RFK Jr. is off the rails crazy. To think what Trump and Co. have done to the preeminent organizations of their kind in the entire world, where the entire world once came to learn, develop and share new breakthroughs, is a travesty. We are far, far worse off than we were before these incompetents took control.

It will take money, a whole of lotta of money, but the challenge is there. Zito is Theo, he really has a pipeline with Jaarmo here. For all his brilliance, not denying he is way more smarter than the collective of us putzs who think we got this, if Florida hires a boss for him to report to, that is a slam, maybe he's okay with that, but he is wired differently, in a good way. Granted pipe dream but what the heck, the voice in Sabreland has spent 2 months in Chautauga Lake did 2 days on July 1st and 2nd... Crickets...

My recollection is he played a fair part of 1 season at center when we had a couple of injuries or something up front. It didn’t last beyond the roster issue. And had a few games the next season. He definitely was not drafted as a 2 position player. He was all D in high school. I do seem to recall it “tainted” a 20 goal season as he did play forward for a notable portion of the season.

Understand….that is why they are MY opinions. Do you disagree with what I said upthread?
-
I know he played a couple in November of his rookie year. I think I remember they sent Andreychuk back to juniors and Housley moved up front. I think maybe a couple more times his rookie year and then maybe once more later in his career.

It has to be Luukkonen. If he can get his 2023/24 second half season form, the Sabres should be in a good position to seriously compete for a playoff spot. I think that's the easiest path for the Sabres to make a push. They are a pretty solid EV team, have a good defense (on paper) and can score on most nights. Goaltending holds them back. Not what you asked but besides Luukkonen i think fixing the PP is next important. Lastly, my dark horse for this season is Jack Quinn. Think he's primed for a big season.

I remember hearing Paul Hamilton talk about Housley a few years back on WGR and he said Housley played like 20 games as a center, fwiw.

Would You Overpay and Make Zito POHO?
Two or less replied to Standing Room Smoking Cigs's topic in The Aud Club
If this is true, and Pegula hasn't been able to get any tips from him that his hockey club could use some changes, i highly doubt after winning 2 Stanley Cup's Zito would become interested helping out. -

Would You Overpay and Make Zito POHO?

Zito wants to get the 3 peat. He is also going to help Team USA pick their Olympic roster so he is going to be a busy man. Agree he could take the job simply for the huge challenge. He was born in Pittsburgh, grew up in Wisconsin, went to college at Yale and played varsity hockey there. He became a lawyer to pay for that Yale education. He was a sports agent, and then a hockey front office guy, then the Florida GM. He is not a fancy guy, he is a gritty worker that relates to people. Pegula allegedly had him in his final two and he took Boterill. Seattle had him in their final two and they took Francis. If Zito ever leaves Florida it will be for huge money and complete control. Terry can do both but will he ever? Making Buffalo a Cup winner would be the biggest challenge he could tackle. -
Definitely. You are Gtown Sabres, correct?
-
Ok, that’s only 8 committed so far.
-
With proper financial planning (which all have access to and are directed to these days), his great grandkids are already set for life.
-
Did he grow up next door to Joe Sakic? How much more money does he need to be set and have his children set for life? Know the answer to the 1st one. And though don't know the answer to the 2nd one, expect that whatever it is it's less than he'll end up getting in a 7-8 year deal with the Sabres. 😉 And would be quite surprised that without some major unforseen shock to the professional hockey system there would be a lockout in 2030.
-
It absolutely might be. Waiting is riskier. But it only takes one "all-in" (foolish) owner who watches the NBA/NFL. The early era Pegula. For example, the Avs could easily have a top-line opening if Necas goes to UFA, and they really only need to set aside cash for a Makar extension in the long-term. Would you rather have guaranteed cash and have Norris/Kulich as your center for 7 years or angle for 3x$10M to play with McKinnon/Nelson and hunt some Cups before the CBA expires and there's the next lockout in 2030?
-
Eh, signing now might be the better play. We don't know exactly when all of the terms of the next CBA kick in, but we know there is a high likelihood some/many of them will kick in THIS season rather than 1 year from now. IF the 6/7 year maxes are introduced before or at the beginning of the next jeague year in July, his signing a deal taking him to 37 could work out much better for him than signing a deal at a higher annual rate that only goes through age 35. Big men don't tend to have the seriously long careers unless their freaks of nature like Chara. If he were younger when his current deal ends, you could very well be onto something. But he and Adams/Pegula can factor those projected cap increases into what he signs for and they can know they're effectively prorating his salary from the 5 years he'll still be useful into an 8 year deal and any buyout or retirement adjustments at the end likely won't be crippling to the team for a myriad of reasons (some good and some not so good 😉 ).

Your response makes no sense to me. I am assuming that he will sign. And that will be a good thing. Signing an extension with one of your own players is what is normally done. You seem to portray it as if it is an exceptional act. It’s not. It’s how most franchises conduct business. And maybe you are not aware of it but not making the playoffs for a generation is not an example of a normally functioning franchise. That’s why I expected a little more action by the GM this offseason.
