Sabres to place Alexandar Georgiev on waivers today
dudacek replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Yeah, I thought Georgiev was gonna fail from the beginning, but I’ve got no issues with trying, failing and quickly moving on when the alternative was doing nothing except crossing your fingers UPL was going to be OK -

Other than Georgiev, and his immediate family, I feel like most people would be happy with Adams for upgrading. -
So.... You're suggesting that they knew from the onset that the injury was worse with a longer time frame to recovery, and therefore signed Georgiev for the entire season rather than a PTO? And then they rushed their #1 goalie back for a meaningless preseason game (in a season that is 6 months long) rather than let him recover fully while Lyon/Levi or Lyon/Georgiev held down the fort? That's even worse than the other options.

It’s not shocking. Good decision. -
I wonder why we didn’t just trade for this guy. Seems like a decent prospect, but it’s an all (succeeds in NHL by some miracle) or nothing (sinks because he came up too early, is waived, and goes back to STL) situation. Maybe they didn’t want to hurt Devon’s feelings? Maybe it’s best to give him as much time as possible and we make the decision in the later half of the year. Another wasted season though.

Your observation about me is correct. I have lost patience with this owner. A generation of his foolishness has become intolerable for me. He has eroded what should be a vibrant hockey market to being an apathetic market that is irrelevant to the hockey world. I wish this stubborn and non- talking owner would sail away in his tax write off big boat. You are being silly.

They are going to get drunk. I'm guessing the Bandits will outdraw them again this year.

Yet another reason to despise Adams! -
He's probably hoping the Sabres tank so he has more time to devote to fantasy sports 🙉

A sellout is good -- with luck, they'll arrive early and give the players audible cheers (over the TV feed, maybe the new sound system will help with that) during the introductions. And even better is if the home team, from the opening shift, is engaged and playing hard to give the fans additional reasons to cheer, much like in 2021-22 -- a 5-1 opening night win vs. Montreal. It was post-COVID and the building was empty for the opening ceremonies. But Okposo and returned-from-busted-leg Girgensons set the tone on the first shift and the building got loud (on TV) because the team showed they cared. No flat starts.

This, absolutely I hate the sabres in many ways. Hate what they’ve become. I also love them dearly and always will. Hate and love have always been 2 sides of the same coin, and that coin is passion. im totally comfortable with this. Hate isn’t the fear. Neglect is far more dangerous in this world and always has been. Apathy is the fear.

I’m not looking forward to his first game against Ryan O’Reilly.

How right does one need to be? I called out the imminent failure of Adams’ plan from day numero uno. Literally to a T told you how and why it would fail. It’s been 14 years, man. Not only have folks been proven right, they can no longer be proven wrong. everything in moderation. It’s time for a playoff berth and I think we can all agree on that
-
It’s easier to write off one of 12 forward slots than it is 1 of 6 on D. Were they down any D back when all of that happened? Im not crazy about carrying the guy, but I could see him shuttling back and forth a lot. Is he Rempe insurance for game 1 and then he’s down already?
-
He scraps, he defends himself, he agitates, but his is not going to deter someone from taking liberties. Same with Benson and a few others. The team needs a fighter that can play a regular shift.
-
So if they mutually agree to part ways and then the contract doesn’t get paid, it winds up essentially as a PTO. I don’t know, I get NHL or nothing vibes from this one and now that they’re not interested, he’ll leave.
-
I'm not prepared to dig in again, but the number of 6-9 defencemen that have come through here over Adams' tenure is off the charts long.

You forgot the willing lightweight Krebs.

This is interesting to me. I'd say for a large portion of this board it's more of a love-hate relationship: most seem to care deeply but it's not a warm and forgiving win-or-lose kinda love, more the love of a repeatedly let down or betrayed spouse or parent. Very few around here are the "we'll get 'em next time" types. I have no frame of reference for the more typical fan in and around Buffalo, but I suspect Sabrespace is not reflective of the "typical" fan. But I think back to the '80s Canucks teams of my youth who had a similar level of success to the Adams Sabres. Sure plenty of fans grumbled and tickets were easy to come by, but generally they still loved their Tony Tantis, hated the Flames and Oilers, and were ready to jump back on the bandwagon given the slightest opportunity. Those kinda fans just kinda fade when things aren't good, whereas most Sabrespace types stay invested and spend their time venting to their online friends.

They are all winnable games, Boston, Ottawa and Canadiens are about level with Buffalo. Florida is not the same without Barkov and Tkachuk. Rangers are only better in net while Colorado lacks depth and I am not sure if their goaltending holds up. Wild cards are Sabres goaltending and the health of the D corps.
