  1. I get what you’re saying. It could apply to Boston, Toronto, Philadelphia, Et al. I think the topic looks for the unique and irrational feel that Carolina gives some of us, your rational response acknowledged. I like the Leafs and Bruins. For the record ... you are reining in hot takes with the observation that things are often just as they appear and should not be turned into something greater. Amen!
  2. What happens when the refs DON’T “let ‘em play”. I think of GoDD, too, on Triple Crown days ...
  3. Not to mention ... This: Became:
  4. Fans who ask “what’s icing” watching their team in the finals. The contemptuous view of my hometown, friends and way of life emanating from a people who knew nothing about any of the three. The inability to distinguish good fortune from excellent execution, making the contempt intolerable. I mean, I understand the Patriots’ contempt. Luke DeCock. Shutting down online ticket sales to credit cards with Buffalo area zip codes. The legacy of The Whalers, Gordy, Mark and Marty, Dineen, Francis, Ulf Samuelson, Ley, Liut, Pronger, Shanahan, Coffey .. in Raleigh? The Research Triangle ad nauseam .... Otherwise, I love the Hurricanes.
  5. I’ll bet he does all those things, at the price point he's willing to. Ah, there’s the rub. Acknowledgement... I read that into the post. The good Matter will answer better for himself. I have to be careful ... I’m getting free market tingles. Professional sports, competition, the certainty of unequal outcomes, gender pay gaps ... I’m going to pour myself a drink, awash in fleeting lucidity.
  6. I am often slow to criticize art, but I think you raise some solid critical points quite immediately.
  7. TVs come a long way since The Honeymooners ...
  8. I think Goodell may be a day three pick. He got low on Wilkens, used his hands, showed footwork retreating, re-established and closed.
  9. I like the way Steve Smith speaks. I believe he was a trash talking, player punching, wild man on the field. He’s not that behind a microphone. There’s a cadence in his speech where every vowel and every consonant earns its moment.
  10. I thought he had an arm sling on.
  11. And, he buttoned his coat. The Duke kid did, too. These things mean a lot to me.
  12. I like Oliver’s tunnel walk best of those I've seen.
  13. Ahh, the war room! Now, we can post about who should and should not be in it!
  14. Detroit .... Eric Ebron in 2014 .... and now this.
  15. I have come to really like Deion Sanders. He drove me crazy in 1989 and through the 1990s. Who's changed?
  16. I can dress like the Duke kid.
  17. I’ve been reading rumors of Bills trading up to three if Q. Williams is available. It’s so defense line and edge deep, I’d rather trade down and get two B+ players instead of one A player. Your going to have some great lineman, D or O, at 12/13 and a good TE shortly thereafter. You can also grab a WR early two. I am shooting stuff out of my donkey. Awesome ... a fan wins 100 years of GIANTS TICKETS ... with his kids and grandkids. edit to add.... close your eyes and imagine the game. think back to 1919.
  18. He is ROCKIN’ it. Can I say that?
  19. I used to the think I couldn't play in the NFL because I lacked size, speed, strength and athleticism. Watching TV, I am adding wardrobe to the list.
  20. Applied math, you. Stats, me. UB did not offer Applied Math at the time. Linear Algebra showed me I was no mathematician, “probably” because I wasn't “applied”.!
  21. AWESOME .... over the years, Ive looked and looked and looked. I never found it. What did you Google? I was at a lunch table with Richer in Tampa. It was a Lightning event; a player at every table set up. Richer talked with me because few in the room understood hockey (1998 to 1999 ish). Here it comes .... GRATEFUL!
  22. Sat in the golds, four or five rows behind the Sabres' bench. I was a guest of "he who must not be named". Went with a boss and two peers. 1) Boss left "early". The rest of us looked at one another, aghast. 2) Twelve A.M., sound system plays "After Midnight". 3) One A.M., sound system plays "One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock, rock". 4) Lafontaine missed the series. It may have been seven one goal games, not counting empty netters. At least six. What would one Lafontaine goal in seven games have meant? 5) Dads with sleeping toddlers on their shoulders, standing and sitting, standing and sitting. 6) Never "losing the tie", because I had no where to put it. 7) Lunch with Stephane Richer, years later in Tampa. His two greatest Buffalo memories ... "a fake slap shot that got Phil Housley traded”*, and "Hasek going post to post to rob me with an open net in that playoff game (shaking head, still)". 8) Work the next day didn't matter. No one was working. * You can separate the world in several ways. Those who've owned a bowling ball, and those who've not. Those who like olives, and those who do not. Those who have read Moby Dick, and those who've not. ..... and, lastly, those who get the Housley reference, and those who do not.
  23. 88 Highgate, UB, senior year. Front “sun room”. Sunday afternoon ...
