  1. Prove it. 23 on this roster nearly has him above the median.
  2. Clearly he put work in. Did he EVER put in any work beneath his own blue line, at least after he got to the NHL? (He did get better about not sprinting up ice as soon as the Amerks might've gained control of the puck that rookie season of his under Appert.)
  3. Thing is, IF in fact he did want to leave (and the coincidental evidence indicates he might've) it doesn't fully make sense that it's because he couldn't abide Ruff. Wasn't part of the reason they brought Appert up was to "work his magic" with Peterka and Quinn and the others that "learned how to be pros" under Seth's wonderful tutelage? Shouldn't he have been able to be JJ's Craig Patrick when dealing with his own Herb Brooks?
  4. We don't. But unlke Clifton who was (or should've been) a known quantity, this guy is still only, what, 23? He very well could and should be a better hockey player this coming season than he was last season (all other variables being unchanged, which absolutely isn't possible). Personally, can't vote in this poll because if this is the ONLY move Adams makes, then am very unhappy with it. If it's part of a grander package of revamping the roster (yeah, right, but for sake of discussion, let's say it is or at least might be) then even though Adams likely only got ~80% of what Peterka should be worth if the sum whole of the moves these next 2 weeks primarily and all summer end up netting the Sabres a team that can make the playoffs, then cool, the deal was fine. And that isn't looking back on it 10 years later; that's looking back on it 2 weeks to 3 months later. But in and of itself, no, there should have been a better deal out there and per reports there's a pretty decent likelihood there was. Plus, there was no NEED to trade him. He doesn't reach UFA status for 4 (well, now post new contract 5) more years.
  5. IF this guy is ####ing Smehlik-Clears-it-Not-Out fire him into the sun right ####ing now. (Pretty sure he ain't. But if he is, ftg.)
  6. So, are we now officially to the point of Adams tenure when he tries to do the "correct" or maybe better version of the Tim Murray portion of the post-suffering Sabres GM? Because the run of the Darcy Regier "there will be suffering" but this time we'll do it correctly or maybe better portion of the show seems to have ended last off-season with the Savoie trade and the 2nds for 4th liners trades. As the Sabres are no longer necessarily getting younger with every trade, it does seem that portion of the show is finally done. Or maybe we're in the portion of the suffering plan that Regier got punted before having an opportunity to implement? The, we'll trade the incredible talent we've acquired through the past few years to fill the other holes in the roster that come from only drafting skill at the top with little to no grit to go with it. Wonder if Adams gets his Botterill we're going to completely change direction of what type of players we want to build around time too or if he finally gets punted / promoted before then? In any case, can the ride finally end? Can we finally wake up from the nightmare? Is it finally February 3?
  7. Of course the priority is/was to get the best return possible. But how that is defined is what we'll never know. (In all realistic likelihood.)
  8. Any word on how much upper body strength he's developed / working towards considering lower body has been pretty much on hold? He needs to get comfortable with his shot. If he can do that, maybe he'll start to live up to expectations. (That and have somebody, clearly not a Sabre coach, but somebody, teach him that he doesn't have to ALWAYS DROP THE PUCK BACK 70'+ EVERY SINGLE TIME HE CARRIES THE PUCK ON THE PP.)
  9. Sadly, what might be best for the LT is Adams actually effectuates more of an NHL team that still ends up underperforming FORCING ownership and management to come to what seems to be what should be a glaring realization: the coaching on this team is darn near the absolute worst in the league in at least 2 major areas: defensivie system and pp tactics. Absolutely don't want to watch another losing season. Soooooo truly tired of it. True best case might be them falling flat on their faces in October, a house cleaning happens, and the players are so bouyed by finally having a structure they can work in that they play at a 110+ point pace the rest of the year and sneak into the playoffs.
  10. And they in fact did do and did get something different. Is it enough, will it work? Wtf knows. HOPEFULLY what they did get is just the 1st of about 4 significant moves that need to be made (ideally along with 2-4 other more minor moves). (Though their thorough refusal to fix the coaching at least until this point leaves one to fear they won't have the skill/stomach to make those additional other 3 significant moves.)
  11. Well, ain't that the point? Until you actually get something different, you expect more of the same.
  12. We're (nearly) all expecting Kesselring to be Power's partner. Is it likely he's actually pencilled in as Dahlin's partner? Which would then put either Bernard-Docker or somebody not yet here as Power's new partner.
  13. In the immediate, barring future moves (which there really HAVE to be, right?) this pencils in Quinn into the top 6, Doan into his slot on the 3rd line, and Kesselring as the 4D partnered up with Power. Guess of how Ruff would deploy them based upon last year's usage (and arranging lines by ice time, not necessarily function). Line 1 - Benson Norris Thompson Line 2 - Quinn McLeod Tuch Line 3 - Zucker Kulich Doan/Greenway Line 4 - Doan/Greenway Krebs Malenstyn Spare: Lafferty And that DEFINITELY has room for improvement.
  14. Demonstrably true. This is where we HAVE to HOPE that Kekalainen is going to make a difference.
  15. Would much rather a Quinn for Rossi trade than a (now impossible) Peterka for Rossi trade. But expecting the Wild wouldn't.
  16. To us, the fans, this trade only makes sense if the Sabres are using that ~$5.5MM saved on someone the team needs. From ownership's perspective it MAY make sense in that the Sabres got about 80% of what Peterka is worth AND ownership can hold ~$5.5MM in pocket. As a couple of our Canadian posters have mentioned the fans and ownership/management don't necessarily have identical goals. Would absolutely love to hear both Pegula's take on this and whether he intends to spend significantly more in salary than is presently indicated (provided his GM can actually bring in the talent worthy of that spending) and also what the team's "big 3" think of the move. If the players think this move as is is good, am less disheartened by it, and if we end up seeing at least 2 of the following 3 things happen in the next 2 weeks: a partner for Dahlin is brought in, a GOOD top 6 (if not a GREAT top 6) F is brought in (preferably another C; figure out who plays W later, have depth at that slot), &/or a known good goaltender is brought in; will be ok with last night's move.
  17. Thank you. Didn't feel like looking up the entirety of that trade. GMs over pay all the time even for players with huge ???'s. Even if it was addition by subtraction, the rest of the addition should've been more.
  18. Even if it's addition by subtraction. The poster child for addition by subtraction: Alexei Yashin netted Zedeno Chara. There are ALWAYS GMs that beiieve HIS system and HIS people can overcome any issues that a particular player might bring with him. Even if this trade HAD to happen prior to the draft (or Utah would move on to a different move), there were still nearly 2 more days before that.
  19. Still believe the return should've been greater. Except in very limited cases, the reason for the Sabres making him available really shouldn't factor in for what the return should be.
  20. Not Robertson, but a MUCH better question. 😉 Danke.
  21. Really enjoyed watching Peterka on the rush. Had been resigned to Peterka going out the door since the trade deadline when there was so much smoke about him getting traded then. But really wanted him to be a piece in a larger deal, not him being the big piece getting moved. This trade CAN work. But that margin for error on needing everything to go right just got smaller again. And referring to the post about how this should make the D better, well it might. But D-men often don't look as good in their 1st season in a new place as they did look. Still would've preferred punting Wilford to improve the defensive play; that one has a higher probability of helping THIS season.
  22. You couldn't have asked a question where Robertson was the answer, could you?
  23. Not exactly drafted by the same team, but Gordie Howe played with both his boys in Houston and with the New England/Hartford Whalers. Would be surprised if there are no fathers and sons that were drafted by the same team.
