I really enjoyed the goalie playing the puck as well, but the best was probably the way Dom Hasek would come full bore out to prevent a breakaway. It was like a train wreck in the slot. Now that was hockey!

I remember. Just pointing out that at the current trajectory, it will turn into a two team race pretty quickly. Also didn't notice in my first post that Ottawa and Columbus have 3 games in hand on #6 Philly, so there isn't as big of a gap as I originally stated.

I don't know, there appears to be a pretty distinct gap between the top 6 (Philly @ 51) and the rest (Columbus/Ottawa/Colorado/Minnesota @ 47-46). That and all of those teams are 12-14 points away from the Buffalo/Edmonton disaster.

Sorry to frighten you 11, but I can't believe that all the time spent on this board you were not aware of the numerous Derek Roy costumes floating around the interwebs. That's just the first of many, but I won't frighten the children by posting them all.

This is exactly what I argued in my post upthread. The 06-07 years the team had enought talent that was perceived as higher end/elite that hockey trades could have been made to "reload" and adapt the team talent to reflect the changing rules structure. At that point the players we all ended up hating a few years later still were highly regarded. Losing centers and relying on wing play and next man up mentality resulted in a methodical talent drain that led u to the postiion we are in now.

I thought Hodgson was more involved this game. The Hodgson/Stewart/Stafford line had some relatively decent zone time and possession. At least in the first period. That's something right?

Sorry, Fifty Shades of Gray doesn't come out until Valentine's Day.

I certainly don't want to open up that can of worms again. That discussion would bleed into every topic around here for years. I think we came up with a dead horse emoticon to use anytime the Drury/Briere thing was discussed.

That and we don't have a 124 page Deflate-gate thread. They had deflated balls in a game. We get it. May I suggest a Derek Roy halloween costume avatar?

That's why I posted my 'mid-season refresher' above. Just a reminder of what is expected so we can all be friends here. You don't get to 20,000 posts without a few of them being bad posts...

I smell a Mark Wahlberg movie sequel coming... Invincible 2: An Icy Shot

For the record, my post wasn't really aimed at a specific poster, just a general comment. Certainly not at you Tank, I think you get the decorum discussed.

Agreed. If we keep getting rid of players because they have flaws, then we won't have many players left on the roster. Eventually you have to start building with what you have and compensate for player weakness or the team will be rebuilding forever. It's impossible to have a team full of Crosby clones - and even then that team would be to soft for some of you. :nana:

Look guys, the tank is depressing. Nobody wants thier favorite team to be the worst in the league. Everyone around here is painfully aware that by all metrics, the Sabres are the worst team in the league. Some posters just want to root for the team to win, despite all odds, and the GDT is the best place for that. There is a courtesy concept to keep the Tank discussion in the CHL thread and the few other tank threads in order to allow everyone to attempt to enjoy the games while they are going on. That's all this really is. No need to constantly remind people how bad the team is. The board as a whole is smart and gets it.

Regardless of the way the league called penalties post-lockout, those teams had loads of talent that allowed Vanek Roy Afinigenov (?) to be he third line. Even if that team structure wasn't going to work going forward, the players on that team were considered top offensive players. A prudent GM could have shuffled out some of the finesse players for heavier players. It would have been a reload like Detroit rather than the apocalyptic rebuild that we see now. I understand that based on the position the team is in right now thats the way to go. But back then, we had the quality to continue to build and make adjustments rather than blowing the whole thing up. Yes we wouldn't ever have a Crosby, Stamkos, Taveres etc., but we could still be competitive like the LA and Boston teams that won with talent depth. The Sabres mismanaged that talent by losing Drury/Briere on Black Sunday, and continuing to focus on retaining the winger talent and failing to realize it was the center depth that made that team click.

Thank god that show got cancelled...

I'm treating that link the same way I do an obvious malware/porn pop-up link.

Okay, I guess you win. It's worse than I thought. Neuvirth is 31st leaguewide and Enroth is 38th out of 43 qualifying players. That's bad. http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm?fetchKey=20152ALLGAGAll&viewName=savePercentageLeaders&sort=savePercentage&pg=2 I would say my arguement is more I think both players are more skilled than their numbers indicate, and have poor stats mostly because the face a much tougher workload on a nightly basis (shots against/scoring chance quality etc)

That number is highly deflated due to Nolan's willingness to let his goalie get shelled in a blowout game. One bad game and Enroth gives up 7 goals and kills his season GAA and sv%. It's like looking at pitching ERA and WHIP in the MLB. A good pitcher can have quality starts in every game and then give up one 8 run, 1 1/3 inning disaster start and his ERA is hovering around 5 for a large strech of the season. Enroth hasn't been amazing, but he is way down on my list for tank leaders.

Am I the only one that still thinks Hodgson is still a good player and has just been crushed this year due to the clear objective of the team? Hodgson bandwagon roll call! Anyone out there?

I hope so too. I would much rather watch Enroth v Miller and Hackett v EDM than the other way. However, common non-CHL hockey strategy might be to play your best goalie (Enroth) against the winnable opponent in EDM and just bite the bullet against the better Vancouver team. Then again who knows this season.

So what did you say to the girl that won the award? Must have been exciting for her... ;)

Unfortunately, one of the tank captains is with the team for the long term. Might be tough when Hodgson has to start playing like a CHL 4th liner again - thats a tough transition from 1st line CHL minutes.
