This is why i don’t really agree with the Adams hot seat stuff. He’s probably been allotted a mere half the amount of time he needs to right this

I imagine TP’s daughter is getting an earful of “you need a better face to the franchise” at the governors meeting.  This could justify kicking KA up to a behind the scenes role (POHO?) and promoting Jarmo to GM and new face to the public.   A strong off season could facilitate that.

Well you may be correct, I would say if he takes positive steps this year ( and that would mean a playoff appearance I would bet he is back... if we stagnate or get worse... who knows he still could be back... I dont get Pegula... but I would say that would be a tough one for him to swallow...  but honestly, I dont know if he is on the hot seat... cause I dont know what is in Pegula's brain... I just dont..

Adams is going to be the GM for the foreseeable, for me likely liveable future

I mean he’s earned it

Forget the Sabres future, this Byram trade needs to be knocked out of the park if for nothing else but Thorny’s well being

I don’t post or contribute much but I have been scrolling the board since about 2018ish, and this reaction might be the strongest one I’ve ever seen here lol

you can correct me on that if I am mistaken

Thorny’s sarcasm game has gotten so good this went unchallenged.

Good.

This Crest and it’s fans deserve a better class of criminal standing up for it…and I’m gonna give it ‘em

I also think we will see it play out that Byram has more value than peterka - history is shown that wingers is even very, very good ones are worth less than top 4 defenseman in trades

the hierarchy I think is

1C

RHD top 4

2C/LHD top 4

top line winger

stud goalie

3c/ top 6 winger

etc…

From what I heard on WGR from Dreger yesterday, apparently teams didn't want to give up a RHD for Byrum since they were acquiring a D, they didn't want to basically tread water there. Caused multiple teams to drop out. He said now that they got their RHD for Peterka, the teams that dropped out over not wanting to give up a RHD have jumped back in the mix...said now there are 7-8 teams very interested instead of only 3-4.

Thinks the move was done because they realized the overall value they would be able to get back would be higher trading Peterka for a RHD and then asking for a forward back for Byrum.

Do you put any stock in the word today Byram’s market is “lighter than expected” or is that nonsense?

You certainly conjured splendid imagery of the great Scott Stevens there

I mean it makes sense logically. If you are trying to bolster your defense corp, why would you want to trade away a defenseman in return? Seems to not make much sense.

It would certainly be, that’s a great catch. But here’s what you’ve missed: last I checked the sabres have improved year over year under Adams tenure

If improved is picking #9 at the draft rather than 5 or 6 or 7 or even eight, all the time not making the playoffs, then I guess they have improved. When does the parade start?

Great - but then what's Adams plan for Dahlin's partner?

In the running for most positive initial reactions to a sabres trade I’ve seen, overwhelmingly positive at nearly 2-1. Say what you want about Adams but the more time goes by the more his work is being greeted with praise

Am HOPING the reason for this is that people are still (for whatever reason) expecting that this will be part of a series of moves that end up netting the Sabres a better team.  Getting 75-80% value for Peterka is not good.  IF that extra $5.5MM in cap space gets used and the team actually improves, well then its one of those "don't like the piece, but like the whole" sort of situations.

And MAYBE with Kekalainen in house, Adams finally does work a series of moves in conjunction that all end up netting the Sabres a better team.  But personally won't believe it until that $5.5MM saved gets spent (and not just leaving the Sabres at $8MM under the cap again, am talking about having them spend that AND $5MM of that other $8MM) on players that improve the Sabres AND some gets spent on the guys Adams has been saving that money for (read Tuch, McLeod, and maybe somebody else, but not sure that anybody else is at the point that their contract is up in the next year AND they're at a point where the long LT deal makes sense (of course no more 7&8 year deals next year, so maybe you still give some of those out because you can and after next year you have to start dropping to 6&7 year deals)).

Because only if that money gets spent will the team actually be widening the margin for error they have.  They have intentionally cut it razor thin after Adams 1st season.  And it bites them in the bippy every single time.  Widen the margin for error and give yourself some runway to actually get this thing off the ground.  Staying ridiculously young (and somehow with this trade they got younger) and staying ridiculously below the cap only go to narrow that margin for error.

But personally am leaning towards 'no' on the deal with what happens in the next 2 weeks having a huge influence on how THIS deal gets viewed.  How do we criticize Adams for looking at all deals as individual pieces with no true rhyme nor reason to them and then intentionally go and view each one as a one off on its own?  We CAN do it; we aren't getting paid to be here or to make the team better so we can do wtf we want; but IMHO it doesn't make sense to evaluate it entirely in the vacuum it currently resides.  My 2 cents.  YMMV.

I’d agree with the bold if not for the poll stipulating that only the now should be considered

as for the rest I generally agree - it’s not that they never leave themselves a chance for success, it’s that it’s as you say a razor thin margin, unacceptable of a team who absolutely owes it to fans to be putting things in best situation possible

And didn't vote in the poll because honestly think we need to wait at least untll July 4 or 5 to see what else happens.  It's like deciding whether a team drafted well on Canada Day.  Wtf knows if they did or didn't.  All those ratings evaluate whether the team agreed with the rater on what value draft picks had.  That tells us ABSOLUTELY nothing but gives the draftniks something else to discuss for a few weeks.  Again, my 2 cents.
