paid for while your there. The most likely amount of money you pass over is about 210k over 3 years but in return you get a Bachelors degree to fallback on, your draft team will likely still want you but if you wait you could even choose your destination. The biggest risk you take is health and your skill dropping off; both of which, few college age kids are going to be fearful of. I’d assume for most that College hockey is far more fun than AHL hockey in regards to the off-ice situation. And with the ongoing trend of instant-returns/pleasure being a must have; it’s hard for a Minor League professional team to compete with a college atmosphere and it’s perks.
  12. No they don’t have to wait 2 years to play anywhere, they would just be exclusive rights to their draft team until 2 years after their final college game. If you desire to play in the NHL and get an education; you shouldn’t also get to screw your draft team and go anywhere you want. Also no, they should have zero right to go wherever they want barring their draft team being unwilling to sign him. There shouldn’t be a scenario in which an athlete has the opportunity to get a full ride education and pick their team in the same move. Also with the NCAA loosening some income related things in regards to players, and a player getting a full scholarship; why wouldn’t they just stay in college? You get just about the same money from playing in the AHL as most full scholarship years equate to. Unless you are a sure NHLer, there’s little reason to depart school as you only gain from it.
  13. Quinn and Peterka
  14. Wild game in Belleville, 6-1 Amerks late 2nd. Peterka 2g,2a Quinn 2g,2a 4/5 on the PP
  15. That's kind of the idea; it removes the legitimate reason of staying in school for education as a way to stand up your draft team.
  16. The rule should be that you are retained 2 years past your final college game. So if a player truly is gung-ho about his education then he can finish his degree without it hurting the team investing time and money into his development
  17. There was small banter he might stay one more year but I never put much credence to it.
  18. Not a huge fan of Dumba due to his contract situation Hey, now I'd be all for it. Now there are openings. Way too long, 2 years is the max you can give with an absurd money number (ex: 8mil) 4 years is the max you can give with a normal contract number (ex: 5mil) You have to make it possible that if UPL takes off, that we aren't in a traffic jam of goalies while trying to get Levi and maybe Portillo next year. We have to maintain an appearance of some kind of possibility of them making it. Additionally, I'd target the best 2 defensive dmen you can find for Rochester. They are practically a cartoonish version of the Leafs where they only win via outscoring their own mistakes
  19. The difference is that a team can’t sign a player and leave them in college. They can sign and leave a player in any of the leagues.
  20. If they closed the ridiculous loophole that allows them to leave it would be a different story. If you are drafted into the NHL, your rights should stay with that team in perpetuity if no ELC is signed. If you are undrafted that’s different but a drafted player should under no circumstance be able to escape their draft team’s rights
  21. I'm honestly surprised with how wide open the goaltending position is here why he would just come here. But if he decides he doesn't want to be a Sabre than he may as well just blow out his knee..... It's this reason I can't stand college players and their BS
  22. Dahlin's flub wasn't a bad play just a badly executed one that likely is the result of exhaustion. Then literally everything that could go wrong goes wrong with Huberdeau falling thus blocking Skinner, Jokiharju coming high and inadvertently cutting off Dahlin who loses his footing and can't get back to Bennett. The Sabres deserved better, they are fighting like cornered rats though so I like seeing that. I liked seeing Tuch doing what he could to get Dahlin to get away from Bennett at the end.
