  1. Past hour
  2. Does anyone even know who the refs names anymore? I’m old and I can recall Hood, Armstrong, McCreary, Friday, Van Hellemond, Harris, Lewis, McCauley, and even linesmen like John D’Amico and Ray Scampanella. The Refs names were announced at the Aud by Milt Ellis, and on airwaves by Ted and RJ. It was part of the event.
  3. Lankinen is the only “back-up” goalie I can think of who signed that level of contract. The other goalies who are back-ups and make UPL or better money, are guys whose games have fallen apart (Grubauer, Merzlikins, Jarry). Maybe Lankinen’s deal is an indication of where back-up goalie salaries are headed with an increasing cap. a 4.75 AAV is still a little rich for a back-up though, I think.
  4. By points percentage. Not by points. Needed to not just outplay the Wild the day before but actually beat them to have been able to say they were there by both metrics on Eat Turkey/ Watch Football Day.
  5. FYI: for everyone who thinks UPL's contract makes him unmovable, Elliotte Friedman called UPL's deal "at par with an NHL backup."
  6. All it takes is one of the subs that make up that consortium to be willing to offer a policy and then there's a policy. (Lloyd's is a really interesting entity.) And, don't see any reason why at least someone wouldn't be willing to write up a policy. There is a cap to what the full payment would be. We're talking salary insurance, not health insurance which he already has through the league's group policy. So, the only question in setting a premium is having an actuary determine what the likelihood of him suffering a significant injury is. And, again, it very well might not make sense from the Pegula's perspective to get insurance for his contract because it will be extremely expensive. Though they MIGHT have gotten it after he'd been cleared as fully recovered from the shoulder and abdomin injuries and it's also possible that the contract was already insured by the Otters back when they gave him the LT deal. Recall, LaFontaine's contract had been insured back in the day and the Sabres collected on the policy; even after he'd suffered some pretty severe injuries.
  7. They were in a playoff spot on American Thanksgiving last year ...
  8. Oh yeah. I forgot about Helenius. I wonder how he’d look as 3C.
  9. Jackets leading TOR 5-1. Olivier with 3 assists.
  10. I don’t think the evidence supports this. They traded one of their best players for Levi. Then they gave Levi two chances to run with an NHL job, much earlier than pretty much any other NHL team would have. Comrie, Lyon, Georgiev, and Ellis are all small goalies by NHL standards. So are recent draft picks Ratzlaff and Leenders. UPL’s 2023-24 season dwarfs anything Levi has done in his career; perhaps it didn’t justify the contract, but it would have been some kind of weird if UPL didn’t get an opportunity to be the starter last year. And, all indications are that Lyon is now the starter.
  11. Actually they probably wouldn't. I have a few friends in the specialty insurance business and they said he is uninsurable.
  12. Of course Lloyd's would be willing to insure it. But not necessarily at a price that makes sense from the Sabres perspective.
  13. Y'all are assuming that the contract is insurable. Given his history, I doubt even Lloyds would write the policy.
  14. 4-1 after 2. Leschyshyn PP goal. That's the final. Record 6-2-0 .750. Two in Laval Fri and Sat.
  15. Today
  16. I'd send Östlund down, bring up Helenius to play center and move Greenway to the 4th line where he belongs.
  17. Yes I did 🤣 in that case, I want that Olivier? Guy. The best one who was trying to start ***** all game.
  18. He might not be that easy to move. He has 2 year one way contract for a bit over 800k. Across the ice from him tonight. Hunter Sheppard. 2 time Calder cup winner and lead the AHL in goals against one year. Left the Caps to sign with Ottawa on a 1 year 2 way contract. Levi must be asking himself, is that my future?
  19. I don’t think they should move him. At least not this year. Ellis likely doesn’t clear waivers when the 3 headed monster is resolved. Levi is important for Rochester whether he likes it or not.
  20. The Sabres are 4-4-2 this season so far They started 0-3 Won 4 of the next 5, thus 4-4 and now have lost two straight on OT, thus 0-0-2
  21. Bad news... Cheapest now for game 6 or game 7 around 1700$ a ticket... Ain't no way that's happening.
  22. Here's the thing for me. It was similar the year we ended up a point behind Florida as well. I think there are positive signs, there are roster improvements, there are a number of good things, but I still think we end up a little on the outside. As such I think this is a moment not to be lost and if you want to build forward it's the time for some bold moves and immediate roster improvements. get just a little bit better and we might just get in like Montreal did last year and then you can really build. If you can move prospects or picks now for roster veterans or disgruntled players like a Chinakov we should do it and do it now. Forget about when Norris might come back and get a top 6 forward now. I really don't want Kevyn in charge but since he is, he needs to make the moves. Don't let this opportunity slip away thinking next year we will be even better. Be better NOW. Unfortunately I think Kev will be conservative and believe too much in his own guys and previous moves and then we will have Tuch issues and other people wanting out, Maybe Levi, maybe more and it can all go back down the dumper real fast. Don't miss the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. If it's prospects/picks I make this move in a heartbeat. In terms of roster I would not be unhappy moving out Quinn and moving Chinakov in instead.
  24. If it's true. If he wants to be moved, just move him. Solves the the too many goalies issue. This team needs to start acting like a real franchise. Ditch him if he don't like it. He didn't earn it, so it's not his. We keep Ellis that way.
