How would you retool this team this summer?
Flashsabre replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I would take a shot at signing Freddie Andersen and punting UPL. Andersen gets hurt but he’s a hell of a goalie when he can play. Get a couple quality defensive Dmen. Biggest thing is change up the coaching staff. Someone who excels at special teams and a D coach that can implement structure. -
Friedman believes changes are coming to Sabres Front Office; UPL Available?
LGR4GM replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I disagree. Karmanos has a lot of front office experience between Buffalo and Pittsburgh. He's been here and helped draft most of the young guys while also knowing Rochester and Buffalo players. I don't think he would need patience as he should know the team and org well. Whether or not he would act decisively is another matter. -
The other thing is that the Bills took a committee approach to catching passes last year. Looking at one single game ignores the fact that a different receiver was leading the way each week. The two guys in question were 4th and 6th on the team in total reception yards. So go pick some other game randomly and you’ll be pretty likely to see the other guys leading the way.

By inference that because we lost X amount of receiving yards from one game that those in charge of building the team are screwing up by not seeing the reason for concern that you clearly see. Of course you ignore the yet-to-be realized receiving yardage from new Bills receivers Josh Palmer and now Elijah Moore. That's not even counting the yards from a fully healthy Curtis Samuel. And of course being only May 1, there's still over 4 months before the start of the season and players sign at any time. Invent a problem, complain about said problem. You'd think this regime earned some benefit of the doubt with their record. Apparently not.

This is a great year to trade the pick. I just don’t want Adams to be the one trading it.

Sure talked him up on Friedman’s podcast. As in “there are employed coaches worried they might get shoved aside”. And “he’s not leaving the east but if he could Jim Rutherford would stuff him in a trunk and smuggle him into Vancouver.” As far as they were concerned, it was the Rangers unless for some reason he was not interested. Runner-up Boston because that's where he’s from. Also said his contract would set the new bar.

Friedman believes changes are coming to Sabres Front Office; UPL Available?
Taro T replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
He seems decent. Except for 2 SC Championship runs he's had limited playoff success at the NHL level. (But did we mention his teams won 2 SC's.) He was a HC in the AHL twice and both times he got promoted to the parent team before the season was completed as his teams were killing it at the AHL level. The fact he's had success at the NHL level and at the AHL level would indicate that he could be the right coach for this team. As the Pens got longer in the tooth, his success dwindled and his Bruin squad coming out of THE lockout was attrocious but that was another one that was old and absolutely not built for the "new" NHL. Of reasonably realistic options, he's probably the best of the experienced coaches that would possibly be willing to come here. (They aren't hiring Gallant and Boudreau was already rebuffed a few years back. And didn't Tocchet tell them to pound salt a long time ago as well?) IMHO TB overperformed this year. They're getting very long in the tooth even with the couple of veteran swapouts they made this year. Can't see any way they'd be dumb enough to cut Cooper loose. -

How good is Sullivan? Honestly curious on ppls take on him. He's had Crosby forever so that helps but also, he seems pretty decent. -

And Karmanos could have in person discussions with Sullivan without either of them having to hop on a plane. "Fancy meeting you here at the Steel City Timmy Ho's; care for a cup of joe and a discussion on what would fix the Sabres PP (besides sending Appert into the sun)? So the airport watchers and other tea leaf readers wouldn't even have to have an inkling anything was going on. -

Anything, for the love of God just do something to show the status quo isn't acceptable. -
McAvoy/Sergachev and Kyrou/DeBrincat would've given this team a very different look in 2018-19 and 2019-2020 (COVID tourney year).

Well, no, but I do admittedly get a chuckle out of the conversation all arriving back at “the draft is meaningless for improving our hockey team” Ya, we are gonna get a good player no matter who we take! The steal of the draft, I am sure. And so will every other team picking in our vicinity. There’s no relative gain, can only lose ground. Adams has proven drafting isn’t a means to an improvement end, not without other vital components Survey says: the luster on it is lost. Used to be a huge draft guy, planned my lake weekend around it

Florida doesn't have 30% of their cap tied up in 4 lhd, 3 of which we could argue provide a similar style of player. Also Adams sucks at contracts outside of Tages.

Guelli is the COO. But your point still stands. He is clearly the chief business strategy officer of the Sabres and Bills. Interestingly (??), I don't readily see that either the Bills or Sabres have a CFO. I also just noticed that the Bills website now has a very skinny listing of front office people. The webpage lists Terry, Kim, Beane, McDermott, and Guelli. Nobody else. Also, shoutout to Terry who is wearing a Sabres tie in his headshot on the Bills website. https://www.buffalobills.com/team/front-office-roster/

2016 in particular makes me want to throw up. Nylander & Asplund (trade up) were a complete waste of draft capital. Add to that the fact we drafted Hagel and then never signed hm rubs more salt into the wound.

Would you prefer they get bad players in the draft?
