  1. No argument here. I bought my first house in Kenmore for under 100k. There's no better value for homes than Buffalo and the surrounding suburbs.
  2. Ironically Buffalo is now none of those things. Nobody wants to attend the Sabres games, the downtown lofts and condos are pretty pricey (and in high demand), and while you should still stay out of certain areas, there's plenty of attractions now. When the Genesee St. restaurant district opens up, that will provide another draw to the city. The only big item the city is missing is development to bridge the canalside district with Main St/Chippewa/Theater developmets. Right now there is a big gap where One Seneca Tower and that surrounding area is.
  3. Just to add some stats to back you up, Buffalo won 10 of 13 games before he got hurt and then went 1-7-1 when he was sidelined. Now it certainly isn't all due to Myers, but that's pretty telling. Also, I'm guessing that we are getting pretty close to breaking through the bottom valley in carp's tank chart, so I am expecting a few wins coming up. Hopefully they hold off until afer the next two games.
  4. I too have Bevell as my #1 choice. Too much success over his coaching career for it to be a fluke, and never really relied on a stud player. Always a solid running game which is something I think we desperately need.
  5. I knew I liked you LGR.
  6. I stand corrected. I guess quite a few somebodys watch it. Reality shows just aren't my cup of tea...
  7. Pegula's private plane is on its way back from the west coast as we speak. Had stops in Seattle, San Fran and San Deigo. Landing in Eagle County, CO as we speak, then on to Kansas, then back to Buffalo. Looks like interviews with the Seattle staff (Bevell and Quinn in SEA), then on to San Fran (assuming Rex Ryan while he was in SF for their interview, Shanahan is rumored to live in SF now) and San Diego (Reich). That's just my speculation. Here's the flight tracker link: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/XSR960/history/20150105/1400Z/KSAN/KEGE
  8. So I take it you watch Celebrity Apprentice? I guess somebody has to...
  9. Me either. I just didn't find myself laughing very often. I understand comedies aren't going to be academy award winning writing, but it felt more insulting than comedy to me. If you want to laugh at North Korea and Kim Jong Un, then more power to you, but you won't get my laugh just on that premise alone.
  10. Really? I thought it was one of the worst comedies I have seen in a long time. Rediculous premise and too much over the top/irreverent comments. Different strokes for different folks I guess...
  11. My priority is in keeping continuity on the defensive sde of the ball. Good teams are successful because there is continutiy from year to year, and the players and coaches know what to expect, are able to build on last year's systems, and not have the players learn entirely new playbooks/systems. So whatever happens with teh coaching search, I think it is imperitive to keep Schwartz and his staff in place on the defensive side, and maintain the same defensive playbook and system. With regards to the coching candidates, I think I am rooting for Bevell from Seattle's OC, for innovation, success in a run first, mobile QB offense, and relative youth.
  12. I just find it fascinating that all of the comments on relying on the stats to drive results has finally shown true, as the Sabres are performing recently in line with what the statistical indicators show. Enroth did not maintain his Hasek like performance and has egressed significantly with multiple 5 goal games allowed. Sabres scoring has gone back to ~1 goal per game after the winning streak where they scored nearly 3. Shot differential continues to be incredibly lobsided in favor of the opposition. Have no fear, the Sabres as still a very bad team and in the running for CHL champion/shart.
  13. I can't wait for the day when this doesn't mean what it currently does. Thanks for the updates gents.
  14. poppycock
  15. I think Whaley gets the criticism because his big misses have been the higher profile picks. Public perception has Manuel and Kuondijo (sp?) as misses. I totally agree that 50% hit rate is highly successful. The metric I always use is adding two starters per draft class is a success. 2013 - Kiko and Woods 2014 - Watkins, Brown and Henderson
  16. It's the same reason I stay away from Wal-Mart. I saw on the internet that the store was full of scary looking and poorly dressed people.
  17. Buh Buh Buh Benny!
  18. So at least in North Korea the US team is winning
  19. Agreed tw. I think that the Manuel pick was more a product of bad timing, i.e. needing a QB in a bad QB draft, with Nix on the outs looking for a "franchise QB" before he leaves. If Whaley had not picked any QB in that draft, he would have been lambasted for ignoring the biggest position of need. It's entirely possible he didn't love any of the QBs in that draft class. Looking at all the QBs from that draft class, I would say that Manuel was at least the best choice out of them all.
  20. Score update for those of us in work streaming video jail?
  21. I don't think a team can be bought like that. We tried that when Pegula first started with disasterous results. The teams that make cup runs usually have a group of players that have been playing with each other for multiple years, that is supplemented by a trade deadline rental with enough skill to boost scoring. The Ennis/Girgs/Moulson line chemistry and success is what all the lines need to develop to be a consistent cup contender. Why break up one of the building blocks? You say somebody has to overpay for Myers to be traded, well by all indications GMTM is asking a high price and no team has made the trade. If you can get a first line player then sure trading Myers is a no-brainer, but your initial post made it sound like the Sabres should trade him away to help with the tank. Doing that just creates another hole to fill and leaves us even younger on the blueline.
  22. I also agree that the trade probably could have been made for our 2014 1st and 2nd, but we can't say for sure. We can only judge based on what it actually took to make the deal, otherwise we could speculate that he should have held out for a trade of the #1 and Craig Urbik. Who knows. I won't really care in a few years, since success in sports is mostly about who has the most elite, matchup winning players. Our Defense is great because we have matchup winning players all over our d-line. Watkins looks like a matchup winning WR for years to come. Opponents have to double him, leading to one-on-ones with Woods, etc. Keep in mind that Nix was quoted the season prior that he will acquire a franchise quarterback as part of his legacy as Bills GM. I think that Manuel was the last reminants of the Nix era. But without concrete factual proof, that is a debate that could go on for ages with no resolution.
  23. For further context in the Julio trade (which I think is the closest comparison to the Watkins trade in the last few years) "the Atlanta Falcons traded picks 27, 59, 124 in the 2011 draft and their 2012 1st and 4th round picks to the Cleveland Browns to draft Alabama WR Julio Jones." On first glance at the time of the trade, that seems like an absurd haul for the Browns. Many media outlets were saying that it is way too much to give up for one player. It goes to show that the unknown "first round pick player" is perceived as more valuable than the actual player turns out to be. Let us look at who the Browns ended up getting with those picks for Julio. Since it has been 2-3 seasons since the trade, we can probably accurately gauge the value of the players now. "In exchange for giving up the pick that became Jones, the Browns got defensive tackle Phil Taylor (Atlanta's 2011 first-round pick), wide receiver Greg Little, (2011 second-round pick), fullback Owen Marecic (2011 fourth-round pick) and quarterback Brandon Weeden (2012 first-round pick). Cleveland also used a 2012 fourth-round pick in that deal as part of the package to trade up one spot for running back Trent Richardson." The only player that is still on the team now is Phil Taylor. I don't think you can count the Trent Richardson haul since the 4th rounder wasn't the key piece in the trade to get him. Would anyone here not trade a starting DT for a elite WR?
  24. I don't have as much of a problem with the Watkins trade as most seem to. I'd rather my GM be aggressive and get "their guy" than hang back and hope things work out. Given the relative uncertainty of the draft process (even in the first round), if you think the player has talent and is a sure thing, no issue with the cost to get said player. Does anyone remember the players that were given up by Atlanta to get Julio Jones? I would bet most people just know that Julio is an elite #1 receiver. A lot of sports discussion seems to put a huge priority on futures/prospects/draft picks value, when the game is won by elite, matchup-winning players.
  25. You do realize that eventually we will have to field a competitve roster right? Both of these players bolded are relatively young and on pretty good contracts. Trading them would push back the rebuild by at least a few seasons. It is nearly impossible to have a playoff worthy team when every player you are rostering is a first or second year player. The "hand the keys to the youngsters" strategy is mostly why Edmonton is so terrible. They have plenty of talented guys in Hall, RNH, Eberle, Yak, Drasatl, but they are still terrible because those players are expected to lead/carry the team as twenty-somethings. This isn't Madden on NHL15 where you can just make any team dynamic work.
