  1. Gensler's show is the best in the city....by far. Way better than the garbage on GR. I only wish they'd boost the signal strength.
  2. Did I read that right @nhl.com? 12 shots? omg....wow
  3. I hate to say it but....series over. If NY would have stolen it last night we might end up having something. LA is too strong, too deep, and too fluid in their game to be beat. Wave after wave of forechecking and a gap control that will tighten up as the series goes on by a terrific D. Oh, if Quick gets focused for a full 60, it's over in 5.
  4. I could bore you with stories about delivering the Courier Express to Bill Hajt or finally being brave enough to knock on Gilbert's door but this tale is way more fun. Mid 90's. Rob Ray's bar "Rayzors" on Elmwood. The place used to hold Sega NHL 94 tournaments on maybe Tuesday nights. I think the winner got a $25 bar tab. Anyway, this event only lasted a few months and my friend Nate and I would try to make it every week. The last one was epic. Some backstory. Nate and I were absolute killers at this game. We tormented his brother and any of his friends that were unfortunate enough to pick up the controller. Old school a** kickings, complete with high-volume sh*t talking the whole game long. We were the kind of players you wanted to punch after the 1st period. When we couldn't find anyone else to play, four nights a week we'd buy a case of Molson Ice and just play each other until 5am. Seven game series, full seasons, whatever. Both our games were sharp as a knife. On this night at Rayzors, the tourny was one man short. Since Rob was in the bar, someone convinced him that he should sit in. The stipulation was that if you drew Rob, he would be the Sabres (and put himself in on the LaFontaine-Mogilny line) and you had to be Ottawa. If you remember the game, the Sens were the absolute worst team to play with ratings wise. This alone was too funny, but when he drew my buddy Nate....it got funnier. A quick handshake between the two and the puck drops. 15 seconds in and Nate is up 1-0. He stands up after he scores "WWHHOOO! That's right! All night long." A side note- we were pretty hammered by this point lol. 20 seconds later, 2-0. Rob is now gripping the controller and throwing his arms up in the air. Then Nate runs LaFontaine and injures him for the game. Howling laughter by Nate follows. 3-0. 4-0. Then Mogilny is crushed along the boards, ending his game. More laughter by Nate. He turns to Rob and says "I'm taking you out next." Try he does...running Ray at every chance. Now, Rob is beyond pissed. Rob leans in and says "stop it, you're humiliating me." No dice. Nate does call off the dogs but wins 12-0. Nate offers to buy Rob a beer after but Rayzor wasn't having any of it. When one of his buddies threw a shoulder into Nate later at the bar, I suggested we go. You can't leave until the tourny is done however. I face Nate in the finals and beat him 3-2 in OT with Rayzors boys cheering me on lol. They bought me a few beers and made it clear that in any other place, they would kick the living hell out of my buddy. Ah, memories. We still laugh about this to this day.
  5. Ouch! What a heartbreaker. You can't claim the Gold with any right when you blow a 2 goal lead w/ 3 and change left. Poor girls...this will sting forever.
  6. Canada starting to take it the US w/ a 2-1 lead in the 3rd.
  7. My God, US ladies crushed the Swiss 9-0. it seemed like a 60 min PP. The showdown with Canada will be epic. Those girls do NOT like each other lol.
  8. The French figure skater Nathalie Pechalat is beyond anything I've ever seen :) For the first time, I think I'm truly in love.
  9. Exactly. Sitting at friend Dave's house with a frig full of Heinekens, pile of wings from Duff's, and the DTV synched to RJ's call. During the 2nd intermission we walked out to the garage for a bit of a smoke (NO traffic on the street) and just talked quietly. No whooping it up about how we were 20 minutes away from the finals. He asked "Well, what do you think?" All I could say is they cant take a penalty early. 3rd starts....over the glass. I could hear Don Cherry in my head saying that season that this new rule would cost someone the Cup (He still refers to this game to this day) and I just shook my head and opened another beer. I knew what was coming as most of us did. I did get sympathy sex when I got home. Bonus points: name the D pairings w/out looking them up.
  10. Should have taken Sully out to lunch lol.....now that would have been a fun read.
  11. Wow. Eleven, I lurk more than I post and I do admire your concise, insightful, and sometimes witty revelations about the Sabres plight. But, when it comes to quality radio we can't be more far apart. The morning show (w/ "golly gee" has been Howard and his lame sidekick) is like a nails on a chalk board. Bulldog? Are you serious to think that that marble-mouthed baffoonish oaf offers anything besides stumbling over himself with the most obvious of opinions? The updates suck and the station never...ever breaks any news. If your "ok w/ what we got" in GR.....you've been hanging around Darcy too long.
  12. Just another example of just how bad GR is. I really don't know how you guys/girls continue to listen. Stopped months ago. Do the same....ull be better for it.
  13. Tanev has become one of the best young D in the league. He does everything well and just so polished for his age. The Vancouver brass would catch hell if he was dealt. Nice thought though.
  14. Another raucous MTL/BOS affair. Nice to watch hockey w/ some passion. I hope these two meet in the playoffs.
  15. It sounds like you did everything you could. Hope the kid gets the help/situation he needs.
  16. So, this uninspired, lazy, backbiting, excuse for an NHL team is going to skate into a raucous Belle Centre tonight and hope for a win? Like wood into a woodchipper.
  17. God, we really are a beaten down bunch. "Thank you Sabres!"
  18. I have to put in a word for the 95-96 team. I loved that year. Yeah, we were no where near a good team, but after years of watching soft play I loved the fact that if they couldn't beat you on the scoreboard they'd beat you with their fists. Ray, May, Barnaby, Boughner, Hughes, Muni. They'd smack you in the face if they sensed the slightest transgression. Refreshing.
  19. The fans, Miller, Ott, Kaleta.
  20. I just love the way this team plays. Every inch of ice is contested. Keep rolling boys. Doo doo da doo :)
  21. Ay! That hurts to watch. Here's hoping he's ok.
