I suspect some spin on this one because it makes zero sense. They only would give him an AHL contract this year but this time around they're willing to go with a one-way deal... and he won't take that guaranteed 10x raise? Someone's leaking out some fake information.

Exactly

So, why couldn’t the Sabres sign a Ilya Sorokin?

That isn't done with the european picks. It's the "bona fide offer" mentioned in that section. All I can think is that there is some addition at the end of the document that relates specifically to the KHL and the lack of a transfer agreement. -

The CBA clearly states that draft pick rights are retained for 4 years for any player drafted from a team outside of North America (2 years if drafted at age 20). So if anyone was reporting that they still had his rights, I don't know what rules could make that possible. That said, in cases like this, I think the players have had a good working relationship with the team through years of communication. Minnesota would have had the same thing recently with their signing of Kaprizov, drafted in 2015. I have seen stuff listing these guys as prospects for those teams prior to the signings, I just don't know how that can actually be the case: It's different than with guys like Kryukov, not that it really matters. He was drafted under a previous CBA with a different set of rules. -
I'm a little confused by the description of Hickey here, granted I don't pay much attention to what goes on in Rochester. I see that his games played numbers are definitely low, but he's still just a second year pro at this point. It sounds like this year should be that make or break year (assuming he's retained) and should finally get that playing time. I'm not so sure that's a failure yet. One good year and he could be on the Borgen path, a fellow second year pro. And speaking of Borgen, it looks like he had some fun right before he took this profile picture.

I've heard several times that they actually make really good pets... obviously as long as the scent gland is removed very early in life.

If they signed him to an ELC last year, draft pick rights are no longer a question here since he has an NHL contract already. edit: Oops I misread that part about when the contract was signed. -
I bet they weren't too crazy about Spain.

I think you significantly underestimate the number of players who just want money. There are plenty who will sign with Buffalo if that's where the best offer come from. And there will be plenty of good players who fall into that category too. This should be an interesting year to watch because I think the short term cash out mentality may be at the highest level it's ever been thanks to all the uncertainty. It may very well be over much smaller amounts of money than in the past too.

It's comforting to know that random people didn't know how to wear them back then either.

And let's not pretend that the NHL is the only company out there doing this. I realize Bettman screwed us over 21 years ago, but this nothing we're seeing right now makes him a villain. Hell, they're not even the league that is planning on having their teams travel all over the country from game to game.

It looks nothing like Hugh Jackman.

Same here. I was very surprised when I clicked on that and a lot of the initial posts were about how people never even noticed an animal until now.

His parents were a pair of Canadian missionaries. It seems pretty similar to a kid born on a military base out of country (granted we consider that American soil). He had no Brazilian roots and doesn't remember a second of his life there. I'd be very curious to see what he says about any ties he may feel towards Brazil. Good luck sorting out all of the eastern european birthplaces you guys are talking about right now. That will keep you guys going for a while.?

Do we know if he would actually call himself Brazilian?

It must be nice being able to say when you became a fan. The only answer I can come up with is at birth.

Are our 15+ year old stories more relevant than the much more recent ones? What worked back then may very well not work anymore.

Bettman has embraced the boos for probably as long as Roger has been on the job. Roger is still way too stiff with his boos and I’m pretty sure Gary loves it.

Even Bettman enjoys the booing. It was edgy at one point, but that day is long gone.

I guarantee to you that there are people who think the death rate constantly sighted is that ratio your friend is using. It really is important to see both numbers and know what each means.

He’s not wrong. There is a use for that figure, but it’s just a matter of how you try to use it.

To be fair, those grandkids have been dead for around 200 years. So they in fact cannot wear a mask. Edit: Oops, you said Europe. I see forefathers and I think revolution days.
