  1. Past hour
  2. His consolidated rank is 9th, his EP rank is 6th. If Terry gets enamored because Penn State it wouldn't surprise me, it's the type of lazy doopy thing he's capable of. For me, I'd hate only from the standpoint of having to wait for the Owen Power trade that would eventually follow in 2-4yrs. I think Smith has more jam than Power has even dreamed of.
  3. 5-19.5 is... what... 6'8"... he skates really well for his height. Yes, I already read the end of the thread and he's a lock for top 8 because anyone will just list him at 5-11 on their roster anyway.
  4. It looks like right now he's signed with Kärpät for Liiga next season, but he could probably opt over to the AHL if Bakersfield has an opening. He's grown his game as a distributor with TPS (probably too much as he plummeted to only 8 goals). I hope he gets to the AHL to show what he can do on the NA ice.
  5. Memory certainly does need refreshing. Eichel wasn’t named captain for another year and a half when bylsma got canned
  6. Personally, absolutely nothing. Trade the pick, Martin, Carbonneau would be this kid's personal preference atm. But, seeing PS gets that Spidersense tingling.
  7. Actually, the real question is would Jackson Smith end up better than Owen Power?
  8. Well, it wasn't Jessica, but Coco Gauff is the first American to win the French Open since Serena's last in 2015.
  9. Do you consider your hobby the sabres or critiquing the fanbase? Actually asking ”the tearing down of Jarmo.” - come on now you are just seeing what you want to see. You are so damn afraid of actually putting your stake in the ground re: having some small quantum level of expectation that you refuse to even play ball: you won’t even give Jarmo a chance to succeed and maybe fail, wait and see what fans might do if we actually find some level of success. You know if the team succeeds the fans will be happy and credit him. But you also know it may very well never get to that point (as we’ve seen for 14 years) so you are happy gaslighting fans telling them they never WOULD be happy even if success did come - knowing full well it likely won’t come so your theory won’t be tested pure troll behaviour - do better, if you have it in you
  10. None. What are you doing with another LHD though? Carbonneau and Bear and two guys I would really love to see the Sabres get.
  11. Good intel Taro! No doubt that Zito has been very good. There was probably more going on with C-Bus and you can also assume that Zito learned some things from Jarmo too.
  12. I would not say he checked out, he is still very involved and he cares. Covid was a catalyst that led him to scale back the PSE empire. He unloaded their bars/restaurants and some other businesses, on the sports side the Sabres took the brunt of the cost cuts leading to Boterill's exit and a massive layoff in Sabreland. The Bills are successful and thankfully he supports them full throttle. We should all thank McDermott and Beane for knowing how to run a football team. Adams has since re-built the Sabres FO and he carefully built it back with people that cannot (or will not) challenge him. In the past he eschewed the need for senior advisors and more experienced people in the FO ranks. That changed two seasons ago when he said he would look for an "NHL veteran coach that will hold the players accountable". That coach search was nothing more than Terry reuniting with Lindy, a guy he knows and likes (sothey say. Two more significant items regarding Adams: 1. Adams has said Terry is not preventing him to spend to thecap, so he is taking the hot on that. (Although according to Fairburn every roster move gets run by Terry, even the Jokiharju trade for a 4th rounder). 2. Adams has now taken on an assistant (Staal) and also brought in a Sr Advisor to report to him (Jarmo). Adams has prior relationships with both of these men. Both hires would get little attention on a normal team, but in Buffalo they are significant moves. Adams has 1 year left on his contract, a successful year could lead to a move up to a "President of something" position, hopefully out of Hockey Operations but more likely a POHO buffer between Terry and the rest of the FO. In Jarmo they have a good hockey guy that may be getting a tryout as the next GM. It's easy to blame it all on Terry since he is the one truly accountable, but I think we are seeing that Adams inexperience as a GM, highlighted by bad moves and non-moves, has been just as big a factor in the problems surrounding the team. The later comes as no surprise. Adams past reluctance to get help in the form of FO senior execs a (common practice in the NHL) could have been initially due to budget constraints, but maybe not entirely. So is Terry out of touch? To a degree yes, it is well documented that he over-estimates his hockey knowledge, and it is exacerbated by his selection of a GM that was on no teams radar as an up and coming NHL Executive. He and Adams set the strategy that is failing, and its a strategy that no other team use. The hope is that Lindy can still coach, and that Jarmo can help them sort out which players/prospects to keep and what roster moves to make.
  13. Hmm...actually probably not, I am a physical specimen. I do wish he was a Sabre tho...those type of players you always hate unless they are on your team 😅
  14. Penn State you say? How much of a reach would he be at 9?
  15. I started to get excited about a few of these top guys from reading LGR's posts. I had a love/hate relationship with us winning late.
  16. Refresh our memories. Why did Bylsma wait 7 years for another NHL HC job after getting canned by the Sabres? And, why did he get canned after only 1 season back as THE man in the show?
  17. Martone to Chicago seems way too logical 1. Schaefer 2. Misa 3. Martone 4. ???? Martin? Hagens? Frondell? Other??
  18. Today
  19. No. Not tearing him down. Simply adding context. He IS the most successful GM the BJs have had. The entirely of the team successes they earned during his tenure corresponded directly to the years that Zito was working for Kekalainen. Even stated in the original post about this that it is a correlation and not necessarily causation. He was the GM for roughly 11 years. The team was reasonably successful (and compared to the rest of their existance, extremely successful) in the 1st 7 years that he was the GM. They were not successful in the nearly 4 full seasons after that (and only in this last season with him removed from the picture have they shown the possibility that they MAY once again be relatively successful). And am 100% hoping HE is as good as we need him to be. Expecting in one way or another that he'll be here for the next 4 or so years (and if the team is successful in that stretch (PLEEEEEAAAAASE) for significantly longer than that) so we need him to be good. He's been aggressive, even after Zito left, and he did something NOBODY expected in landing Gaudreau and doing it without having to outbid everyone by a significant margin. There are things to like about him. He'd had coursework prior to going to college and because of that managed to graduate in only 2 years. He's been a GM on both sides of the pond; he started out very briefly as an agent; and has held several roles within the hockey departments of some pretty good teams prior to becoming the BJ GM. There also is the fact that his successes as GM correlate extremely well with the time Zito was working for him.
  20. I started a thread. Idk if anyone cares much but maybe.
  21. Never questioned his smarts, questioned why he thought he was smarter than others and yeah, he does come off like that, saying trope words, saying all the robotic things so it can explain away. Maybe the problem is that media just accepts it and doesn't delve. Shame on them, but as far I am concerned he his just a mannequin dressed for success in a window hawking wares on Main Street when 50 years ago it mattered.
  22. Refresh my memory. Why did the Sabres fire Dan Bylsma? Was it to appease a certain premature captain?
  23. Justin Carbonneau is 6'1.25" 205lbs
