Why not have Tage and Tuch on the top line together? Tage can play either on the wing or center with Tuch on the other side. Norris can play center on the top line or second line. Where I separate myself with people taking the same position as you are regarding Quinn is that I see more upside from him than many others do. And I see that potential coming to fruition sooner than others see it. Again, with respect to this particular player I steadfastly say no. The priorities this offseason is in net and on the blueline. The blueline needs to be reconfigured with a better mix.

I hope that works, but it will take some luck. Maybe we are due for some good luck

Levi wouldn’t be my preference. We need someone who has demonstrated they are up to the task. I’m looking to the other 31 teams in the league as well as the free agency list if I am GM.

Saw that, good read. Also I've so totally ignored central scouting for being the hacks they are that I just more realized how low they put Carbonneau. Actually I'll add. I've had a crush on what Carbonneau does for a bit. I cannot understand why he's not higher in ppls boards. The puck handling is excellent. The skating is borderline elite for his edges and quickness. He's mean sometimes, like you know how we lament players not standing up for themselves or others, Carbonneau will stand up. Actually he might want to dial it back a touch. If I can't have Bear, I'll take Carbonneau... mainly so I can hear Marty pronounce his name.

Now there's a great idea. Carbonneau in the ncaa would be such a great development move for him.

It seems odd that LaFontaine hasn't sniffed another NHL (EDIT) team job since his abrupt departure from the Sabres in March 2014. I looked at his Wiki to get that date. There, I learned that LaFontaine's tenure with the Islanders' FO was even shorter than it was in Buffalo -- a mere 6 weeks during the summer of 2006.

Your record is who you are. The Sabres are the worst organization in sports right now besides maybe the NYJ in the NFL. This is an outlier of everything you could do wrong running a franchise in the worst possible way. Hopefully the new guy will bring some sanity.

LGR4GM, you trust in UPL?

I don’t understand how you don’t see Quinn’s expendability as a style of play mix as well. As stated earlier, we have Tuch and Tage as top 6 RWs. We need a player better suited to middle 6 for the spot Quinn occupies. Maybe Quinn blossoms elsewhere. So what? This team needs a different mix. Given that we aren’t moving on from Tage or Tuch, it makes sense to use Quinn to get the different skillset that helps balance out the forward roster. That he has the potential to blossom just makes it more likely we can get a better example of the skillset we lack than if he wasn’t so young.

Tkachuk will be first in surgery line when this series ends, I bet. The same with Sam.

I really hate the 3 headed monster. We need a clear cut #1 and go with whoever shines preseason as the #2. Sign a plan C for Rochester.

The Byrum issue relates to style of play within the current mix. And another consideration is the next contract cost. If he gets the gilded long term deal that I expect, there will be a poor cap distribution within the roster. I want to make it clear that I like him a lot.

I'm still at the point where maybe he just could not handle a full season as the man. Maybe he is better platooning, getting more rest and learning how to be a better pro. Levi is a complete mystery to me, seems to shine and then not to. But having Reimer--or someone we obtain somewhere else, somehow--as stop gap just makes sense. Finding goaltenders is hard.

Why is this even being talked about as an idea if he has a 10 team list on no trade. If Buffalo is not #1 on that list, it's pretty close. ZERO chance people like him will choose to ruin their career by coming to Buffalo.

What’s wrong with the Oilers?

Having depth and players competing for positions are not bad things. And having players such as Quinn, JJP and even Kulich who can move up to higher lines is what you want in an injury plagued crash sport. The priority is the goalie position. And the next priority is to bulk up the blueline with a couple more muscular defenders. We have the assets in Byrum, draft picks and prospects to accomplish those doable additions. Acting on frustration gives other more enlightened GMs opportunities to fleece us. Being smart is better than being dumb.
