  1. What a fun game from Erod. He’s been in the soup all night. Old school, blue collar, mumbo jumbo, days gone by, etc ... I love nights like this.
  2. What a beauty this one’s been. Good game, too.
  3. I will then celebrate my astute grasp of the obvious and add banality to the list of my sins!
  4. I’m not sure if you’re teasing me with sarcasm, or not! In any event, I see you’re reminded of John Lennon. I like Lennon; I like the Beatles; I LOATHE that song! When you were reminded of it by me, you made me think. I threw up a little in my mouth. Had I made Lennon’s same point? ‘Twas not my intent. I’ve recovered. My argument with John is that he imagines a peace born in the elimination of ideas, values and passions. Nothing to kill or die for, as he describes. This lobotomized, sanitized, approach to living makes me sad. I hope my post imagined a peace born not in the elimination of ideas worthy of killing or dieing for. Instead, I look forward to those oh, so human, passionate debates absent the confusion, obfuscation and perversion of race and ethnicity. Lastly, and obviously, race and ethnicity can be discussed. So can ideals, values, morals, habits and traditions. Lumping them together and simplifying is, just ....well, you decide.
  5. History’s taught us nothing if it’s not taught us that impugning whole genders, races and ethnicities isn’t the clearest thinking, no matter the rationale. This is true even when the rationale, such that it is, co-mingles genes with status to avoid what would otherwise be racist, or some other “ist”. What a nifty way to go after groups through the back door! A famous political philosopher did a similar thing some 80 plus years ago. He, too, built a philosophy around power and privilege as he felt it accrued to races and ethnicities. Hardly a likeable fellow, he was nonetheless transparent. The most revealing sentence is the last. The Jews have shown real genius in profiting by politics. This capitalistic people, which was brought into existence by the unscrupulous exploitation of men, has understood how to get the leadership of the Fourth Estate into its own hands; and by acting both on the Right and on the Left it has its apostles in both camps. On the Right the Jew does his best to encourage all the evils there are to such an extent that the man of the people, poor devil, will be exasperated as much as possible— greed of money, unscrupulousness, hard- heartedness, abominable snobbishness. More and more Jews have wormed their way into our upper-class families; and the consequence has been that the ruling class has been alienated from its own people. Our fight is with money. Work alone will help us, not money. We must smash interest slavery. Our fight is with the races that represent money. Fiddle with those two quotes. Replace “Jews” with Christian, white, or male. Replace “profit by politics”, “exploitation”, or “money” with their synonyms power and privilege. See if you don’t get a post that fits nicely into this and other threads. Now, back to pinching bottoms!
  6. In light of the quality start thoughter and the resulting participants and points of view, I’d say start as many threads as you can.
  7. Edit to add, and back to the root. I’m glad the people (PSE) have no tolerance for a people (Boss) mistreating a people (Employee).
  8. I look forward to the day when increasingly common travel and interaction results in non-distinguishable race and ethnicity. Oh, the glorious silence. Of course, we’ll still have politics and religion, but those discussions will be distilled to core ideas. I’m not sure where gender’s going. When the time comes, we’ll be stuck with “humans do human stuff”. In itself, that will be meaty and worthy. Just imagine, debate outside the wild pendulum and great divide of ascribed privilege and victimhood. I surrender “European” and “white”. I’m holding on to “Christian” and “male”.
  9. I learned the game. Unfortunately, I also grew into my body ...
  10. Now, I’m no expert, but I read “can’t set up or post stick” in the crease. I’m admittedly a homer. There are regularly IIHF goals where a skate is going through the crease or in the crease. I’m sure you’re right as judgment is applied. Thanks .. Rule 534 – Interference – If an attacking player deliberately stands in the goal crease, without interfering with the goalkeeper, the referee shall stop the play and the ensuing face-off shall take place at the nearest face-off spot in the neutral zone.
  11. Damn .... I am under informed! I loved it.
  12. I believe auto-correcting rocket science to rocket appliances will be the best part of the evening ...
  13. Jack Edwards is still calling John Scott a goon who had no right to go after a hockey player like Shawn Thornton.
  14. I don’t understand that goal being waived off ... it’d be great to get an explanation.
  15. First the Soviets, er, Russians, and then the Finns for the Gold? I am remembering a Sunday morning nearly 40 years ago ...
  16. I like Rob Ray. I cheered for him for years. He’s a top 30 alumnus, in my estimation, of this fifty year old passion of mine. I know exactly who he means when he says Skinnert, or some variation thereon. Rob has quirks. So do I. When someone I love has quirks, it’s endearing. When someone I don’t love has those same quirks, it’s annoying. I love Rob Ray. My now grown daughter did, too. There’s too much human connection with Rob Ray to ever hope he’s gone. I think we lose something when we sanitize everything away. Oh, and my kids friends called me Mr. Shrek, for good reason. We can legitimately debate whether or not I’m biased. We can’t debate ol’ Rob’s place in my history, story, life, passions ... and heart. That Skinnert was a heck of an acquisition.
  17. By all appearances, he’s getting well. I’m glad for the human being. But man, did somebody miss something last year! Acknowledgment ... I’m no expert on the topic. Perhaps the clues are subtle.
  18. I love Trotz. He looks like a union bricklayer who bought a great suit for his daughter’s wedding ... my family, by the way, and said with the utmost respect, affection and admiration.
  19. Well, to add some perspective ... they may not be a top six club, but they’d beat the last three or four iterations of the franchise seven out of ten with two OT losses.
  20. Lehner seems so controlled. I wonder how his coaching changed, if that is, indeed, involved.
  21. Happy New Year, all .... and auld lang syne!
  22. You are a gift .... capturing the man and the moment.
  23. Merry Christmas to all and Happy Holidays. I am in Buffalo, with my family. God is good and I am joyfully chilly. There is no community without tradition. Grateful, Eleven.
