Panthers-Islanders start their series with 3 games in 4 nights. Fantastic scheduling........ I hope there is a good reason for it. Not like there's anything going on at the BB&T Center that needs to be worked around.

True, +/- is a pretty useless stat in most instances. If you're comparing three players in the draft, as a GM, and are undecided, you don't just go with the one with the best +/-. But, if you're comparing similar players on the same team playing a majority of the same games together, it definitely can be a relevant stat. For instance, of the Panthers top 9 in points the 2nd worst +/- player is Trochek who is a +15. Then there is Bjugstad who is the worst of that bunch at a -8. All one needs to do is watch to determine that he is the biggest defensive liability of the top forwards, the +/- numbers confirm that.
-
Not necessarily, if used with relevant comparisons.
-
It's true. At least it was very recently.

Here is the +/- of the top 14 scorers for Rochester. -18 -16 -3 -23 -17 -20 -10 -15 -3 -6 -18 -20 -8 Then there's Carrier who ended up a +14. I'm not big on +/- stats in certain situations, but that's significant.

Florida will never get any credit no matter what they do, and that's OK. Not yet, if the Islanders beat Philly tonight they slide up to play the Pens and the Panthers play the Rangers.

Did Goober really start with Gorges-Risto-O'Reilly?

Did Leenus go to play the puck behind the net and the puck came off the boards funny, or did he just wait until the last second to come out and play a puck that he shouldn't have?
-
That's a fair assessment.
-
I understand the Islanders are probably playing slow because they'd rather not face the Pens in the 1st round (if anybody has watched the Panthers, that might not be a good idea), but is this team really a playoff team? I am so unimpressed right now.

In all fairness, I think Matty Mo's played fairly well the last 10-15 games. As of now his salary isn't a cap issue, I think he'll be around next year and we'll see a moderate improvement. No sense in buying him out for next year.

If you ask me , there are too many ceremonies as it is. Too much circus show, not enough entertainment from the product on the ice. If the league was as entertaining as it was 10-15 years ago there wouldn't be a need for a side show. But, nobody asked me.

So it's down to Boston and Philly who gets the wildcard. Detroit really doesn't deserve to go. Not that the Bruins stood a chance of winning, but if you're down 4-1 with 8+ minutes left and you go on the power play......... it's probably a bad time to pull your goalie for a 6th attacker when the opposing team doesn't have to worry about icing the puck. Maybe desperate times call for desperate measures.......... I don't know.

Interesting. Usually on days I don't run a 5k I'll do about a half hour of high incline walks and then finish off with 8-10 quarter mile sprints. But I've never timed that part of it. Maybe I'll give it a shot today and see how it turns out.
-
Did you use intervals to try and get a better 5k time, or just to mix it up a little? I've gotten my 5k times into the 24 minute range but that's with a steady pace.

NHL Network is considered a national network just like NBC Sports. If there's a game on NBC it's not shown on GameCenter (NHL.TV) either. There is nothing the team can do. Unfortunately NHLN isn't as widely available as NBC. I'm sure they can change their guidelines during the offseason, but they can't make a one game exception. I am just as pissed about it but I put full blame on Napoleon.

You said to take away November, and not October. And then proceed to tell me his save percentage minus November. Why would you choose a time frame and omit one month in between? It's one thing to focus on a particular time frame because something changed at some point. (i.e. record since the all-star game, goals in the last two months............) it's another to mention somebody's save percentage from the start of the season minus a month in between. Who would do that? And my bad, between going back and forth between Lehner and Johnson, I read your post as Lehner being 15th, not Johnson. ;)

If a team has won 9 of 11 games, do you skip those 2 losses and say they've won 9 straight? Why would you skip November and not October? And no, he wouldn't be 15th on that list because he wouldn't be on that list. I agree, it was kind of weak to go playing these guys when a win should have been the main focus. But the league is the one at fault for not airing the game. If the NHL is going to have its own channel, they need to make it accessible to those that pay to watch hockey. Not every carrier offers the NHL Network.

No, I don't think it's fair to label Lehner as injury prone yet. I like Lehner, a lot. I like his attitude and the image he brings to the ice. At this point though I don't think it's worth the risk to find out if he's injury prone or not. Teams that rely solely on a high dollar goaltender put themselves at significant risk if he happens to get hurt. Teams that rely on a 1A and 1B........ or a starter that is willing to split duty 50-30+/- is the way to go. Lehner isn't going anywhere any time soon and I don't think he expects to play 60 games yet. Johnson this year has proven himself to be dependable starter. There is no reason he can't be signed (if he wants to be here of course) for 2-3 years and let him and Lehner split duty. If Lehner can stay healthy then he'll be the one going forward in a year or two.

Don't patronize me, I know damn well what a straw man argument is. It still doesn't negate the fact you're arguing for the sake of arguing. You didn't like the fact that I omitted the month of October. So I put it back and here you are, arguing with no point in sight. Get back to me when you have one, you're become repetitive.

What I think the Sabres should do, considering next year might possibly be a year they could contend for a playoff spot, is to go with the college kid with one game experience, the Swede that can't win a game in the minors, the headcase that can't stay healthy for 15 games, and the one that sees double. After all, Johnson is just average, with a winning record on a non-playoff team, pushing 30. We all know what happens to goaltenders once they hit 30. They start going downhill, ain't the right Lou?
