Sabres will score about 100 goals next season.

mid to high end talent (and their agents) will mainly not want to be stuck in WNY with this organization when other options exist.  The Bills went through this for 20 years pre-Allen

Tage Tuch and Kulich will score more than 100 goals next season

A lot of comments about wanting more for the trade...

Yeah, any trade you make you always want more. How often does a trade get made and if something else would have been thrown in we wouldn't have liked it?

But I think part of that comes down to Peterka having a bigger name, and having a better stat sheet. I'm not saying that he's not the better player of the trade... But sometimes when someone has a bigger name or a more impressive stat sheet, they're not always the better player.

Anyway, I'm trying to look at this positively but do I like to trade? Overall, Yeah. Why? Because it's likely a couple new players were going to have on the team we didn't have last year.

Short of winning... Or scoring a ton of goals... having new faces on the team and seeing how they integrate into the team gives me something to look forward to watching.

I view this as part of a double trade with Byrum.

Perhaps they felt by acquiring the RHD for Peterka, they could get something more valuable for Byrum which means the overall value of the combined haul they get would be better.

I don't think we can look at this trade in a vacuum.

I think Sabres may have paid a little goodwill for now, but I like the trade.  KA is finally adding the types of players needed to succeed.  Add these two to Dahlin, Tage, Tuch, Zucker, and Norris and  we are building a proper NHL core.

As good as JJ is on O, we needed a trade like this.  We’re a better team today.

Getting a big rhd who likes to use his size and is a huge organizational need, and a two way player with good pedigree and likes to be a pain to play against, over a brooding (and if Peters and Rivet are right, a party animal) bad body language, one way player who had a fantastic end to the season. (7 of his last 11 goals came in losses)

Some are too enamored with how many goals and assists JJ had. He’s  good player but we got better imo by becoming harder to play against and a change in culture. More moves come and this will look even better.

You make great points.

I like both players that we acquired. The Sabres are not so deep that we are in a position where we can only get better if we get the best player in a 2 for 1 trade. It may well work out.

Here is an issue I have. I don’t recall where I saw it, but this morning someone posted a current list of the NHL’s youngest teams based on current rosters. The Sabres are 3rd youngest. The teams around us are generally a who’s who of NHL teams that nobody thinks will make the playoffs in 2025-26.  Kesselring and Doan are both younger than our average age. That doesn’t mean that Kesselring and Doan are too young to help an NHL team win. But if a person thinks, as I do, that youth and inexperience were factors in our regression over the past two seasons, then Adams didn’t address that shortcoming with this trade.

Good point. I'll just toss this out, but from the accounts we have, maybe JJP was kind of immature, so while, perhaps, we didn't get older, maybe we got more of  character players in the trade. But ya, another vet probably would be a good idea

I also think we will see it play out that Byram has more value than peterka - history is shown that wingers is even very, very good ones are worth less than top 4 defenseman in trades

the hierarchy I think is

1C

RHD top 4

2C/LHD top 4

top line winger

stud goalie

3c/ top 6 winger

etc…

Agreed… After having some time to think about this if Doan becomes a 20/20 player with his style and some of his dad and him, kesselring is a good partner for power then this is a really great trade for us

There are now reports of other deals that KA passed on for JJP.  One was Noah Dobson from NY.

He was offered in a trade regarding Peterka; not necessarily 1 for 1

That had been debunked - a few of the Internet guys mostly Chad has said that he would not stay here… Also, he wants 10 or $11 million a year. I would not have wanted that trade. Nor does Rossi do anything for us in exchange for Peterka.

We may still see Byram for kyrou

And what good does too late first rounders plus roster dumps do for us?

looking at all the above, we took the best trade right?! Even if something is lacking. It’s still better than the deals above. There’s no way I’m paying Dobson $10 million a year.

what is a possible Norris Trophy worth?

This to me is a major major question... in my post I said if we did this to save money.. we have pain ahead... but if we did this to free up money for a big swing.. well then something different.

Our views mostly coincide. Where I slightly have a different view is that I’m not necessarily looking for a blockbuster deal. What I want are deals that improve and better shape (balance) the roster. With day to day exhibitions of competence you move forward; with constantly changing of plans you create consternation that gets you nowhere. I’m so freaking tired of this back and forth nonsense which is a roadmap to nowhere.

In the running for most positive initial reactions to a sabres trade I’ve seen, overwhelmingly positive at nearly 2-1. Say what you want about Adams but the more time goes by the more his work is being greeted with praise

I think this one has Lindy’s fingerprints all over it.

It’s funny cause at first most people said “well it depends on Byram return, there’s another part to this” but now word is that market is weak - thankfully as the poll illustrates the move is a home run even without the follow up - with a strong Byram trade for at least a bottom 6 forward I think we can already mark offseason down as an “A” and we haven’t even reached the draft yet…Adams’ forte 🙂

Keep Byram (paired with Dahlin), sign Ehlers for LW, trade samuelson for whatever = problems solved

This team would be much better than last year's and much tougher to play against.  Watch the inetrviews and highlights of Doan and Kesselring,  Say what you will about the trade, but if they're on the ice when Tage gets concussed there is a fight

Isn't that almost the exact definition of Stockholm Syndrome?

It would certainly be, that’s a great catch. But here’s what you’ve missed: last I checked the sabres have improved year over year under Adams tenure

you can correct me on that if I am mistaken

Then our views totally coincide... because a blockbuster with a major player is probably a heavy lift... we need more than one player.. and more than one player is needed to turn this ship... consistent positive steps forward to improvement is the only way to establish credibility... you cannot fake time... nor consistency... getting Ekblad or Mariner doesnt magically rescue all that is wrong...  So, I mean if a deal is there big time to help do it... but your problems are not solved with one pen stroke... it took a long time to get into this mess its gonna take effort to get out.

This is why i don’t really agree with the Adams hot seat stuff. He’s probably been allotted a mere half the amount of time he needs to right this
