Something is stuck in my hockey head. Please help me dislodge it. After the loss to NJ a somewhat exasperated DG explained that he had given the team a charge... Play a simple game, "get pucks in behind." It came off as, hey, I coached 'em up, but they wouldn't listen. But this is the NHL. Wouldn't a player expect more of a game plan than that? Was the simple charge a reflection of the coach thinking he had a tired team playing in its third game in four nights? Or is this the way DG thinks? He's on record as saying it's easier to learn the offensive side than the defensive side, and nobody fears defense anyway. Rob let it slip that Donny doesn't do much coaching in a game, he lets the players figure it out. If he's not a tactician, that's fine. Does he have one on his staff? With the heat being turned up on the guy, I guess I'm just wondering... What do we got here in our head coach?

I've lost my nerve as a writer. (I don't write professionally or anything, just for fun.) I used to write all the time. Now I've convinced myself that putting out my drivel on here or emailing a buddy long ramblings "scratches my itch." Now I have a day off, it's spitting snow, the coffee has kicked in and I just sat here weaving a great story in my mind. It would only be a short story, not a novel, you lazy ass, but I don't see myself doing a lick with it. Why? Does anyone here write? Compose music? Paint? It's not fun. It's torture. Oh, when it's done and it's perfect, you feel great, like 10 minutes after finishing a 5K. While you're cramping and gasping, not so much. How do I start?

I feel for Bills fans. Truly. These losses sting for me, and I moved on from a state of psychic surrender a long time ago. It's just bizzare. I don't think it's any more complicated than they can't stop anyone when it counts. For decades. Their pro sports brethren across town would have a similar epitaph on their gravestone. THEY COULD NEVER SCORE WHEN IT COUNTED. If this is all a simulation, someone is having a real hoot with Buffalo sports.

Cheap? Not much if any data would be available re: how much TP's coaches and GMs have made. Murray and Botterill would be on the low end, you'd think, as first time GMs. Adams presumably is making even less than those two. Bylsma might have commanded a decent salary, but Rolston, Housley, RaKru and Granato? Not so much. I'm not sure cheap is the first thing that comes to Terry's mind. Maybe that changed around the early pandemic period. What Terry likes is familiar (Pittsburgh people of all stripes, former Sabres and of course fine young men) and unproven There's an apparent development fetish, too.

Yes. Not to pick on Taro again, but to finish with his 103 points, an 82 point pace team through a quarter of the season is going to have to go the rest of the way pacing as a 110 point team. There are zero signs this is in the offing. I'm afraid last night was telling. Harry Neale used to say scoring a goal went right to a player's legs. Beating Pitt should have propelled the Sabres to a great performance. The chance to get on a roll and start to end the nightmare was sitting there. It didn't happen. This team's head space is bizarre.
