Not getting a #1 "bonified" goalie is bad, but taking a chance on this guy is not idiotic. Idiotic would have been going with Georgiev as your #2
-
Who would you have gotten?
-
Got tix to the event for my kids, not sure if they went or not. We've been busy lately. Glad you had a good time.
-
That’s my point. Why are UPL, Lyon, Georgiev and now Ellis the best options in net. Basically the goaltending is so bad, I’m not sure this team has a chance.
-
Great autograph event at KBC. Every current Sabre was there. I got every player on my black Goat head jersey, except for Tage. He signed a white #72 jersey for me. Ryan Johnson was by far the most into meeting the fans. People were congratulating him for make the big club and he really appreciated it. Pictures as soon as Postimages starts working again.
-
Who else would you want? Their #1 Luukkonen is on the IR.
-
2-2-2 Formation Two forwards Two Defensemen Two Goalies

Interesting. Whoever had 14-6-3 on their card when camp opened, please share whatever it is you're on. Guess if a D-man not named Dahlin gets hurt, until they can get an emergency callup of Jones, they'd run Dahlin for 30-32 minutes; Byram for 26-28; leaving the other 3 ~20 minutes each hoping for a LOT of PP time.

Again, you are making huge leaps about who know what when.

What is the vision for the roster? I get the injuries to Power and Kesselring jumbled the D group, but Lyon, Georgiev and Ellis in net? I get pick by up Ellis. His AHL numbers are very good and he wasn’t displacing Binnington but why keep Georgiev? Why does Geersten bring? He hasn’t played in the NHL is 3-4 years. I like Kozak, but where does he fit?

I don’t disagree with you. But I’m pretty sure Lindy Ruff does. I said in the summer that Geertsen was targeted - by Lindy - to be used in this specific role, I’ve seen nothing to change my mind. This is a coach who has already got - from his own mouth - three Swiss Army knives on the roster (Danforth, Krebs and McLeod). It’s a coach who likes to roll his top 9 hard and use his 4th liners situationally. And it’s a coach who sat Andrew Peters on the bench for 55 minutes a game, and played him 55 games a year. I’d say it’s less deterrent than it is response, but Geertsen is getting the final roster spot.

I wonder if it's too late for me to try out for the team? I'm in my 60's, can't skate, and have a strained knee, but maybe they need a 4th goalie?

Kesselring and UPL are week to week with their injuries

I like the line combo's I just read. The D is something I have to see. I wouldn't mind seeing Johnson on D, since he passes the puck well to forwards breaking out of the zone. -
Yes, or a guy we just claim off of waiver might have to actually start real games for us. That sinking feeling....🤢
-
Should have as soon as season ended. He was our best goalie by far

Sabres Waiver Claim Colten Ellis

Then Levi might have to come up. -
There’s also the possibility that Ellis winds up as the better option between him and Lyon. If that happens, you cross that. Ridge when you get there.

Johnson belongs, Bryson can’t leave soon enough.

Look, the Cheats played their absolute best possible game. 100 on a scale of 100. The Bills did not, and no team in any sport ever does play at 100 for every single game. Bills were 65 at best out of 100. If the Cheats at 100 can barely beat the Bills at 65, I'm ok. And those uniforms are NCAA D-III garbage.

The eye test says both: Bryson and Georgiev can go. Johnson won the #7 and personally, I'd keep Kozak as he can give you better, more versatile forward minutes as center or wing -- he's a Danforth type. I know Ruff loves Geertsen, but ... you have to dress him every game to actually be able to use him as a deterrent, and that's hardly likely because a 5-minute forward is almost useless in today's regular season games. (Florida/Tampa's silly exhibition over the weekend was exactly that -- an exhibition. They'll be civil in all the games that matter where their top lines are dressed.) Plus, Geertsen is hardly a deterrent -- Noesen won't be intimidated by him. They'll do a faceoff-based fight this season and that'll be the end of it.
