Why is Housley being in the HOF surprising? He has 1232 points as a defenseman which trails only Ray Borque, Paul Coffey and Al MacInnis for D-men all time.

How many games will the series against Laval be?

 Is this Rochester team built for the playoffs?  Lots of depth, lots of speed, some toughness?  I’ll throw in (dare I say it) good coaching?!

I used to think so, but I’m not so sure anymore. His big claim was having the most wins from any US born goalie, but that’s gone now. He’ll be 3rd soon enough. Is the one Vezina enough?

It's NOT surprising.  It's just sad.

Because he scored a LOT of those points as a F.  And voters for that honor pay as much attention to details like that as season ending AS team voters paid attention to which side of the ice Ovechkin played on back in '13 when he was voted the 1st team RW and the 2nd team LW.

Of course Housley's scoring stats don't include ANY of the assists he had on Stephane Richer's goals (he had a TON of those).  So, maybe you're onto something there.  If you take off the points he scored playing up front and replaced them with the assists he had for the Sabres (and other teams' as well, he had a LOT of stops along the way) opponents then he's maybe top 2 or 3 in defenseman scoring and not just top 4.

Though they shouldn't include it as a criterion in voting, they'll include his Olympic play, particularly in '10, in the voting.  It'll take a while, but personally do expect Miller will get there eventually.

The next round will be best-of-five, which I think unfortunately if it’s against Laval will be a loss. They’re a tough team to beat.

The first round series are best-of-three, the division semifinals and division finals are best-of-five, and the conference finals and Calder Cup Finals will be best-of-seven.

Another goalie dump 30-some years down the road like they had a couple years back with Barrasso and Vernon I guess. They had cups though, which unfortunately we all know they put a lot of weight on. 
 

Lundqvist did get in that year too without a cup. He had a much better career though. I guess Miller will have to hope that a bunch of new stud goalies show up in the near future.

The way Laval is playing against Cleveland they'll be done Sunday and the Amerks series will likely start next weekend. My question is will it be 2 in Laval, 2 in Rochester and 1 in Laval, or 2 in Rochester and 3 in Laval?

No data.  Expecting it'd be the normal 2-2-1.

According to the Rocket, they went 2-3 this round to cut down on travel (well, duh).  Only going to Ra-cha-cha shaves 4 hours off the trip from Laval to Cleveland.

From a stat line standpoint there is no surprise, nor argument...  I think Sabres fans have disdain for him because he despite all of his points and scoring actually was part of the problem for the lack of success in his Sabres stint...  from what we hear from some of the players of that era mostly Rob Ray but others as well... he was an arrogant self absorbed me guy that was divisive, he played like a me guy... he was gutless (hearing him tell the team that he was coaching that they needed to get to the tough areas of the ice... ) that's like Niagara Falls preaching to Lake Erie to stop being wet...  literally stepping out of the way of Stephone Richer in the final game of the playoffs (at least for us) in overtime to give him a clear shooting lane to me exemplified his entire career...  His abject cowardice in the Red Wings Sabres Brawl when Maguire ran Stefon... you see these Red Wings jump Maguire and 3 other Sabres jump in...  one lagged back Housely... then at the other end of the ice when Probert was free and Maguire was down he had a chance to get in the way of Probert who was going to cheap shot his teammate... Probert wagged his finger at him.. Housely turned around and looked away... and Maguire got tagged when he was on the ice....  THAT is the Phyllis Housely I remember... as do many Sabres fans who watched him play...  He literally made me sick watching him play...  I remember Maguire calling him out after that game... I believe he was traded not long after that... Sorry for the longwinded thing... but the Housely paradox is an interesting one... His talent and production offensively should have been regarded in the same breath as Perrault and Martin and Gare and LaFontaine...  yes he is so widely disparaged by those who watched him every game... Hall of fame numbers... absolutely, Hall of Fame player... hate it...
