Well, no kidding. Is it your contention that the Lemieuxs and Gretzkys wouldn't have won Cups without good to great supporting casts? Maybe. But an alternate argument is that those supporters were good to great because of The Ones who led the way. Eichel's tide didn't come close to lifting all boats.

I always though this argument was weird. Isn't the idea of being rich that you can live where you want? You can afford the taxes. When is enough money enough? You couldn't get me to live in Florida even if there were no taxes at all (local, state, federal, FICA, sales, gun permit fees etc.).

I think you've hit on the crux of it. Macro-tanks happen. But you have to manage micro-tanks. I want Granato to put in place his philosophy and system, which, ultimately have to be about winning every single freakin' game starting Game 1. You put that in place and carry it to seasons 2, 3, 4...

If only. We have too many amateur scouts who are too in love with their player evaluation "skills." They'll always find a way to twist things. Reinhart didn't get much — they were right about him, but Adams got screwed. Risto got too much — they were still right about him, but Adams bent over the Philly GM. The opinions of the professionals, the crowd sourcing of people who've worked in hockey their whole lives mean nothing to them. They're not going anywhere. Practice the eye rolls, grin and bear it.
