  1. Not sure that this is accurate as they didn't give Krebs credit for a shot about 3 minutes into the game; but they claim the Sabres were outshot 15-4 in the 1st.
  2. Yup. But at least the've killed off 1/2 of this one without giving up any serious chances. (And as he says that Georgiev has to make a nice blocker save.) 2 or 3 shots on the PP for the Wings. Only 1 that was dangerous. Will take that on the kill.
  3. Why does the video graphic keep showing that Γ–stlund has a goal but Tuch and Zucker have 0. Zucker also has 0 assists. Know what else he and Tuch have 0 of - TOI. They are NOT dressed tonight you rubes. For those that can actually watch this (or at least the "stream continues shortly" graphic they show whenever there is a stoppage), Wayne Gretzky is also scoreless as is Jim Lorentz and shockingly Josh Allen hasn't gotten on the board yet, though he's due.
  4. Know where the Ellicott Square Building is? Well, there you are. πŸ˜‰ Literally kitty corner across from the ballpark and nearly across the street from Washington Square (which I know you know where THAT is).
  5. And even better yet if you buy me a beer. πŸ˜‰
  6. As mentioned in the PM you sent me; I joined yesterday. There's 11 teams and "Taro's Terrors" are one of them. Don't know who the slacker is; but it ain't this kid. πŸ˜‰
  7. They've ALWAYS had the deferments reflect the particular year the money is earned's NPV during the Salary Cap era. Which is why when a player actually made use of that benefit this past year it was silly that people were going nuts about there being cap circumvention. There was no such thing happening.
  8. That won't appreicably lower the cap hit. The deferred money (if it's spelled out exactly what he'll get in years 9+) will lower the hit SLIGHTLY as for cap purposes the money would have its NPV in each of those years calculated and used in the cap hit calculation. And if it's that $1MM (or $2MM as the case may be) of today's money will be defered until later regardless of the vehicle it is parked in; then there won't be any cap savings as the cap gets charged the full face value of the deferred money. Also, realize, and expect that you do, am stating this for people reading that aren't particularly familiar with the CBA & MOUs, that the deferred money would get paid out to him in those future years regardless of his contract situation (aka whether he were still playing & regardless as to whether it was still as a Sabre or not). Other than for the look of it (hey, this guy's getting money after the contract is over, this must be circumvention; even though when you actually look at it, it isn't circumvention and every $ gets accounted for in the cap in the season it is earned) not sure why the players let the owners get rid of it. It gives guys the external discipline of living on less money than they really have and gives them a pretty significant income in their post playing years. Yes, if you have a good financial advisor you're likely better off having the money now rather than later; but a lot of these guys never went to college and it isn't always easy to figure out what advisor to trust. (All sorts of horror stories of bands, actors, and athletes getting swindled by people they trusted. They aren't the rule, but there's enough that they need to be ware.)
  9. Contracts CAN NOT get "redone" in the NHL. Thompson is locked in through the deal and cannot sign another contract until July 1 of the last season of the deal. That contract would take effect when the current 1 expires.
  10. Without getting traded, he can ONLY get an 8 year deal from the Sabres. And IF as a condition of running the playoff BF-LTIR rules into this season, the 6/7 rule kicks in July 1 rather than mid-September then if he walks to FA then he can only get a 6 year deal from anybody. (Expecting that won't happen; but until they finalize the revisions to the implementation of the new MOU to the CBA, it is possible.)
  11. Yup. And, if you truly ARE the MVP of the entire league, aren't THOSE the moments you're supposed to have a huge 4th Q; rather than have it in a game you're already killing the other team?
  12. Have been saying this for YEARS. And still to this day can't understand why the rank and file end up going along with leadership when they push hard for guys getting close to max deals and ALSO when the leadership fights so hard to keep guys that injure their brethren from getting punished. The players get 1/2 of the pie, regardless how big or small the pie is (Covid disruptions to that not withstanding). It is in their best interest to do everything possible to grow the pie and the best way to do that is to put a tremendously entertaining product on the ice. And the players don't seem to understand that when they adjust actual salaries to meet the 50% of revenue total, that they do a straight %age boost across the board when revenues come in above projections (and, pulling Covid out of the picture, they almost always end up exceeding projections). So, if HRR exceeds projections by 10%, then a $1MM player actually gets $1.1MM and a $10MM player gets $11MM. The divide between the haves and have nots actually increases even more. Granted, on those rare occassions projections don't get met, the bigger monied players take the bigger hit, but that is the exception, not the rule. And, rather than wanting to come down on the guys that cross check others in the back eventually helping to contribe to back issues for players that are extremely talented (cough, cough, Dahlin); the leaders of the NHLPA are perfectly fine with that crud. Well, when the skilled players are out of the game, its a LOT less enteraining. Not saying they should go to a checking free game; but the PA needs to care about more than simply hits that might lead to concussions. EDIT: SLIGHT oversimplication on the contract adjustment as it is the total nominal player payroll that gets adjusted to 50% of HRR. Made an assumption that nominal player payroll was close/equal to actual player payroll. But if at the end of the day player nominal payroll was under what actual payroll should be, all the players nominal salaries get adjusted by the same % so a $1MM player gets an extra $100k and a $10MM player gets an extra $1MM should nominal get adjusted 10%.
  13. Yes, they are there. They weren't when the post was started; had to step away before finishing it.
  14. Rosen and Fiddler-Schultz getting Kozak's and Geertson's roster spots. Wonder if Rosen will take Wahlberg's spot with Γ–stlund and Helenius or if he'll take Kozak's spot on a checking line. Expecting Fiddler-Schultz is getting Geertson's spot because he played both BJ games. Wonder which AHLer will be the odd man out on D as am expecting Mrtka to play, so either Metsa or Rathbone would presumably be the one who's pressbox bound. Does Georgiev get the start again with Levi taking mop up duty, or do they flip it to see how Georgiev does coming in to start the 3rd without a real warmup? Questions, questions, questions. All to be answered within the next 8 hours. EDIT: So Johnson is odd man out. And the original roster sheet was incorrect as it had Krebs in the lineup and Kozak out. "Great" work guys and gals.
  15. Exactly. He also doesn't seem to need to play a few games after missing long stretches to "get his game back." Adams and Ruff were very clear about that being why he was brought back. And, like everybody else, would much rather they have a guy that isn't as limited as Bryson in that 8 role. UNLESS (well actually even if, to be technical, but should this be the case it isn't as galling) the plan is to have him be the rostered 8 but in reality the 9 behind either Johnson or Novikov who will actually be playing in Ra-cha-cha until somebody in addition to Samuelsson breaks. Don't fully get why people say they don't understand why Bryson is on the roster when Adams has been very clear as to why. FULLY understand why they don't agree with it. And as already said, would rather they have a better player slotted into the 8 because the 8 realistically will play ~20 games.
  16. Wadr, Jackson wasn't excellent Sunday night. He was Romo. Great stats, but had a critical fumble on 4th down in the red zone and got outscored 17-7 in the 4th while taking about 4 sacks in the 4th (and 7 total). The only reason they even got the 7 points in the 4th is the Lions inexplicably couldn't tackle on 3rd and a million on a little dump off. It'll be interesting to see how their game vs the Chefs plays out this weekend. The cool thing is one of them will, barring a very unlikely tie, be 1-3 at the end of the game. The scary thing is one of them will be 2-2 and thinking they've righted their ship moving forward.
  17. That seems to be about where he should be. Hopefully they aren't a tire fire in their own end again, the PP isn't beyond useless, and the goaltending scary. Because if that happens then the Sabres will be relevant, and then people will recognize just how good he actually is. His abiiity to keep the puck in the zone is beyond elite.
  18. 20-0 baby. πŸ˜‰
  19. Truly. As the only way they cancel a game is if something horrific happens (like a Damar Hamlin type event).
  20. If all 3 of the healthy guys continue to play well over the next 2-44 games, a BIG if, wonder if they'd hold off on getting UPL any game action in the preseason to be able to send him down to Ra-cha-cha on a conditioning assignment buying themselves a bit more time to make a move with one of the 3 guys that would have to be waived to play for the Amerks. Of course, with Reimer getting claimed last year trying to send him down late, they might decide its best to waive goalie 4 (Levi is 3 unless he earns 1) at the roster cut down day to try to sneak him through when there are literally 100's of names on the waiver wire. Will be interesting to watch either way.
  21. Umm, do they perhaps know something about Adam Mair's status that hasn't been made public yet? That's one possibility.
  22. Yes. They're slightly different than most served in Buffalo as the base hot sauce isn't Frank's but it's sill a traditional "Louisiana" hot sauce (like Frank's). They have a good menu; it's bar food, but it's good bar food.
  23. Realize that the analytics say that Kulich and Thompson were very good together and they were in the offensive end and against middle of the pack teams. But, from the eye test, Kulich got absolutely stomped in his own end against teams with very good top lines. The Sabres didn't face many of those down the stretch, which IMHO skews their results. Completely expect Kulich to get better at that; but IMHO at least against teams w/ GOOD top lines, he is NOT a top line C. Maybe the guy to play with Thompson and Benson is McLeod; then Norris gets Zucker and Tuch or Doan and Tuch; and Kulich gets Quinn (until Helenius steals his spot πŸ˜‰ ) and Doan/Zucker. McLeod is very defensively responsible and showed more in the offensive zone last year than people expected. Especially if opponents are keying on trying to take away Tage, then maybe McLeod's offense last year wasn't just a mirage.
  24. It's time to put on our gear. It's time to light the light. It's time to get things started on the Sabres show tonight! To introduce our goal scorer, that's what I'm here to do, it really makes me happy to introduce to you ... Mr. Tage Thompson!!!!! Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! It's the most sensational, inspirational, Sabresnational, this is what we call the Sabres Shhhhhhhooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww. (Then have Ray and Biron make a little snide remark to each other like Statler and Waldorf always did.)
  25. Great work by Helenius to keep the BJs off-balance with the CB net empty and he eventually clears the zone.
