  1. Past hour
  2. Does anyone know what Benson’s timeline to return? Is there chance he will play tonight?
  3. We all go round and round on this topic. Some people have one opinion, some have a different opinion. My fear is that Pegula, no matter how many people he talks to, isn't going to pick the 'best' person for the job. Instead he is going to pick someone who he feels comfortable with. Someone who will make him feel 'heard' on personal decisions, someone who won't make him upset when he talks to him.
  4. Choosing a new GM is a tough and challenging issue for every owner. Smart owners seek out advice from outside voices who are knowledgeable about the hockey business. On the other hand, a sure way to flub the critical decision is to act out whim and hire someone so patently unqualified that the no other owner would have even considered him for the job let alone selected him. And to compound this stupendously bad selection is to keep this person in his critical position after his failed extended service. It makes no freaking sense.
  5. How can I take your argument seriously? You are declaring Ellis no good after 3 starts? You also switch between goals against average and save percentage depending which stat looks worse to make your case.
  6. Sure give us your best 3 players 25 and under as well as 2 first round draft pick, 3 if you are picking at the end of the round.
  7. But is Appert a "fine" young man?
  8. I think it's more important because right now Pegula penny pinches on the Sabres. They don't do big signing bonuses. They don't retain salary on deadline deals. They don't spend to the cap. They don't like to pay people they fire. I'm just afraid they will do Appert like Granato. Name him interim head coach and then after a fake "search" name him full time head coach. He is Terry's chosen one.

  10. Today
  11. WHAT's more important? The post you responded to was strictly one pointing out a coincidence - that under Pegula coaches generally get replaced on a 2 year cycle but GMs seem to be on a 3 year cycle. There was nothing of major import in that OP other than, again, pointing out that coaches go stale after about 2 years and GMs after about 3. Here's to hoping this one isn't on a 9 year cycle (or God forbid, a 12 year cycle).
  12. You keep telling us Lyon is good while ignoring the terrible play of our others goalies. The Sabres overall goaltending even with Lyon is below average. Lyon is maybe going to play 45-50 games and Ellis and UPL haven't shown they are good enough. Even if Lyon keeps up his 3+ GA play, that still isn't good enough for a team scoring 2.8. We need stellar goaltending to make the playoffs. Lyon is giving us average goaltending at best. His 3-5-3 record shows that we are still struggling to win even with him playing "well." I've also shown you that the defense is actually improved year over year statistically and the goaltenders, despite less SCA and HDCA and the No 1 PK, are still near the bottom of the league in GA off any SC or HDCA. They simply aren't good enough to elevate this lousy team into contention. It's going to take more than improved defense to help our goalies including Lyon.
  13. Didn't like Kesselring's game, not going to miss him.... so long as Bryson only gets 4 shifts per game.
  14. All Tage has to say is "I don't want to be here" and he'll instantly be dealt for a small bag of used pucks.
  15. Yes, like the Bruins did getting Minten from the Leafs for Carlo. Leafs blew that one big time. Sabres need a similar type deal if they do move Tuch. For sure. A high pick AND a roster player for next year.
  16. Except for one thing. Goalies are weird and have fragile egos. Lyon carried them early. Lyon earned the top role. Lyon gets pulled early but told it's not you it's me wanting a momentum shift but then Lyon doesn't get the net. What's in Lyon's head now? It's just weird handling all around and they need to ditch one of them and say these are the two (Ellis and Lyon imo) and end the nonsense. If they can get Edmonton to play wide open (which Edmonton can fall into) they can win this but the PK better still be good to say the least.
  17. Again, I’m not disagreeing with any of this. But if you trade him, you have to get someone that is the other teams best NHL ready prospect. Any first round pick outside the top five is five years away from being useful.
  18. Forgot all about that. 👍 I hated that pick the moment it happened.
  19. I would suggest it's more important these days to see who is on the last year of a deal and I think that is both Ruff and Adams. I also think it's obvious that Pegula kept Adams around because he is a yes man that defers final decisions to the big boss and Terry wants it that way. He doesn't trust the "hockey people" and he thinks he knows better. It's just that simple.
  20. And they only played him for 4 games last year, so it's not like they got much of anything from him.
  21. But there is always the pesky issue of choosing the RIGHT person.
  22. I like how he phrased this ownership change... he never said sell the team... could he be looking to his kids to own it?
  23. No, I don't see that. It requires a competent GM and a new philosophy but you can rebuild a different way. What it requires though is Pegula stepping away and letting that competent GM ruthlessly do his thing.
