  1. I think I'd rather be there and directly show appreciation. I owe him at least that much. Of course one could listen from one's seat. At least I think so. Not on a smart phone, which would be delayed, but with a portable radio. I honestly have no idea if such a gizmo still exists.
  2. In terms of enough time, is the McBeane analogy apt? In year one, they cleaned house to a fair extent and unexpectedly took the team to the playoffs. In year 2, a step back. In year 3, the playoffs again. Year 4 — contenders. Or is NHL vs. NFL too much apples vs. oranges? Adams does seem to be doing a pretty good BB impression.
  3. I'm starting to feel the Flyers game. Would Rick himself rather close with Philly, which has some obvious historic appropriateness, or Chicago? (The Isles game works for this angle, too, given the early playoff matchups between the teams.) Also, assuming there's going to be a whole night devoted to Rick, how would that work on Fan Appreciation Night? PHILLY! And I'm suddenly so confident, I will wager that bet with @Taro T. (The charity is my account at The Hair Club for "Men.")
  4. None of which, of course, can be put into a spreadsheet, which is why it's discounted by some.
  5. Seems like thousands. And I wouldn't bet against the Hawks game, assuming no playoffs. I have no horse in this race.
  6. All games will be broadcast from the arena.
  7. Give it a whirl, sonny.
  8. I added a very necessary choice. Maybe because Dan is calling more home games than he is. It's not a no-brainer. I don't see why Rick would necessarily get the last game.
  9. Apparently I've zoomed right ahead to acceptance — or I'm in a form of bargaining (God, make Rick reconsider after the season or at least agree to do any Cup-clinching games in the future, assuming vital signs allow). Anywho... I'm not sure. Chicago seems like a good fit on a Friday with the assurance of a decent crowd that will be Rick-friendly, even if they're in Hawks sweaters. Philly works as well. I hope it's sold out. And raucous for Rick.
  10. He's a yinzer born in Cali. You can ask Arnold Slick for more info. And his craft aged much, much better than Rick's. Remarkable skill right up to the end. You will die on this hill. I will die in a nearby fracking pit.
  11. Like, ch-yeah, duh, who doesn't know this? FTR, I thought it was a paper towel reference.
  12. Old Buffalo won't be the same...
  13. Rick to call 20 games, all at home, per TBN.
  14. So as the rest of us get executed at dawn, you have a direct line to the governor?
  15. Rick did — I think. It's been awhile since I looked into this, but he was the voice of the 1969-1970 Buffalo Bisons team that won the Calder Cup.
  16. I raised an eyebrow at this, but upon further thought — I wouldn't argue the claim. It encompassed so much of his greatness — the anticipation, the goal call itself, the delirious delight, here somewhat understated and better for it, IMHO.
  17. It's referenced, albeit in a way that pays homage to Rick and not John. This was no accident or incompetence though.
  18. Do you really think he's doing himself any favors?
  19. They won't do it, but if you really want to play a clip of the Best of Jeanneret, find about three or four minutes of continuous action of a Sabres-Bruins playoff game in the 80s. If it ends with a Sabres goal, all the better. That was the genius of Rick on the radio. He delivered the game straight from his mouth, straight into our brains.
  20. Who are the snowflakes again?
  21. But we did see Rick's reaction to that last-second overtime goal by John.
  22. RJ is back! One more season with RJ. One last run. Who says a run is a year?
  23. I concocted a likely version of Rick's sendoff, but it wasn't amazing. It was actually too dark even for me. No one should have any confidence that the Sabres will be able to do anything amazing for him. I mean, just get the guy to center ice and the fans will provide the amazing. Maybe it's me — sure it is — but I'd rewrite the thread title: Sabres announce this is Jeanneret's last season; RJ calls it 'one last run' I see a sliver of light there, but it's only because I want to.
