  1. On a somewhat related note, Scotty Bowman was on WGR last week for a pretty long and enjoyable interview. It's in the audio vault if anyone is so inclined.
  2. Tommy B. and Cloutier. I loved Miller but I'm generally inclined towards prior generation goalies, who didn't get to wear huge brick walls as their pads.
  3. Very good, and long, article by TBN alumnus Tyler Dunne on Sammy Watkins: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2889029-what-sammy-watkins-believes Holy mackerel is Watkins a space cadet. He seems like a decent guy though -- although it was clearly another idiotic move by Doug Whaley to sell the farm to get him, as Watkins was nowhere near ready to play a leading role on an NFL team when he was younger.
  4. Korab, Teppo and Risto.
  5. That was great. I hope we get Gaethje vs Khabib soon.
  6. Why do you think Woody is wrong that the numbers are going to be the same? On what basis is this "patently false?" And in response to Liger's "several million", Woody said that the numbers are going to be the same either way -- not that re-opening would increase the numbers by several million, or that he was fine with a differential of that magnitude. As for "ham-fisted" -- you've now insulted 2 posters. Why? Because they disagree with you on something?
  7. But @Wyldnwoody44 didn't say that. He said this: In other words: the point of social distancing isn't to prevent people from getting the virus, it's to prevent too many people from getting it at once and thus overwhelming the HC system. The HC system is far less taxed at present than was expected to be the case, even when social distancing is factored in. If we are at the point where re-opening would not overtax the HC system -- and no one knows the answer on that, but we'll find out pretty soon as most states are re-opening -- then keeping social distancing in effect will not reduce the total number of deaths from the virus. In the meantime, you've insulted someone who was working brutal hours on the front lines against this virus, was highly stressed out and was here looking for some friendship and support.
  8. McAdoo was an NBA MVP and was better than PLF, although not at the same historic level as Dominik, Bruce or OJ. Barry Sanders was the only RB I've seen that was in the same ballpark as OJ -- and I say that even though Thurman is my all-time favorite Bill. OJ was probably about as dominant as Dominik -- in both cases their teams were built around them.
  9. I too was a big fan of Bruce's but he was certainly a bit more...high maintenance than McKee. To be fair, he was also a better and more dominant player.
  10. Great hockey documentary. Everyone in this thread would definitely enjoy it.
  11. The team already has Dahlin or Howie on the top PP. Boxy could carry it and pass it a little, had a very good slapper and was the absolute worst defenseman in the D zone that has ever dressed regularly for the Sabres. Spacek wasn't great but was pretty solid on both ends. McKee is one of my all-time favorite Sabres.
  12. Instant karma's gonna get you...
  13. Gentlemen. Soupy had 2.5 good seasons for the Sabres, before which he was a train wreck in the D zone (substantially worse than Howie) and back-and-forth from Rochester, and after which he was traded at the deadline by the LQ/OSP axis of evil. Howie was soft and not much of a defender but still. He was electrifying and he was highly productive for 8 solid years. The Sabres have never had anyone come close to producing offense from the blueline the way Howie did (although Dahlin hopefully will get there). And as I've said before, he was the 2nd-most-exciting Sabre carrying the puck on the rush of all time, although Eichel is starting to make a run at that spot. This shouldn't be controversial.
  14. My initial and immediate reaction was Ovechkin. But then I started to think about the question as who would I draft first if I were building a team. In that context, it's pretty hard not to pick a #1 center, which would be Federov or Datsyuk. I'd probably go with Federov, but certainly YMMV.
  15. Why don't we just fervently hope for Sabres vs Leafs in a weird 2-out-of-3 playoff series and not worry just yet about a Cup with an asterisk.
  16. Don't mind my tweaks!
  17. So -- nothing in the article about tensions or disagreements between RK and JB? Just an observation that JB wants to the team to enter with possession, and the team in fact played more of a dump and chase game? What a BS clickbait move by the writer. Credibility diminished.
  18. Just for poops and giggles—if there were a serious disagreement that became a power struggle, who would TP be inclined to back? If it’s game of thrones rules, I think Krueger would win. But it’s also fairly likely that they both would get canned or that they each would be told they can resign if they want but otherwise they need to work it out. But this increases the likelihood that next year we have RK and no JB.
  19. You just made the death list buddy.
  20. Having now read the article, I will say that Yardon's assumption that Larsson will get $3.1MM x 4 years is nuts. And I agree with those upthread who said that Yardon overestimated Reino's new deal and others. I also don't agree with this: Those are a bunch of JAGs who are easily replaceable and not worth much more than NHL minimum. Overall, it seemed like Yardon -- who I think is reasonably knowledgeable about the team -- had an idea for a take and tried to bend the facts to suit his position. And I did agree with this, which was his main point, although IMHO most of the rest of the article well overstated it:
  21. Happy anniversary (close, anyway) to this thread! Here's something from Yardon's salary cap piece today in the Athletic: Maybe the Sabres get lucky here and this guy turns out to be a contributor.
  22. Interesting. Has anyone formulated an opinion about Chad D., especially whether he has good inside info? I've read some of his stuff but not enough to come to any conclusions.
  23. This thread is a humiliating setback for @freester.
  24. But I thought JB had gotten the Sabres out of cap hell and was now playing 3-dimensional cap chess while his peers were playing checkers? Again: anyone here could've served as GM, spent to the cap and produced the crappy results that JB has delivered.
  25. Well, "Airplane" is a classic film, but I'm not sure it's fair to expect everyone to know the red zone/white zone theory based on this clip.
