I think there’s a difference between a free pass and recognizing the performance volatility seen in players you believe have an upward trajectory. I let my younger teammates struggle at work. I reassign the experienced who do the same thing.

I believe there’s a lot of truth, even a single great truth, in your statement. For every NHL hockey player, there are hundreds of kids who can skate, shoot and pass at that level. Finding the next level in your head and heart, bringing it 100 times in 270 nights, makes a season. I’ve often thought finding that level is the final step and the most difficult to take. I believe it requires a discipline that can be learned. We’re watching a journey and not yet at a destination.

I like what they’re doing with Thompson. He’s getting a lot of ice time and playing important minutes. A good, solid, organization can let a kid play and learn unafraid.

Well, I made what is best described as a detour pilgrimage to Parry Sound. My friends practice a different religion and sadly were not interested in the time investment the Hall of Fame would require. I had my picture taken in front of a sign. “Parry Sound, Home of Bobby Orr”. I no longer have the picture. ‘Tis better to have loved, and lost .... I did drive slowly, reverently, by Orr’s childhood home. Then, it was off to The French River and Dokis, to slay pickerel, er, yellows, er, walleye.

I’ve tried to find it ... it’s a suit ... it’s a statement ... it’s a vibe.
