Wouldn't that make Stevie more valuable? Sidney's injury is no indication of how Stevie would perform. I guess it could give you pause, but Stevie's now put up great numbers for 2 years. What I was pointing out is that the $9.4M for a franchise tag isn't that much of an overpayment when lesser players are making $8M a year on long term deals.

Sidney Rice got 5 years $41M this past offseason, Stevie's on his way to another 1000 yard season and a great TD output (last year 10 TDs), better & more consistent than Sidney's output at the time of his contract & Stevie doesn't have a future hall of famer throwing to him. Vincent Jackson has played this past season under the franchise tag from the Chargers with similar output to that of Stevie. You pay the extra money because it's a short term deal (1 year). This gives you time to work out something long term.

I doubt he'd be willing to talk extension this close to the end of season, he might as well wait and see what he's worth on the open market. The only play the Bills may have would be to use their franchise tag on him which, with the changes to the calculation from the new cba, would be around $9M on a one year deal according to John Clayton.

I think quality is a stretch, this is an 8 year vet with one 1000 yard season and a history of work ethic issues. Also, I think they're not throwing the ball downfield because they're playing to their strengths. Fitz is not a QB who can consistantly accurately throw the ball downfield.

He's coming off a torn ACL in April and according to he and his agent won't be ready until November (which doesn't seem realistic), which is around the time that Donald Jones is expected to be back.

My guess is he was making a faux argument that the clock should not run, or that the play shouldn't be reviewed, but knew the whole time he was going to have to use a timeout. All he'd say in his postgame presser is that he was calling a timeout. The argument came before the penalty on Wilfork for being a dirty SOB.
