Well it is basically the 4 firsts for an allstar price tag that the NHL set for offer sheets way back. It's kind of the standard. You have to hand it to Minnesota for going for it. There's a team that knows they have to be better now to get out of that "group of death" (using the World Cup term). It's likely an overpay if they don't sign him to an extension, but if they do, he's the best player in the deal and thus they win the deal. Isn't that the rule? idk, let's ask Eichel or Reinhart 🙂

All I can say for sure is "The Hockey Guy" (who is a Canucks fan) is really really not happy.

I watched The Hockey Guy's (members only) video where he comments on the trade.  He lives in Canucks territory and they're his #1 rooting interest.  He basically sounds like Sabrespace in the aftermath of the Eichel trade.  He even called the Canucks the worst run team in the history of the NHL.  He's pretty despondent.

We all know how he feels.

Nobody wants his ridiculous contract. Or the locker room cancer.

I think the Hughes trade is the start of a major rebuild in Vancouver,  which means they could retain a big part of EP40s salary, if they get a good return.

Is Hughes as good as Dahlin (or better or worse?)

How would everyone feel if Buffalo had a new GM and  traded Dahlin for that return?

I don't like the return. Rossi is good. Ohgren, Buium, and a 2026 1st are all mystery boxes.

If you're trading Dahlin, I need something like 2026 1st, Sam Dickinson,  Will Smith. Igor Chernysov. Some will be mad I'm not saying more established players but that's never how these trades work.

Hughes is not as good a two way player as Dahlin. He is like Makar, smaller super skilled D man that use that speed and skill to get the puck where it needs to go. The trade was about circumstance. If the new GM made that trade I would want the old one back. It wouldn't happen though because Dahlin is under contract for longer and I don't think a new GM is going to come in and do a full rebuild. The Quinn trade was so similar to the Eichel trade they must have used it as a blueprint. So far that helped Vegas a lot more than it helped us and I expect this will have a similar result.

Marty and Duff were asking Shana Goldman a few weeks ago about how good the Thompson contract looks compared to the new signings. Her reply was the best looking one was Dahlin's and I could see her point. If he were to hit the market today your probably looking at 15 million per year or more. So that will be the issue with Quinn when it comes time. I am sure the Wild will be willing. Now it will be up to Quinn.

I would hate it if Dahlin was traded, period. No one else on this team can carry the puck our of our own zone like he can, and that's just the least of his assets. If Dahlin was on some other team we'd all be wishing we could trade half our team for him. Under a new GM, anyone else could go, but not Dahlin.

People will argue over who is better, but Dahlin is a more valuable commodity at this point thanks to the 6 years left on his contract.
